Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ is No. 1 on Australian Charts for Fourth Successive Year

Make that four years in a row for Mariah Carey

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer and Queen of Christmas, is kicking off the New Year with some exciting news.

Mariah Carey

Carey’s iconic holiday single “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has risen to No. 1 on the Australian singles chart for the fourth successive year.

It’s an unprecedented fourth successive No. 1 for Carey’s Christmas classic, originally released back in 1994.

Unsurprisingly, the latest ARIA chart is swamped with festival songs, including Wham’s “Last Christmas” (up 9-2), Michael Bublé’s “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” (10-3), Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” (12-5), Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” (17-8), and Ed Sheeran Elton John’s “Merry Christmas” (16-10).

According to ARIA, a string of holiday season numbers enter the ARIA Top 50 for the very first time: Chris Rea’s “Driving Home For Christmas” (No. 26), Shakin’ Stevens’ “Merry Christmas Everyone” (No. 27), Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” (No. 28), Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” (No. 38), Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” (No. 42), Kylie Minogue’s “Santa Baby” (No. 44) and Michael Bublé’s “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” (No. 48).

Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” Becomes First Song to lead Billboard Hot 100 in Four Distinct Years

It’s Lucky No. 7 for Mariah Carey

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.

Mariah Carey

The insta-classic Christmas song, released in 1994, adds its seventh total week on top, after notching three weeks at No. 1 beginning in December 2019 and two more starting in December 2020, before it returned to the summit a week ago.

Notably, with this week’s Hot 100 dated Jan. 1, 2022, Carey’s “Christmas” is the first song to lead Hot 100 charts dated in four distinct years (2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022).

Carey’s “Christmas,” on Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings, drew 47.5 million U.S. streams (up 26%) and 32 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 25%, good for top Airplay Gainer honors on the Hot 100) and sold 8,100 downloads (up 9%) in the Dec. 17-23 tracking week, according to MRC Data.

The song claims a 14th total week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart and rises 7-6 on Digital Song Sales and 23-13 on Radio Songs. It also leads the multi-metric Holiday 100 chart for a 50th week, of the chart’s 55 total weeks since the list launched in 2011; it has topped the tally for 35 consecutive weeks, dating to the start of the 2015-16 holiday season, and dominates as the top title on the recently-revealed Greatest of All Time Holiday 100 Songs chart.

The song was first released on Carey’s album Merry Christmas in 1994 and has increased its Hot 100 fortunes in recent years as streaming has grown and holiday music has become more prominent on streaming services’ seasonal playlists.

As it spends its 50th week on the Hot 100, Carey’s “Christmas” is the first song to lead in as late as its 50th frame on the survey. A week earlier, when it reigned in its 49th week, it passed Los Del Rio’s “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix),” which led through its 46th week on the chart in November 1996. (The latter also logged multiple runs on the Hot 100, first running up 20 weeks in September 1995-January 1996 before it resurged and returned in May 1996 and lasted on the list through February 1997.)

With “Christmas,” Carey claims her record-extending 86th week at No. 1 on the Hot 100, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception.

Camila Cabello Performs Mariachi-fied Version of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” at White House

Camila Cabello is bringing a little sabor to the White House this holiday season…

The 24-year-old half-Mexican Cuban-born singer joined a star-studded list of performers for PBSIn Performance at The White House: Spirit of the Season on Tuesday — and brought along a full mariachi group for her rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”

Camila CabelloJulia Garner and Jill Biden introduced for her performance from the Grand Foyer as Cabello rocked an all-red jumpsuit and matching gloves.

“Such an incredible honor to perform again at the white house,” Cabello tweeted with a clip for her performance of the Bing Crosby 1943 classic. “Wishing you all a wonderful holiday with your loved ones.”

Among the other performers were Eric Church, Jonas Brothers, Pentatonix, Billy Porter, along with Andrea Bocelli and his children Matteo and Virginia.

This isn’t the first time Cabello has visited the White House. During her time in Fifth Harmony, the group performed “All I Want for Christmas” for Barack Obama‘s National Tree Lighting in 2016, and also sang “Happy Birthday” to Michelle Obama‘s Let’s Move campaign during the White House Easter Egg Roll in 2015.

Cabello previously performed the song (alongside a mariachi) during NBC‘s Michael Bublé’s Christmas in the City earlier this month.

