Karol G has another streaming hit video…

The official music video for the 33-year-old Colombian superstar’s massive breakup anthem with Shakira, “TQG,” has surpassed one billion views, officially entering YouTube’s Billion Views Club.

Shakira & Karol G The music video, released on February 24, 2023, as the focus track of Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito album, features the two Colombian powerhouses delivering the empowering track that’s short for “te quedó grande.”

In the bop, the artists go back and forth about moving on from their past relationships and being on another level.

“TQG” marks the eighth Billion Views Club entry for both acts as a lead, featured artist or collaborator.

For Karol, it follows “China,” “Tusa,” “Secreto,” “Bichota,” “Culpables,” “Ahora Me Llama” and “El Makinon.”

For Shakira, it follows “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” “Chantaje,” “La Bicicleta,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” “La La La” and “Perro Fiel.” The former is No. 13 on YouTube’s Global Top Artists chart, and the latter is No. 21.

On the Billboard charts, the Ovy on the Drums-produced banger debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. tallies, while also crowning six other Billboard listings and becoming Karol G’s first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore, the track won best collaboration at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.

Karol G’s “El Makinon” Video Joins YouTube’s Billion Views Club

Karol G is celebrating a big (machine) streaming hit…

Two years after its music video was released, the 32-year-old Colombian superstar and Mariah Angeliq’s girl-power anthem “El Makinon” has surpassed the billion-views mark on YouTube.

Karol GThe three-minute clip for “El Makinon” is Karol G’s seventh entry to the Billion Views Club as a lead, featured artist or collaborator. She also claims No. 10 on YouTube’s Global Top Artists and No. 15 on U.S. Top Artists

Featured on Karol’s 2021 KG0516 album, the infectious head-bopping, hip-swaying reggaetón song produced by Neo is about breaking all the rules with the girls.

“El Makinon,” slang for a “big machine,” tells the story of a girl who’s been independent since she was 16 years old, and now that she’s older, she still depends solely on herself.

“El Makinon” debuted at No. 9 on Hot Latin Songs and later peaked at No. 6 on the tally.

Most recently, Karol G performed a medley (“QLONA,” “Labios Mordidos” and “Ojos Ferrari”) at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, November 19. She also won two awards: top Latin female artist and top Latin touring artist. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her loyal fanbase.

“These awards mean the connection is there between all of you and me. I think you’re more than fans — you’re part of the team and the family. I give you half of all this because nothing would’ve been possible without you,” she said. “I always say awards are special because they’re an extra validation to what we do, but like I said before, to have your unconditional love, with or without music, with or without a tour, that will always be the best present ever and that’s what I hope will never fail or go away.”

Karol G’s “$Trip Love” Becomes Highest U.S.-Grossing Tour by a Female Latin Act

Karol G is makin’ history…

The 31-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter’s $Trip Love tour has grossed $69.9 million and sold 410,000 tickets across 32 shows in North America through the end of October, according to numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore. With those figures, Karol G has now earned the highest U.S.-grossing tour by a female Latin act.

Karol GWith $Trip Love, the “Provenza” singer surpasses Jennifer Lopez‘s $50 million grossing It’s My Party World Tour in 2019. Meanwhile, Shakira grossed $28.2 million in 2018 with her El Dorado World Tour.

This year, Rosalía’Motomami world tour has grossed $28.1 million through the end of October.

The AEG-produced $Trip Love stint, which kicked off on September 6 at Chicago’s Allstate Arena and wrapped up October 29 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, followed Karol’s Bichota Tour in 2021 — her first-ever headlining trek in the U.S. — which grossed $13.4 million and sold 192,000 tickets across 26 shows in North America.

Compared to her last tour, this one boasted a larger production scale. There was a heart-shaped stage, jumbo screens with a heart border, and a floating turquoise Ferrari that, when she rode it to sing “El Makinon,” brought her closer to her fans. On stage, Karol was joined by eight female dancers, four male dancers, two exotic dancers and, of course, her all-girl band.

After wrapping up the tour in North America, Karol G took to social media to write: “Thank you God for the conviction you have given me. Thank you to all the people that worked with me day and night to make this dream possible and to the artists who shared the stage with me during the tour. You made the show shine even more with your presence. We enjoyed this tour like we were little kids, but worked like machines. This is for my home, Colombia.”

Karol G, who is releasing a new song on Sunday (November 13), is currently working on her forthcoming album, which will follow her chart-topping, Grammy-nominated 2021 set KG0516. The album scored Karol her first-ever No. 1 album on Billboard‘Top Latin Albums chart.

