Rosie Perez to Take Part in “Stars in the House” Telethon to Benefit Victims of the War in Ukraine

Rosie Perez is helping raise money for the people of the Ukraine

The 57-year-old Puerto Rican Oscar-nominated actress is among an all-star roster of film, television and theater performers who’ve signed up for a 10-hour telethon to raise money for the victims of the war in Ukraine.

In addition to Perez, the other celebrities scheduled to appear on the telethon include Steve Martin, Annette BeningBilly PorterAudra McDonald, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Chenoweth, David Hyde Pierce, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin, as well as Tituss Burgess, Kelli O’Hara, Donna Murphy, Annaleigh Ashford, Jessie Mueller, Josh Groban, Judith Light, John Stamos, Lindsay Mendez, Laura Benanti, Norman Lear, Betty Buckley, Mandy Patinkin, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Wilson, Shoshana Bean, James Monroe Iglehart, Brittney Johnson, Santino Fontana, Judy Kuhn and Norbert Leo Butz.

The event also hopes to feature Ukrainians, including Oleg Karpenko, a Ukrainian theater and film actor who co-starred with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Servant of the People.

The special can be viewed and listened to on the series’ site, the Stars in the House YouTube channel, as well as SiriusXM Stars109.

Donations made during the event will benefit the International Rescue Committee and its humanitarian efforts for those affected by the war in Ukraine.

Stars in the House is a live-streamed concert series created by SiriusXM Broadway host Seth Rudetsky and producer James Wesley that has raised over $1 million for the Actors Fund’s COVID-19 relief program and other nonprofits.

It’s just one way the theater community has tried to help Ukrainians: Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS awarded $300,000 in emergency grants to ameliorate the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and a portion of ticket sales for “The Minutes” will go to Save the Children’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund.

The 39-year-old part-Spanish America actor will perform at Show of Titles, a special livestreamed musical event next month benefiting The Actors Fund.

Fontana joins a lineup of nearly 30 stars – from Glenn ClosePatti LuPone, Darren Criss, Kelsey Grammar and David Alan Grier to Jake Gyllenhaal, Joshua Henry and Phillipa Soo – who will perform title songs from more than 20 musicals.

The event will feature title songs of Broadway musicals spanning nine decades, from “Lady Be Good” to “The Light in the Piazza.”

The line-up also includes Annaleigh Ashford, Len Cariou, Isabelle Huppert, Norm Lewis, Rob McClure, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Melba Moore, Jessie Mueller, Eva Noblezada, Kelli O’Hara, Laura Osnes, Steven Pasquale, Michael Rupert, Ernie Sabella, Lea Salonga, Will Swenson, Aaron Tveit, Leslie Uggams, Vanessa Williams and Patrick Wilson.

Making special appearances will be Broadway Inspirational Voices, Candice Bergen, Danny Burstein, Bryan Cranston, Sheldon Harnick, John Kander, Angela Lansbury, John Lithgow, Lindsay Mendez, Phylicia Rashad, Ben Vereen, BD Wong and Florian Zeller.

Conceived by Broadway’s Best Shows producer Jeffrey RichardsShow of Titles will be directed by Lonny Price, with music direction by Jason Howland, and livestreamed on June 8, 8:00 pm ET on Stellar for a limited time only.

Tickets went on sale May 17 for $29 ($39 starting May 21), with all sales donated to The Actor’s Fund.

Michael Peña to Star in Roland Emmerich’s Sci-Fi Epic “Moonfall”

The 45-year-old Mexican American actor has been cast in the Roland Emmerich-helmed sci-fi epic Moonfall.

Peña joins an A-list ensemble cast that includes Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Eme Ikwuakor, Charlie Plummer and Donald Sutherland.

The space drama takes off with a mysterious force that knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface and save our planet from annihilation.

Peña is taking over the role previously held by Stanley Tucci, who had to exit the project due to government-imposed travel restrictions banning UK flights into Canada.

Peña will play Tom Lopez, a wealthy car dealer who is married to Brian Harper’s (Wilson) ex-wife, the loving and fierce Brenda, played by Carolina Bartczak.

Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen penned the screenplay.

Centropolis is overseeing all aspects of production, financing, delivery, and distribution and marketing in collaboration with Lionsgate, AGC Studios, and other distribution partners. Lionsgate is distributing the film in North America.

Moonfall is set to hit theaters in 2022.