“I wanted to pay tribute to my Mexican heritage with this Christmas cover of I’ll be home for Christmas,” she wrote on Instagram about the tribute. “Luis [Miguel] did it first and in Spanish, but I wanted to bring it to an audience that normally doesn’t get to hear the beauty of Mariachi music.”

In Spanish, she added: “Much love to Mexico and to the beautiful music of my country. Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy this cover that’s now available on Amazon Music.”

Cabello first introduced a mariachi to her music during Latinx Heritage Month for her NPR Tiny Desk performance, when she performed a track called “La Buena Vida.”

“I’m gonna sing a song called ‘La Buena Vida’ which is part of my upcoming album Familia and this is one of my favorite songs on the album so thanks for having me and I hope you guys enjoy it, let’s get it,” she said as she was joined by the band.

Earlier this month, during a conversation with Kid Cudi, Anderson .Paak and the Sparks Brothers for The Hollywood Reporter‘s Songwriter Roundtable, the Fifth Harmony alum opened up about how writing a song for her Cinderella film helped her with her mental health.

“I don’t think I know how to write in any way that isn’t personal to me,” she said. “When I was working on ‘Million to One‘ for Cinderella, to be totally honest, I was going through a really hard time with my mental health.”

“It was just a period of a lot of anxiety and sadness for me, and that song had me feeling like, ‘I can overcome this. I know that I can make my life better.’ I feel like I channeled my personal journey into the one of the character. The character was super confident — everybody was telling her no, but she knew,” Cabello added.

Adam Rodriguez Shares Trailer for His Upcoming CBS Holiday Film “A Christmas Proposal”

Adam Rodriguez has a proposal for you…

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican and Cuban American actor and Magic Mike star has shared the official trailer for his upcoming holiday film A Christmas Proposal. The CBS film premieres on Sunday, December 12 at 8:30 pm ET/8:00 pm PT and will be available on demand via Paramount+.

Adam RodriguezRodriguez— who executive produces and stars in the project—is proud to bring a holiday story featuring a Latino family to the small screen that focuses on the lives of the characters and steers clear of stereotypes.

“It was my goal from the beginning [that we’re represented in a non-stereotypical way],” Rodriguez tells Deadline.”The script was never written for a Latino family, to begin with. It was written, I’m sure, with a white family in mind. And CBS had the foresight to jump aboard and get a Latin cast in there. I was really happy to get to participate in that and help give it shape because we wanted this to be authentic. We wanted this to be about the people in it and not having to make those people characters that we’ve seen so many times before. It’s really time to see something fresh and I think we accomplished that.”

In the film, Rodriguez plays Julian Diaz, an attorney willing to do whatever it takes to win his father’s favor over his brother to ascend to the role of managing partner of the family firm upon their dad’s retirement.

When Julian meets Maria Winters (Jessica Camacho),—a chef who is hustling as a rideshare driver for extra income—he sees an opportunity to impress his parents. The pair go down this rabbit hole together but could it all be a huge recipe for disaster?

“Julian is a guy that has become obsessed with getting what he thinks is ahead like getting ahead at work, being the most important person there, and the best dressed. He’s so caught up in this competition with his brother, which really feels like it’s just a competition to see who gets the most attention from their parents. It’s sad. He’s in a place in his life where he’s missing out. He’s missing out on the things in life that are really important,” Rodriguez revealed.

He continued, “Julian doesn’t even think about slowing down until all of a sudden this person with a completely different outlook on life, forces him to do that. And the only reason she forces him to do it is that he needs her. Without that, he would have kept being the Julian he was—somebody that looks past people and is not really evaluating his life in any way.”

Rodriguez hopes A Christmas Proposal helps open up the floodgates for more Black and brown love stories in the future, especially in holiday-themed projects.

“I’ll be honest, in my head, I look at these things all on a big scale. We don’t see enough of [Black and brown love stories] and slowly but surely we’re seeing more of it. But especially in the Christmas genre, you never see it,” he shared. “I think just by putting it out there and hopefully having it be something that pops with people, they’ll be excited about the next one. Not even necessarily with these characters but where’s the next brown Christmas movie?”

Although he wasn’t specifically referring to a sequel for A Christmas Proposal, he clarifies he would be open to exploring Julian and Maria’s relationship further.

“Listen, I had a great time working with Jessica and would work with her again anytime. She’s a wonderful actress and a great person. I’m on board!” he exclaimed.

Fans voted in a poll published Friday (November 5) on Billboard, and chose the track as their favorite new music release of the past week.
