Arantxa Loizaga to Co-Host Telemundo’s Revamped Morning Show “Hoy Dia,” Launching Monday

A new day has come for Arantxa Loizaga

The Latina broadcast journalist will host Telemundo’s revamped morning show Hoy Dia, which launches on Monday.

Arantxa Loizaga

Telemundo is promising Spanish-language viewers a newsier format in the a.m. hours, with the three-hour morning show replacing Un Nuevo Día.

In addition to Loizaga, the new show will feature Nacho Lozano and Nicole Suarez as its new group of hosts.

“Telemundo understands the big responsibility of informing our community, and that’s why Telemundo decided to just have a facelift, to do a makeover of the morning show,” Loizaga said in an interview.

Citing the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Latinos as well as the impact of the community in the 2020 presidential results, she said, “we understand the importance of being informed, to have all of the resources that they require to make the right decisions for themselves and their families.”

She described the show as akin to NBC’s Today but “in Spanish with a Latin flair.”

The first 90-minutes will feature headlines, newsmaker interviews and “news you can use,” presented in a less-structured way and in a “creative and engaging format,” she said. The second half of the show will feature entertainment, lifestyle and weather, with Adamari Lopez and Stephanie Himonidis as entertainment hosts. Alfredo Oropeza will be executive chef and Carlos Robles will be chief meteorologist.

Lozano said that while he would like to say that the show will “empower” the Latino community, “They are already empowered.”

“So we are going to provide the information, the argument to participate, and to of course recognize the power they have already,” he said.

He also said that the show would recognize the diversity within the Latino community.

“In order to empower them we need to talk about them, with our work, with our culture, with our accent,” Lozano said.

In the aftermath of the 2020 election, pundits zeroed in on the differences in the Hispanic vote, with Donald Trump doing better than expected in Florida and Joe Biden surprising by winning Arizona.

“The thing is that we understand, and our politicians understand after this 2020 electoral cycle, that the Latino community, we are not a monolith. Not all of the people who speak Spanish are Mexican, right? That is a very important distinction that we want to make,” Loizaga said.

She added, “Even if we all speak Spanish, we all have different cultures, and at Telemundo we recognize that. So for instance, for the Latino community living in the border cities, we understand that maybe immigration is the top priority, and we are going to be able to cater to them. Maybe up north in agricultural states like Wisconsin or Iowa or Illinois, we know that their priorities are conditions of life, working for these meat processing plants and the virus. …So we may be able to provide to them more information about the advantages of receiving the vaccine or their rights that they have as employees.”

Loizaga said that the three news anchors also will bring different personalities to the show. She recently anchored Univision’s national weekend newscast, and has been living in the U.S. for the past 17 years after emigrating from Mexico. Lozano was a news anchor and radio and TV host at Grupo Imagen in Mexico, and “is very jovial and really funny,” she said. Suarez is news correspondent for Noticias Telemundoand was born in the U.S. and raised in Chicago.

“With all of these three different approaches, we will be able to provide something unique,” she said.

As Spanish-language morning shows have been primarily focused on entertainment in the past few decades, Loizaga said, Hoy Dia will stand out.

“We realized there was a need for more information and accurate information and unbiased information as well, and this is what we are going to be able to provide to them,” she said.

Canseco to Serve as Co-Host on Telemundo’s “Un nuevo dia”

It’s a new day for Ana Maria Canseco

The 45-year-old Mexican television personality is returning to U.S. Spanish-language television to host Un nuevo dia, Telemundo’s morning show.

Ana Maria Canseco

Canseco’s participation in the program, which will begin on September 9, is a return to television after working for years hosting Univision’s morning show Despierta America.

Canseco, who hosted the program with Fernando Arau and Neida Sandoval, was on Despierta America for 13 years, until October 21, 2010. She and her co-hosts were all affected by the payroll cuts carried out by the network.

“I am so happy to be back on television in my new home, Telemundo, and to be part of the mornings of our audience that has followed me for so long and has shown me lots of love,” said Canseco in a press release.

“I love to be part of this great team and share the screen with my new colleagues … (and providing) Latinos (with) happiness, good entertainment and fun,” she said.

Un Nuevo Dia fills a three-hour slot from Monday through Friday providing general news, as well as news about entertainment, health, fashion and beauty, along with a good dose of humor.

Canseco joins the current team of presenters made up of Adamari Lopez, Rashel Diaz, Omar Germenos, Daniel Sarcos, Azucena Cierco, Alessandra Villegas, Chef James and Ramon Zayas.

