America Ferrera to Star in Sony & Black Bear Pictures’ Upcoming Dramedy “Dumb Money”

America Ferrera is makin’ money moves…

The 38-year-old Honduran American award-winning actress has joined the cast of Sony and Black Bear Pictures’ upcoming dramedy Dumb Money.

America FerreraFerrera is now part of an A-list ensemble cast that includes Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Shailene Woodley, Anthony Ramos, Vincent D’Onofrio, Dane DeHaan and Pete Davidson, with Craig Gillespie directing.

The film is based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network. It tells the story of fortunes won and lost overnight in the David-vs.-Goliath GameStop short squeeze that may have ended up changing Wall Street forever. It offers a gripping portrayal of how a loosely affiliated group of private investors and internet trolls on a subreddit called WallStreetBets took down one of the biggest hedge funds on Wall Street, firing the first shot in a revolution that threatened to upend the establishment.

The script was adapted by Rebecca Angelo & Lauren Schuker Blum.

Principal photography is underway.

Ferrera can be seen next year in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie alongside Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu and Kate McKinnon. She recently starred on the Apple TV+ series WeCrashed opposite Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.

She is making her feature directorial debut with an adaptation of Erika Sánchez’s New York Times bestselling novel  I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter for Netflix.

Los Angeles City Council Declares October 1 as “Bad Bunny Day”

Earlier this week, the Los Angeles City Council officially declared October 1 “Bad Bunny Day,” making it the second U.S. city—following Boston—to honor the artist with his very own day.

Bad Bunny,The resolution was introduced by City Councilman Kevin de León on Friday, just hours before Bad Bunny kicked off his two-night performance at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium.

“The City of L.A.’s population is 50 percent Latino, one of the largest Latino populations in the world outside Latin American countries,” de León told the media. “Bad Bunny’s cultural impact will have a tremendous and positive influence on future generations and will redefine Latino culture in Los Angeles and beyond for years to come.”

The councilman will present Bad Bunny with a certificate ahead of his Saturday show. The Grammy-winning artist is in the midst of his World’s Hottest Tour, which kicked off back in August.

Bad Bunny will kick off the trek’s Central American leg later this month.

The Puerto Rican-born singer released his fourth studio album, Un Verano Sin Ti, back in May. The project debuted at No. 1 and has since surpassed the Encanto soundtrack for the most weeks atop the Billboard 200 in 2022.

Un Verano Sin Ti delivered 23 tracks with guest appearances by Chencho Corleone, Jhay Cortez, Tony Dize, and more.

“Since forever I’ve made it clear to people that I’m never going to make a record that’s the same as another,” he told the New York Times about Verano Sin Ti. “… It’s a record to play in the summer, on the beach, as a playlist. The album is very Caribbean, in every sense: with its reggaeton, its mambo, with all those rhythms, and I like it that way.”

Kid Cudi Reveals Track List for Upcoming Album “Entergalactic”

The 38-year-old hal;f-Mexican American rapper, singer and songwriter has revealed the full track list for his upcoming album Entergalactic.

Kid Cudi “#Entergalactic SEPT 30TH HERE WE GO B–!!” Kid Cudi captioned the post, signaling the LP’s release date set for this Friday via Republic Records.

The 14-track project will serve as a follow-up to Kid Cudi’s 2020 studio set Man on the Moon III: The Chosen and contains the singles “Do What I Want” and “Willing to Trust” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

According to the track list, Entergalatic will also feature another Ty Dolla $ign collab (“Can’t Shake Her”) as well as the 2 Chainz-assisted “Can’t Believe It” and “Somewhere to Fly” featuring Don Toliver.

Bonus track “Burrow,” meanwhile, will feature Toliver, Steve Aoki and Dot Da Genius.

The album has been a long time coming, with Kid Cudi teasing its concept as far back as 2019, when he told Complex, “Entergalactic is a fantasy. It’s what I wish I had. I live a very lonely life, but I have hope I’ll find someone someday.”

Over the past couple of months, Cudi has opened up about his falling-out with onetime friend and mentor Kanye West, who blasted him (along with outgoing Adidas CEO Kasper Rørsted) in a fake New York Times headline posted to Instagram in early September.

And just last week, the rapper was blown away when Martin Scorsese heaped praise on Pearl, the blood-soaked horror flick starring Mia Goth that he co-produced through his Mad Solar production company.

Jacob Elordi to Star as Elvis in Sofia Coppola’s Film “Priscilla”

The 25-year-old half-Spanish-Australian actor will star as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s film Priscilla, about the King of Rock and Roll and his wife.

Jacob Elordi, Calvin KleinCoppola will direct the feature filmwhich is based on the memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Beaulieu Presley.

Cailee Spaeny will portray Priscilla Presley opposite Elordi as Elvis.