Karol G is also slated to headline the 16th annual Calibash, taking place January 21-22 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. She joins a previously billed group of headliners that includes OzunaMyke Towers and Farruko.

Mariah Angeliq Teams Up with Mariah Becerra & Bad Gyal for “Bobo,” a Reimagining of TLC’s “No Scrubs”

Mariah Angeliq is making a TLC classic her own…

The 21-year-old Puerto Rican and Cuban American singer-songwriter, known as “La Princesa de Miami,” has joined voices with urbana newcomers Mariah Becerra and Bad Gyal for the single “Bobo.”

Mariah Angeliq, Mariah Becerra, Bad Gyal

Co-produced by DJ Chino and her longtime producer Nely El Arma Secreta, “Bobo” gives TLC’s ’90s anthem “No Scrubs” a reggaeton twist with a touch of Mariah’s perreo, Becerra’s urban-pop sounds, and Bad Gyal’s dancehall vibes.

Mariah does not hesitate to describe it as a “lit” collaboration overall.

“This song is going to make a big impact in the industry because we’re three girls,” she affirms.

“Honestly, I have loved this song since I was little,” she says. “I love R&B, and I think that’s one of the reasons that when Chino presented the idea to me I said, ‘Hell yeah!’ because I have that music in my soul.”

Mariah became a household name with her saucy 2019 single “Perreito.” In only two years, she captured the attention of her colleagues, landing major collaborations with Arcangel and Anuel AA, to name a few.

In March, Mariah joined forces with Karol G on “El Makinon,” a focus track from Karol’s KG0516 album. “It has definitely made my career grow,” Mariah tells Billboard, explaining that the Colombian star began supporting her music on social media before extending an invite to work together.

“This song has a lot of elements that identify me and that’s why I believe Karol wanted to do the song with me,” she recalls. “I was sharing my story when we were writing the song and I mentioned that I ran away at 16 to chase my dreams, so for sure, that’s why the song makes reference to that. Karol’s the same. She’s a fighter and she’s been working hard for her dreams since she was young. That’s why we connected on this song.”

“El Makinon,” slang for a big machine, also earned Mariah her first No. 1 on any Billboard chart when it topped the Latin Airplay chart dated June 5, becoming only the third female pairing to rule since the chart’s inception in 1994.

“Everything happened so quickly,” Mariah recalls. “I’m super happy because what’s better than to collaborate with one of the most important women in the industry? I took this as a blessing.”

Up next, Mariah is reportedly working on a full-length album and has 40 to 50 dates confirmed for an upcoming tour that will soon be announced.

Karol G’s “El Makinon,” Featuring Mariah Angeliq, Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

Karol G’s winning streak continues…

The 30-year-old Colombian singer’s collaboration with Mariah Angeliq, “El Makinon,” rises from No. 7 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart dated June 5.

Karol G & Mariah Angelique

The rise to the summit comes a week after Karol G’s first live performance at the Billboard Music Awards on May 23, and her win for Top Latin Female Artist. She performed a medley of the tune and “Bichota” on the NBC broadcast.

The track rises with a 26% boost in audience impressions, to 8.7 million, earned in the week ending on May 30, according to MRC Data. That’s a 1.8 million gain from the previous week. “El Makinon” marks Karol G’s 11th Latin Airplay No. 1. Mariah Angeliq claims her first on any Billboard chart.

“El Makinon” is the fifth consecutive track from KG0516 (Karol’s first Top Latin Albums No. 1 debut) to crown Latin Airplay: “Tusa” with Nicki Minaj, “Ay, Dios Mio!,” “Bichota” and “Location” with Anuel AA and J Balvin all ruled for at least one week. Among women, she holds the record for the most leaders on the chart from the same album.

Beyond its Latin Airplay coronation, “El Makinon” takes the Greatest Gainer/Airplay honor on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales, and streaming data, with a 7-6 lift.

It’s only the third female pairing to rule since the chart’s inception in 1994.

Bad Bunny: The Top Latinx Winner at the Billboard Music Awards

Bad Bunny is celebrating a memorable night…

The 27-year-old Puerto Rican superstar took home four awards at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards, the most of any Latinx artist.

Bad Bunny collected the awards Top Latin Artist, Top Latin Male Artist, Top Latin Song (“Dákiti“) and Top Latin Album (YHLQMDLG).

