Jesse Garcia to Star Opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Action Film “The Mother”

The 38-year-old Latino actors has joined the cast of The Mother, the action film, emerging from a newly announced creative partnership between Netflix and Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions.

Garcia will star opposite Lopez, Joseph FiennesOmari Hardwick, Gael García Bernal, Paul Raci, Yvonne Senat Jones and Lucy Paez in the film, which will be directed by Niki Caro.

The Mother centers on a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.

Lovecraft Country creator Misha Green penned the original screenplay, with Peter Craig handling the most recent revisions.

Lopez and Elaine Goldsmith Thomas are producing for Nuyorican Productions with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon for Vertigo, along with Green, Benny Medina, and Marc Evans. Molly Allen is executive producing.

Garcia can currently seen in Ted Melfi’s Netflix film The Starling, starring Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd. He’ll next appear in Michael Bay’s action thriller Ambulance, and star alongside Annie Gonzales in Flamin’ Hot, the film about Flamin’ Hot Cheetos creator Richard Montanez that Eva Longoria is helming for Searchlight Pictures, in her feature debut.

The actor has starred on the TV side in From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, finding recurring roles in Narcos: Mexico and Snowfall. He has also appeared in shows including The Last ShipSons of Anarchy and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, along with films including Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and The Avengers.

Manuel Uriza to Appear on Netflix’s Dramedy “Gentefied”

The Latino actor has landed a recurring role on Netflix’s dramedy Gentefied.

Uriza joins a list of new recurring cast additions that includes Clarissa Thibeaux, Ivana Rojas and Melinna Bobadilla.

The series hails from Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez, the duo behind the Sundance Film Festival darling Gente-fied: The Digital Series, and Macro.

Created by Chicano first-gen writers Lemus and Chávez, Gentefied is a half-hour dramatic comedy adapted from the 2017 Sundance digital series of the same name. Described as a badass bilingual series about family, community, brown love, and the displacement that disrupts it all, Gentefied follows three Mexican-American cousins who struggle to chase the American Dream, even while that same dream threatens the things they hold most dear: their neighborhood, their immigrant grandfather, and the family taco shop. Set in a rapidly changing Los Angeles, the dramedy navigates important themes like identity, class, and balancing insta-fame with translating memes for their parents.

Uriza will play Ernesto Morales, Pop’s estranged, oldest son. By any measure, the personification of the American Dream, Pop has never forgiven him for moving his family from East LA to the calmer suburbs of Boise, Idaho. Unlike the rest of the family, Ernesto is the only one who can stand up to Pop, as their relationship reaches a boiling point.

Rojas will portray Sarai Damian. An up-and coming Chef, Sarai is career-focused, hella ambitious, and a truth-teller. She knows what she wants and she isn’t willing to compromise her dream for anyone. We meet her as she is about to be catapulted into her biggest career high, but it comes with a big price to pay.

Bobadilla will play Melinna Barragan, a fierce non-profit lawyer, she’s down for her community, even if it means working pro-bono. If your prima with the big hoops who always got into fights got her law degree at ELAC – that would be Melinna. Passionate and fierce, she treats her clients like family.

Uriza’s credits include Magnum P.I., Hawaii Five-O, Rambo: Last Blood, The Last Ship and Snowfall.

Diana Maria Riva to Star in HBO Max’s Family Comedy Pilot “The Gordita Chronicles”

The 51-year-old Dominican American actress has joined the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming family comedy pilot The Gordita Chronicles, from Josh Berman’s Osprey Productions, Zoe Saldana’s Cinestar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television.

Riva, who recently started in NBC’s short-lived comedy Sunnyside, joins a roster of new cast additions that includes Juan Javier Cardenas, Savannah Nicole Ruiz, Noah Rico and Cosette Hauer.

They join newcomer Olivia Goncalveswho will lead the comedy written by Claudia Forestieri and directed by Eva Longoria.

The Gordita Chronicles centers on Carlota “Cucu” Castelli (Goncalves), a willful 12-year-old Dominican immigrant with a heart of gold. Cucu leaves her home and her parochial school in Santo Domingo to live in Miami and pursue the American Dream during the hedonistic 1980s after her father, a marketing executive with a large airline, gets transferred there. Cucu meets head-on the challenges of being an immigrant in a strange new world with humor, bravado and some really bad choices.

Riva will appear as Adela, Cucu’s mom. The actress appeared as Detective Ana Perez in Netflix’Dead to Me. Her additional roles include Man with a PlanKajillionaire, and McFarland, USA.

Cardenas takes on Victor Castelli, Cucu’s dad. He played Dante in The Walking Dead and Ben in S.W.A.T. His credits also include Snowfall, Damnation, Scandal and Lusa.

Ruiz will appear as Emilia, Cucu’s older sister. High School Musical: The Musical actor Noah Rico joins the cast as Yosmel “Yoshy” Hernandez, a Cuban refugee and Cucu’s first friend in Miami.

Lastly, Hauer joins as Ashley, a needy go-getter desperate to fit in, but nevertheless always sticks out.

FX Renews Sergio Peris-Mencheta’s “Snowfall” for Fifth Season

FX has given Snowfall, starring the 45-year-old Spanish actor, an early renewal for a fifth season, just three episodes into Season 4.

The crime drama from the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron is seeing ratings spurt in its fourth season to date, up 41% over the same period in Season 3 and averaging 5.1 million total viewers across all platforms.

Snowfall, which airs Wednesdays at 10:00 pm, takes place in the 1980s in South Central Los Angeles. The demand for crack cocaine is high, and while our crew of dealers led by Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) are benefitting greatly from the rising tide of addiction, they are also starting to become aware of the damage the drug is doing to the people and the place they love.

