Jennifer Lopez’s Music Sees Significant Sales Gain Following Her Performance at the MTV Video Music Awards

Jennifer Lopez is making dinero after the MTV VMAs

The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards yielded significant sales gains for the songs performed on the August 20 broadcast, according to Nielsen Music, including the music of the 49-year-old Puerto Rican superstar.

Jennifer Lopez

In the week ending August 23, the collected tunes performed on the show — excluding recently released tracks — earned a 41 percent sales gain in download sales in the U.S., rising to 112,000 sold (up from 79,000 in the frame ending Aug. 16).

JLo was a big winner, courtesy of her 10-minute medley of hits. The recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award (as well as Best Collaboration for “Dinero,” featuring DJ Khaled and Cardi B) treated the audience to a lavish 12-song performance. The dozen tunes collectively earned a 150 percent sales increase (rising to 13,000 sold – up from 5,000).

Some of the new and developing acts that MTV showcased during the broadcast in shorter performances (as part of their Push Artist to Watch performance slots) also cashed in. Jessie Reyez’s “Apple Juice” scored a 753 percent sales gain, climbing to a little more than a 1,000 sold (up from a negligible figure), Hayley Kiyoko’s “Curious” jumped 181 percent (to a little less than 1,000) and Bazzi’s “Beautiful” bounced up 27 percent (to 5,000).

Jessie Reyez Releases “Body Count” Remix, Featuring Normani and Kehlani

Jessie Reyez is upping her Body Count

The 27-year-old Colombian singerhas unveiled a star-studded remix of “Body Count” featuring Normani and Kehlani.

Jessie Reyez

The strummy sing-along to self-love finds Reyez among the company of women in no need of the companionship of a mediocre man. Normani flexes a silky double-time flow as she demands “some f-cking respect” and Kehlani — who continues her months-long winning streak of featured verses — sings about finding her self-love in the company of another woman.

Produced by legendary R&B hitmaker Babyface and the Rascals, the remix will feature on her sophomore EP Being Human In Public, which has already spawned “Apple Juice” and “Sola.”

Earlier this month, Reyez gave a debut performance at the MTV VMAs and made a cameo on the Calvin HarrisSam Smith jam “Promises.”

Reyez will be a fixture at music festivals nationwide during the summer, including this weekend’s Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn and Jay-Z‘s Made in America Festival over Labor Day weekend.

Being Human in Public is due out sometime this fall on FMLY/Island.

Kehlani to Appear on Calvin Harris’ New LP, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1

Kehlani is ready to funk things up with Calvin Harris

The 22-year-old part-Spanish American singer is set to appear on the Scottish DJ and record producer’s forthcoming album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.

Kehlani

Harris released a video teaser via Twitter for the album with Kehlani’ name appearing as one of the featured artists on his LP.

Others include Frank Ocean, Travis Scott, Future, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Big Sean, John Legend, Khalid, Migos, Schoolboy Q, Ariana Grande, Yung Thug, D.R.A.M., Nicki Minaj, Lil Yachty, Jessie Reyez, Partynextdoor, and Snoop Dogg.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 gives the sense of a departure from the usual Harris sound, a hint amplified by the much groovier, toned-down disco funk vibe of the soundtrack tune. The sunset visual background fits perfectly with the song’s laidback style. The clip also features vocals from Khalid and Future.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 is scheduled for release Friday, June 30.
