The rise to the summit comes a week after Karol G’s first live performance at the Billboard Music Awards on May 23, and her win for Top Latin Female Artist. She performed a medley of the tune and “Bichota” on the NBC broadcast.

The track rises with a 26% boost in audience impressions, to 8.7 million, earned in the week ending on May 30, according to MRC Data. That’s a 1.8 million gain from the previous week. “El Makinon” marks Karol G’s 11th Latin Airplay No. 1. Mariah Angeliq claims her first on any Billboard chart.

“El Makinon” is the fifth consecutive track from KG0516 (Karol’s first Top Latin Albums No. 1 debut) to crown Latin Airplay: “Tusa” with Nicki Minaj, “Ay, Dios Mio!,” “Bichota” and “Location” with Anuel AA and J Balvin all ruled for at least one week. Among women, she holds the record for the most leaders on the chart from the same album.

Beyond its Latin Airplay coronation, “El Makinon” takes the Greatest Gainer/Airplay honor on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales, and streaming data, with a 7-6 lift.

It’s only the third female pairing to rule since the chart’s inception in 1994.

Luis Fonsi Earns Ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay Chart with Rauw Alejandro-Collab “Vacío”

Luis Fonsi is on Cloud Nine

The song jumps 3-1 boosted by a 21% lift in audience impressions, to 6.7 million, earned in the week ending May 2, according to MRC Data.

Luis Fonsi earns his ninth No. 1 on the chart after “Perfecta” with Farruko reigned for two weeks starting in December 2020.

Rauw picks up his third, and second of the year, following “Baila Conmigo,” his two-week champ alongside Selena Gómez (March 13-dated list).

“Vacío” is the fourth male co-billed duet to top BillboardLatin Pop Airplay chart in 2021, one of which, as previously mentioned, also includes Luis Fonsi: “Perfecta,” with Farruko (Jan. 2).

In between, two other dual male pairings took the crown: Ozuna and Camilo’s “Despeinada” (four weeks starting Jan. 9-dated list) and Sebastian Yatra and Guaynaa’s “Chica Ideal” (three-week champ starting February 2).

“Vacío” is among a handful of songs of late to find reception among both Latin pop and Latin rhythmic audiences and radio. It continues its ascent on the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart (9-7) to become the fifth Latin pop song No. 1 of 2021 to make it to the top 10 of the Latin Rhythm Airplay chart, following four other titles which led Latin Pop Airplay before: Ozuna and Camilo’s “Despeinada,” Sebastian Yatra and Guaynaa’s “Chica Ideal,” Selena Gomez and Rauw Alejandro’s “Baila Conmigo” and Karol G, Anuel AA and J Balvin’s “Location.”

“Vacío” concurrently enters the top 10 on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart with a 14-9 hike. Luis Fonsi ups his career count to 19 top 10s, while Rauw clams his sixth. “Vacío” was written by Fonsi, Andres TorresMauricio RengifoOmar Alfanno and Rauw.

Karol G Teams Up with Anuel AA & J Balvin for Country-Tinged Track “Location”

Karol G’s gone country…

The 30-year-old Colombian singer has joined voices with Anuel AA and J Balvin for “Location,” a country-tinged track that deftly fuses reggaetón and hip-hop.

On “Location” — which starts off country but quickly picks up speed and transitions into an irresistible reggaeton track — Karol G is feeling cheeky, asking her crush to send his location because “hoy tengo mala intencion,” she confesses.

Produced by Ovy on the Drums, “Location” follows Karol G’s chart-topping hit “Bichota,” which also has a Western vibe to it.

“I like to give my fans a unique experience with every single release, both musically and visually,” Karol G said about “Location.” “It’s a very special song for me because I was able to collaborate with artists that I admire and we were able to fuse reggaeton/hip-hop/country influences into an amazing song and video filled with energy and rodeo vibes!”