Bad Bunny, who performed “Te Deseo Lo Mejor” after accepting his Top Latin Artist award, presented by Lena Waithe, holds the record for the most top 40 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart with 104. He also holds the record for the most hits in total on that chart: 111. His chart-topping YHLQMDLG won him his first Grammy on March 14, when it was named Best Latin Pop or Urban Album.

In the Top Latin Artist category at the BBMAs, Bad Bunny was up against Anuel AA, J Balvin, Maluma and Ozuna.

“I share this [award] with all of my colleagues nominated who are doing big things for the genre,” he said in Spanish during his speech.

El Conejo Malo wasn’t the only one representing Latin music at the BBMAs. Colombian hitmaker Karol G also took center stage performing “Bichota” and “El Makinon” after being announced winner of the Top Latin Female Artist award, beating out Becky G and Rosalía.

Karol G, whose most recent album KG0516 debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, becoming her first No. 1 on that list, has amassed 25 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, including three No. 1s. She has had 10 No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart.

She performed a medley of her hits “Bichota” and “El Makinon,” both from her latest album KG0516. She also flaunted her “next level” dance moves that she rehearsed “very hard” for, as she told Billboard’s Leila Cobo.

“I’m happy and I’m nervous,” she said ahead of her big night. “A lot of power…with this performance, I want to express that I feel like a woman and a business girl. I feel so happy and grateful for everything that’s happening in my career and my life, and to have the opportunity to inspire girls all over the world.”

Finally, representing the Regional Mexican realm, Eslabon Armado took home the Top Latin Duo/Group award. The teenage trio was up against Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga and Los Dos Carnales in that category.

Known for their sierreño ballads, Eslabon Armado – comprised of brothers Pedro (lead vocalist) and Brian Tovar (bass and bajoloche), along with friend Gabriel Hidalgo (harmony and background vocals) – scored three consecutive chart-topping albums in 2020: Tu Veneno MortalVibras de Noche and Corta Venas.

“Always grateful to God, our parents, our label and our fans,” Eslabon Armado posted on their social media after they won the award. “This award is for all of you.”

Hosted by Nick Jonas, the ceremony also honored P!nk as the Icon, Drake as the artist of the decade and Trae Tha Truth as the Change Maker.

Bad Bunny to Perform at This Year’s Billboard Music Awards

Bad Bunny is bringing some Latin heat to the Billboard Music Awards

The 27-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer will perform “Te Deseo Lo Mejor” from his 2020 album El Último Tour Del Mundo, which made history as the first all-Spanish-language album to hit No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

Bad Bunny W Magazine Cover

In addition to topping the Billboard 200, Bad Bunny has also reached No. 1 on Billboards other flagship, all-genre chart, the Billboard Hot 100. He topped that chart with “I Like It,” his 2018 collab with Cardi B and J Balvin. In addition, he has cracked the top five on the Hot 100 with two other hits: “Mia” (featuring Drake) and “Dakiti” (a collab with Jhay Cortez).

Bad Bunny, a four-time BBMA winner, is nominated for seven more BBMAs this year, including top Latin artist and top Latin album, two categories he won last year. Bad Bunny is one of only nine artists with seven or more BBMA nods this year — and the only one representing Latin music.

He won his first Grammy on March 14, when his album YHLQMDLG won for best Latin pop or urban album.

Bad Bunny holds the record for the most top 40 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart with 104. He also holds the record for the most hits total on that chart: 111.

But Bad Bunny won’t be the only Latin artist to perform…

Karol G will take the stage for a special medley of her hits “Bichota” and “El Makinon.”

The 30-year-old Colombian singer’s most recent album, KG0516, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, becoming her first No. 1 on that list. It also made the top 20 on the Billboard 200, her highest ranking to date.

Karol G has amassed 25 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, including three No. 1s. She has had 10 No. 1s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart.

Hosted by Nick Jonas, the show will include performances by (in alphabetical order by principal performer) AJR, BTS, DJ Khaled featuring H.E.R. and Migos, Duran Duran, Glass Animals, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis with Sounds Of Blackness featuring Ann Nesby, Alicia Keys, P!nk, twenty one pilots and The Weeknd.

In addition to performing, P!nk will receive the ICON Award. She is the youngest recipient of that award to date.

Drake will receive the Artist of the Decade Award.  Trae Tha Truth will receive the Change Maker Award.

Billboard Music Awards finalists and winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay, and social engagement, tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data and Next Big Sound.