Lopez Makes Her Debut on Telemundo’s “Un Nuevo Dia”

It’s un nuevo dia for Adamari Lopez

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican actress and telenovela star has made her highly anticipated debut on Telemundo’s morning show Un Nuevo Dia, which until this week was called Levantate!

Adamari Lopez

“What’s better than getting up really early in the morning, and here I am,” Lopez joked at the start of her first appearance on Monday. Her first morning surprise: finding her parents on set to greet her.

In her new role as a television presenter, Lopez is hosting the morning show’s regulars Rashel Diaz, Omar Germenos, Azucena Cierco and Daniel Sarcos.

Un Nuevo Dia Cast

Lopez has often been covered in the Spanish media because of personal issues like her engagement and subsequent breakup with Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, her victory on the celebrity dancing competition Mira Quien Baila and her successful bout with cancer.

“How wonderful they made me feel on @UnNuevoDia,” Lopez tweeted after her first day. “Thanks to all my fellow actors and to the production x so much affection. #Happy and grateful.”

Un Nuevo Dia is broadcast on Telemundo every weekday morning Monday through Friday.

López Sashays Her Way to the Mira Quién Baila Crown…

Should telenovela superstar Adamari López quit acting one day, she could easily take up ballroom dancing.

During last night’s grand finale of Mira Quién Baila, the 40-year-old Puerto Rican actress took home the crown on Univision’s celebrity dancing competition.

“I think I danced with my heart,” López said.

After coming in ahead of the competition, López’s face was all-aglow during a post-victory interview AOL Latino.

“I would scream again but I screamed earlier and I think there are others doing interviews right now so I can’t scream, but I am so happy and very excited,” the Amigas y Rivales actress. “I am very appreciative of the public of their votes.”

López reportedly received two million votes to clinch the title.

During her interview with AOL Latino, the breast cancer survivor talked about her selected charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a foundation that fights against breast cancer. The organization will receive López’ grand prize earnings.

López danced her way past singer Priscila Angel and Puerto Rican actor Erik Estrada, who placed third place.

Bailon’s High-Octane Dance on “Mira quién baila”

There’s no denying Adrienne Bailon knows how to shake her groove thing…or that she could easily be a contestant on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars.

The former Cheetah Girl strutted her stuff during a high-energy performance on Univision’s Mira quién baila—a dance competition similar to Dancing with the Stars.

Adrienne Baillon

The 28-year-old half Puerto Rican/half Ecuadorian singer/actress/dancer may not have belted out a song, but she definitely shook her bon bon during her appearance. Backed by a crew of male dancers, the former star of Disney’s The Cheetah Girls movies—dressed in a black leather jumpsuit and rhinestone-covered harness—descended from a swing before bustin’ a move on the dance floor.

After her performance, the former member of the girl group 3LW talked about her  career with the show’s hosts, including being discovered by Ricky Martin.

Bailon, who appears in Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything” video, says she’s a huge fan of the show. But she remain tight-lipped about who she’s hoping wins the title.

Contestants still in the hunt are Puerto Rican telenovela star Adamari Lopez, Puerto Rican American actor Erik Estrada and Mexican-American actress/model Elizabeth Gutiérrez.

Shakira Tops A Stellar Latin Grammys Lineup…

This year’s Latin Grammy Awards show is shaping up to be a star-studded event with high-octane performances by Puerto Rican superstar act Calle 13, Mexican crooner Marco Antonio Solis and international singing sensation Shakira, who will receive 2011 Person of the Year honors during the telecast.

Calle 13, comprised of Eduardo Cabra and Rene Perez, received a record 10 nominations this year, including nods for Album of the Year for “Entren Los Que Quieren” and Record of the Year for “Latinoamerica.” Solis’ “A Donde Vamos a Parar” is up for Song of the Year, while Shakira’s “Sale el Sol” is nominated for Album of the Year.

But those aren’t the only top-notch acts taking the stage…

The Latin Recording Academy has locked in a duet with Venezuelan troubadour Franco de Vita and Mexican rockera Alejandra Guzman; a special performance by Mexican rock group Mana of the remake of the band’s current singe, “El Verdadero Amor Perdona” with rising star Prince Royce; and a performance newcomer Sie7e.

Meanwhile, Hollywood actress Zoe Saldana and telenovela star Adamari Lopez have been added to the list of award presenters.

The Latin Grammys will be hosted by Mexican singer/actress Lucero and Chilean actor Cristian De la Fuente.

Univision will broadcast the awards show live from Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center on November 10.