Peña will soon be seen starring in the Warner Bros. live-action/animation hybrid Tom & Jerry, slated to debut on HBO Max and in theaters on February 26.

Leguizamo to Star in Atlas Independent’s Feature “The Man on Carrion Road”

John Leguizamo is about to cause a little trouble on the border…

The 49-year-old Colombian American actor/comedian has joined Lynn Collins and Jim Belushi for Atlas Independent‘s latest feature project The Man on Carrion Road.

The film, directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, will star Patrick Wilson and Ian McShane.

From a screenplay written by Nils Lyew, the story chronicles a botched Mexican cartel deal in the back roads of a border town.

The town’s new sheriff (Wilson) must team up with the retired lawman (McShane) he replaced to investigate the source of the deal in order to stop a mysterious cartel butcher (Leguizamo) and his systematic brutalization of the town’s residents.

Production is scheduled to begin April 14.

Leguizamo most recently performed his one-man show on the HBO special John Leguizamo‘s Ghetto Klown.

He’ll also star alongside Uma Thurman, Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart in the upcoming action-comedy film American Ultra, directed by Nima Nourizadeh.

Alba In Talks to Star in the Horror Film “The Veil”

The veil is falling on Jessica Alba’s next project…

The 32-year-old half-Mexican American actress is in talks to star opposite Thomas Jane in The Veil, the latest microbudget horror film from Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse Productions.

The Veil centers on members of a religious cult known as Heaven’s Veil who take their own lives. The truth behind what really happened remains buried deep in the memory of the sole survivor, a five-year-old girl, who returns to the compound with a documentary crew as an adult. They soon discover something that is far more terrifying than anything they could have imagined.

Alba will play the documentary filmmaker who accompanies the survivor back to the compound to investigate what really happened.

Phil Joanou is set to direct the film, from a scriot by Robert Ben Garant, with filming expected to start in April.

Alba previously worked with Blum on Stretch, a thriller starring Patrick Wilson and Ed Helms.

She recently completed the action comedy Barely Lethal for Kyle Newman and has Sin City: A Dame to Kill For in the can.

Her previous horror films include The Killer Inside Me and The Eye.

 

Alba to Star in the Action-Comedy Film “Stretch”

Jessica Alba is stretching herself for her next role…

The 32-year-old half-Mexican American actress has joined the cast of Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions’ action-comedy Stretch.

Alba’s co-stars in the film include Patrick Wilson, Ed Helms, Chris Pine and Brooklyn Decker.

Directed by The Grey’s Joe Carnahan, Stretch follows a limo driver (portrayed by Wilson) on his last shift who picks up a billionaire (Pine) whose freaky special requests get darker as the night rolls on.

The March 21, 2014 release is being produced by Jason Blum as part of his first-look deal with Universal.

Alba recently wrapped work on Film Arcade’s A.C.O.D. and appears in IFC’s Will Ferrell fronted spoof The Spoils Of Babylon. She returns to Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City franchise next summer in Dimension’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Brewster to Star in the Dark Comedy “North of Hell”

The 33-year-old half-Brazilian American actress and Fast & Furious 6 star has been added to the cast of the dark comedy North of Hell.

The indie film, which stars Patrick Wilson and Katherine Heigl, centers on a successful businessman and the sociopathic, bi-polar, obsessive-compulsive wife who controls everything in his life.

Brewster, who stars on TNT’s Dallas, will portray a sexy hire at Wilson’s character’s work who seduces and blackmails him, threatening to go to his wife with their affair.

North of Hell is slated to begin production this month in New Orleans.

Anthony Burns, who wrote the script, will direct the film.

Milian to Guest Star on CBS’s A Gifted Man

She’ll soon be appearing as a correspondent on NBC’s The Voice… But  Christina Milian will also get a chance to go all diva on another television program.

The 30-year-old Cuban-American singer and actress will guest star in an upcoming episode of CBS’s A Gifted Man.

Milian, who last appeared as a guest star on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, will get to tap into her own musical experience by playing a thriving pop star who experiences strange symptoms, according to TalkTVWorld.com.

“We’re thrilled that Christina will be bringing her acting and singing talents to A Gifted Man,” stated the show’s executive producer Neal Baer. “She’ll play a spoiled pop star who complains of a mysterious ailment zapping all her energy that even Dr. Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson) finds puzzling.”