Published in 1985, Presley’s intimate account of her life with Elvis became a New York Times Bestseller and an international sensation. Coppola adapted the script as well.

Coppola had reportedly been eyeing this film for some time as her follow-up to On The Rocks and began putting the pieces together to the film off the ground by this fall. While she met with a number of actors for the Elvis role with Elordi ultimately landing the highly coveted role, Spaeny has been her top choice from Day 1 for the role of Priscilla.

The film will shoot in Toronto in the Fall.

Elordi is best known for his roles as Noah Flynn in Netflix‘s The Kissing Booth teen film franchise and Nate Jacobs in the HBO series Euphoria.

Tom Segura to Host Two New Netflix Stand-Up Specials

The 43-year-old half-Peruvian American comedian will host two new stand-up special for Netflix viewers.

Tom SeguraSegura, a New York Times bestselling author, podcast host and actor, will host his fifth and sixth comedy specials for the streamer, with the first slated to premiere in 2023.

Segura, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, is well known for his Netflix specials Ball HogDisgracefulCompletely Normal, and Mostly Stories.

He has also made feature film appearances that include Instant FamilyCountdownFlinch, and The Opening Act, among others.

Segura is one of the top-selling touring acts in the world, having sold hundreds of thousands of tickets on multiple international tours.

BCDF Pictures has acquired film rights to the Spanish author’s 2022 New York Times bestseller The Spanish Love Deception, with Peter Hutchings set to adapt the novel for the big screen.

The romantic comedy from Simon & Schuster is the first installment in a series of the same name.

It tells the story of Catalina Martín, who desperately needs a date to her sister’s wedding in Spain. Especially since she lied and told her large, raucous family that she has a new American boyfriend. Now everyone expects her to bring him, including the ex who drove Catalina to leave Spain in the first place. Enter Aaron Blackford – her tall, handsome, insufferably condescending colleague – who surprisingly offers to step in.

Esai Morales to Star in Sci-Fi Thriller “Persephone”

The 59-year-old Puerto Rican actor will star opposite Ming-Na Wen and Brianna Hildebrand in the long-gestating sci-fi thriller Persephone, hailing from director Jeffrey Morris.

Their destination is Proxima b—a planet orbiting the nearest star. When a crew is dispatched to repair a shield designed to protect their colony from deadly solar flares, a computer malfunction causes them to crash-land on the alien planet. The crew then discover that they may not be the only life on this hostile world. A mystery unfolds that may not only derail their mission, but also prevent the colonists from ever setting foot on the planet.

Morris penned the script, also co-authoring a companion novel with New York Times bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson.

He will also produce via his FutureDude Entertainment, alongside Anne Marie Gillen, Jorge Heredia and the duo of Jane Fleming and Mark Ordesky.

Cassian Elwes will executive produce, with Anderson serving as co-executive producer, and Jasmin Espada as co-producer.

Highland Film Group is handling international rights, and will launch sales at the upcoming Cannes Marché du Film.

The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on Peter Sutherland (Basso), a low-level FBI agent  who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.

Murciano plays Ben Almora, the measured, steady hand who guides the Secret Service in the White House.

Seth Gordon is set to direct the first two episodes of the series, which hails from Sony Pictures Television Studios, where Ryan and Gordon are under overall deals. Ryan will serve as showrunner of the 10-episode series, which he’ll executive produce via his MiddKid Productions. Gordon will executive produce through his Exhibit A banner.

The award-winning Latina screenwriter/producer and Gentefied co-creator has signed a multi-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television.

Both seasons are currently available to stream via Netflix.

Erick Galindo is punching a ticket to California’s Mexican Beverly Hills…

The Latino award-winning writer, producer and journalist is developing the family comedy Mexican Beverly Hills for CBS alongside Aaron Izek and Wilmer Valderrama.

The single-camera project is inspired by Galindo’s New York Times essay of the same name.

Mexican Beverly Hills tells the story of a working-class Mexican-American family that moves to the wealthy, heavily Latinx city of Downey—also known as the Mexican Beverly Hills—where they both fit in and stand out in ways they never have before.

Galindo and Izek will write and executive produce; Valderrama and Kaitlin Saltzman will also executive produce under Valderrama’s WV Entertainment banner.

Galindo is a five-time Telly Award-winning writer, director, and producer known for his personal essays. He regularly writes about culture for LAist, NPR station KPCC, and The New York Times, and was the first managing editor of L.A. Taco, where his work won a James Beard Foundation award.

His co-written pilot Hot in Carson was a finalist for the Black List’s inaugural Latinx TV List, and his dark comedy script Legends was selected for the 2020 NHMC Latinx Screenwriters Showcase. He just launched Sin Miedo Productions with Patty Rodriguez.