With the entire nation taking note, the LAPD is diverting serious money and resources to the “war on drugs.” Politicians’ phones are ringing. Powerful people are concerned from the hallways of the White House to those of CIA headquarters, where there are whispers that one of their own may be involved in this burgeoning epidemic.

In addition to Peris-Menchata and Idris, the series also stars Carter Hudson, Isaiah John, Amin Joseph and Angela Lewis also star. The Season 4 finale will air on April 21.

Robby Ramos to Appear on Starz’s Wrestling Drama Series “Heels”

The Latino actor has landed a recurring role opposite Stephen Amell, Alexander Ludwig and Mary McCormack in HeelsStarz’s eight-episode hour-long drama set in the outrageous world of independent professional wrestling.

Written by Michael Waldron, with Mike O’Malley as showrunner, Heels is a story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals, Jack Spade (Amell) and Ace Spade (Ludwig), war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy (Ludwig) and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel (Amell). But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.

Ramos will portray Diego, a wrestler at the DWL. In the ring, Diego wrestles as a Heel, but in the locker room, he’s a wisecracking and always encouraging colleague and friend.

Heels is produced by Lionsgate Television in association with Paramount Television Studios.

Ramos most recently appeared in Snowfall, Orange Is the New Black and The Blacklist.

The Mexican actor and Mayans M.C. alum has landed a recurring role on the upcoming fourth season of FX’s Snowfall..

Created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio and Dave Andron, the drama series revolves around the start of the cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles.

Jaramillo will play Chief Oscar Fuentes, the new Tijuana Police chief who is bold, ambitious, connected, smart and dangerous. He’s willing to let Teddy and Gustavo continue to go about their business in Mexico, but only if they make it worth his while.

Best known for his role as Riz Arisa on Mayans M.C., Jaramillo’s previous credits include appearances on NBC’s Shades of Blue, TNT’s Dallas and Universal PicturesSavages.

He was recently cast opposite Octavia Spencer in Amazon’s Invasion.

FX Renews Sergio Peris-Mencheta’s Drama “Snowfall” for Fourth Season

Nearly five episodes in to its third season, FX has ordered a fourth season of Snowfall, its acclaimed drama series about the start of the crack cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles, starring the 44-year-old Spanish actor.

The third season, currently airing, is set in the summer of 1984. Crack cocaine is spreading like wildfire through South Central Los Angeles, continuing its path of destruction and changing the culture forever. Police are waking up to this growing epidemic, and Sergeant Andre Wright (Marcus Henderson) has set his sights on budding Kingpin and next door neighbor Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) and his people. While local law enforcement fights to stem the tide, Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson) and the CIA are working hard to make sure the flow of cocaine into LA doesn’t stop. To continue funding the war against communism in Central America, Teddy will need to find new routes into the United States using Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata (Peris-Mencheta) and what’s left of the Villanueva family. As the stakes and losses continue to mount our players truly begin to understand the destructive force they have set in motion and must reexamine their own motivations and the cost of continuing forward from here.

FX Gives Series Order to Kurt Sutter’s “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff “Mayans MC,” Starring JD Pardo

FX has given a series order to Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC, starring the 37-year-old Argentine and Salvadoran American actor.

The network has given the series a 10-episode order and slated it for a 2018 premiere.

The series order comes after the pilot underwent a reshoot and recasting of some key roles. FX CEO John Landgraf expressed optimism for the future of the spinoff at last summer’s TCA, saying that he expected a pickup in about three months.

This is the latest FX drama to land a series order after retooling the pilot, joining such shows as Sons of Anarchy and Snowfall.

Co-created by Sutter and Elgin James and hailing from Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions, Mayans MC is the next chapter in Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy saga that was the highest-rated ongoing drama series in FX history. The Mayans were recurring and pivotal players in Sons of Anarchy throughout the show’s seven-year run.

Mayans MC is set in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), fresh out of prison, is a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American Dream within his grasp.

The series also stars Edward James Olmos, Antonio Jaramillo, Richard Cabral and Emilio Rivera.

Emily Rios to Star in Barry Jenkins’ “If Beale Street Could Talk”

The 28-year-old Latina actress has landed the key role of Victoria in director Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight followup, If Beale Street Could Talk, which is currently in production.

Starring KiKi Layne, the drama is based on James Baldwin’s novel about Tish, a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first child to term.

Rios joins an impressive cast roaster that includes Stephan James, Colman Domingo, Brian Tyree Henry, Dave Franco, Ed Skrein, and Regina King.

Jenkins penned the script and is producing under his Pastel label with Annapurna Pictures and Plan B.

Rios, best known for her role in AMC’s Breaking Bad, has starred in John Singleton’s FX series, Snowfall.

Peris-Mencheta’s “Snowfall” to Kick Off This Year’s ATX Television Festival

The ATX Television Festival will kick off with an opening-night screening and panel for John Singleton’s upcoming FX series Snowfall, starring the 41-year-old Spanish actor.

Set in Los Angeles circa 1983, the series’ focus is set on the first cocaine epidemic and its impact on the culture of the city.

Peris-Mencheta portrays Gustavo Zapata on the series, which also stars Manuel Uriza, Emily Rios and Camila Banus.

The Snowfall panel joins previously announced ATX fest events including a reunion of Alias writers, a Parks and Recreation community screening; reunions for Designing Women, Northern Exposure, thirtysomething and The Comeback; “Canceled Too Soon” panels with The Black Donnellys and The Middleman; and much more.
