Felix Solis to Appear in the New York Dramedy “The Friend”

Felix Solis is making a new friend

The 52-year-old Puerto Rican actor, director and producer has landed a supporting role in The Friend, the New York dramedy starring Naomi Watts and Bill Murray.

The project is an adaptation of Sigrid Nunez’s New York Times bestseller.

Winner of the 2018 National Book Award for Fiction, The Friend follows a New York writer in the aftermath of her lifelong friend and mentor’s unexpected death. Thereafter, she’s left to deal with his complicated literary legacy, three eccentric ex-wives — and a massive, brokenhearted Great Dane named Apollo.

Scott McGehee and David Siegel are directing from their own script, also producing through their new company Big Creek Projects, with Sarah Pidgeon, Constance Wu, Ann Dowd and Noma Dumezweni rounding out the cast.

Best known for his role as the terrifying cartel boss Omar Navarro on Netflix’s Ozark, Solis has more recently been seen playing the FBI’s Matthew Garza on The Rookie and The Rookie: Feds.

Previously, he’s appeared on shows like City on FireCharmed and The Good Wife, among others. Film credits include Netflix’s Tallulah and the Richard Gere drama Arbitrage.

Javier Bardem to Receive Maltin Modern Master Award at This Year’s Santa Barbara Film Festival

The 52-year-old Spanish Oscar-winning actor will be honored with the prestigious Maltin Modern Master Award at the 37th annual edition of the Santa Barbara Film Festival.

Javier BardemBardem will be feted alongside his Being the Ricardos co-star Nicole Kidman on Thursday, March 10 when they’ll engage with veteran film historian and critic Leonard Maltin for an in-person conversation about their careers leading up to this year’s performances as Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin’s acclaimed film from Amazon Studios.

Bardem and Kidman recently received individual SAG Award nominations in the lead actor and actress categories.

Bardem and Kidman, who have never before worked together, previously won Oscars for No Country for Old Men (2007) and The Hours (2002), respectively. Each has a long career of acclaimed performances.

“Nicole Kidman continues to challenge and reinvent herself year after year. Javier Bardem’s talent is a gift to the world. Only in Hollywood could these actors find themselves playing America’s all time favorite TV couple. It’s cause for celebration,” Maltin said.

Santa Barbara International Film Festival

The Modern Master Award was established in 1995 and is the highest accolade presented by SBIFF. Created to honor an individual who has enriched our culture through accomplishments in the motion picture industry, it was re-named the Maltin Modern Master Award in 2015 in honor of longtime SBIFF moderator and renowned film critic Leonard Maltin.

Past recipients include Bill Murray, Brad Pitt, Glenn Close, Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton, Bruce Dern, Ben Affleck, Christopher Plummer, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Clint Eastwood, Cate Blanchett, Will Smith, George Clooney and Peter Jackson.

This is the first time a pair of actors will be honored together.

The 37th Santa Barbara Film Festival is set to take place in-person March 2-12. Official events including screenings, filmmaker Q&As, industry panels and celebrity tributes will be held throughout the city including at the historic Arlington Theatre.

Jarmusch writes and directs the film his third with Focus Features. The studio previously released the filmmaker’s highest-grossing pic in his canon, 2005’s Broken Flowers starring Bill Murray which made $13.7M.

It appears the force has awakened Oscar Isaac

The 36-year-old Guatemalan and Cuban American actor, currently starring as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, recently covered Bill Murray’s Star Wars theme parody from the iconic Saturday Night Live lounge singer sketch.

Isaac, who earned a Golden Globe nod for his role in the comedy-drama Inside Llewyn Davis, is a talented musician. The Juilliard School graduate starred in the film10 Years, in which he played a musician. He performed his own song “Never Had” in the film.

Currently covering January’s GQ, Isaac discussed his widely varied roles over the years and even combined a few of their influences in the awesome guitar solo.

Season Two of Consuelos’ “Alpha House” Debuting on Amazon in Late October

Mark Consuelos is an Alpha male once again…

Amazon Studios will be releasing all 10 episodes of the second season of the 43-year-old half-Mexican actor’s political comedy Alpha House on Friday, October 24 on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the U.S., UK and Germany.

From Garry Trudeau, the series follows a group of Republican senators who live under one roof. Along with Consuelos, who stars as Andy Guzman, Marco Rubio-like U.S. Senator from Florida, Alpha House also stars John Goodman, Clark Johnson and Matt Malloy.

The second season finds the show’s protaganists at the precipice of a midterm election with one of them, Senator Guzman (Consuelos) prepping a 2016 bid for the presidency — a choice that puts Guzman in competition with one of his roommates.

Season two boasts a number of prolific guest stars including Bill Murray, Penn Jillette, Matt Lauer, Rachel Maddow, Jane Pauley, George Stephanopoulos as well as a number of returning guests including Wanda Sykes, Amy Sedaris and Haley Joel Osmet.

Leyva Promoted to Series Regular on Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black”

Forget red! Selenis Leyva is seeing orange

The 41-year-old Cuban-Dominican American actress has been promoted to series regular on Netflix’s hit prison comedy Orange Is The New Black, which was recently picked up for a third season well-before its second-season premiere.

Leyva plays the quick-witted and sharp-tongued Gloria Mendoza in the series, which also stars Taylor Schilling, Jason Biggs, Laura Prepon and Kate Mulgrew.

“Gloria is sassy, there’s a fierceness about her and you know that eyebrow, when it goes up, you know she means business,” Leyva told Huffington Post in an interview. “And that’s like my thing [laughs]. When I’m a little bit upset, my eyebrow goes up and that is a trait that my beautiful mother passed down to me [laughs]. We always knew in the house ‘mommy’s upset, her eyebrow just went up.’”

Selenis, who has appeared on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Girls, will next be seen opposite Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy and Naomi Watts in the feature film Saint Vincent de Van Nuys.

Season 2 of Orange Is The New Black premieres on Netflix on June 6 with all 13 episodes available at launch.

First Trailer Released for Sheen’s “Charles Swan III” Film

Call it Charlie Sheen’s Swan song…

The first trailer for the 47-year-old part-Spanish actor’s latest film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III has been released.

The clip is chock full of entertaining moments as the title character (played by Sheen) tumbles into his imaginary world after a recent breakup with his gorgeous girlfriend.

He and his loyal friends, Kirby and Saul, are seen dressing as cowboys on a Western set where a girl hits him with an arrow. In another scene, he gets entangled in what seems to be an espionage world and almost gets exploded.

The film features Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Patricia Arquette and Aubrey Plaza and begs the question: Is it possible to love and hate someone at the same time?

The Roman Coppola-directed dramedy opens in theaters nationwide February 8, 2013.
