Jennifer Lopez is joining the force…

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer and American Idol judge will star in an NBC detective drama Shades of Blue, which has received a 13-episode straight-to-series order from the network.

Jennifer Lopez

Produced by Lopez and Ryan Seacrest and written by Adi Hasak, the complex police series centers on Harlee McCord (portrayed by Lopez), a single mother and detective recruited to work undercover for the FBI’s anti-corruption task force.

Part of a close-knit unit known for its conviction record, Harlee has become compromised by her colleagues — all of whom also pitch in to help her raise her daughter — and finds herself faced with the moral dilemma of working against her cop brothers in order to redeem herself.

The project will begin working on scripts in June with an eye toward a 2015 production start date, all for the 2015-16 season.

“Whether its producing, acting, singing or any of her other many entrepreneurial activities, Jennifer is an extraordinary talent and life force, and we’re delighted to be in business with her and Adi Hasak on this sophisticated show,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “We’re especially excited that Jennifer is returning to her acting roots from such great movies as Out of Sight, and we know that she will create this complicated character in a vivid way that will breathe new life into the cop show genre. Ryan Seacrest is part of the NBCU family and doing his first scripted drama series with us makes perfect sense.”

After a couple of brief television series gigs in the early 1990s, Lopez transitioned into features with her breakout starring roles in 1997′s Selena and 1998′s Out of Sight.

For the past two decades, she has largely stayed away from scripted series sans a couple of guest starring stints, including Will & Grace and How I Met Your Mother, while becoming a reality star as a judge on American Idol.

As a producer, she has a hit with ABC Family’s drama series The Fosters

But Mollà isn’t the only Spaniard joining the cast…

Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin will plays Ellita Sanchez, a sharp young homicide detective recently promoted from dispatcher to Hoke’s new partner.

Other cast members include Body of Proof’s John Carroll Lynch Nashville’s Robert Wisdom and Guiding Light’s Tammy Blanchard.

Hoke is a darkly comedic take on Charles Willeford‘s series of novels Sideswipe, New Hope for the Dead and The Way We Die Now.

The project hails from writer/producer and Academy Award nominee Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Get Shorty).

Production is set to begin in Miami later this year.

Lopez Receives Star on the Hollywood Rock of Fame

Jennifer Lopez is walking tall…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican actress-singer and former American Idol judge was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, receiving the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s 2,500th star.

Jennifer Lopez Honored On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

“I cried like almost 15 thousand times,” she said afterward. “It was so crazy. But I kept promising everybody I wasn’t going to cry and they were like, ‘Cry!’ ‘You’re not helping!’ But it was an amazing moment.”

With boyfriend, Casper Smart, and her twins Max and Emme by her side, Lopez was serenaded with praise from actor Keenen Ivory Wayans, rapper Pitbull, her Selena director Gregory Nava and actress Jane Fonda, with whom she co-starred in Monster-in-Law.

“She should have an entire block of stars,” said Fonda. “In my opinion, she’s only scratched the surface in what she’s capable of.”

Lopez relished the chance to “kind of walk down memory lane” with Wayans — “he’s the reason I moved to Los Angeles because I got that job as a fly girl” — and Nava, who put her in her first movie.
“You realize you’ve been at this for a long time and you’ve been fighting and getting it,” she said. “It’s a real kind of landmark day for me and I am just glad my family was here to share it with me.”

Jennifer Lopez's Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Lopez, dressed brightly in a white top and a flowing peach skirt, became the first Latina actress to earn over $1 million for a role with the film Out of Sight.

With the simultaneous release of her second studio album J.Lo and her film The Wedding Planner in 2001, she became the first person to have a number one album and film in the same week.

With records sales of 75 million and a cumulative film gross of over $2 billion worldwide, Lopez is considered the most influential Hispanic performer in the United States.

First Trailer Released for Lopez’s “Parker”

If you loved Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight, then you’re in for a treat…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer is starring in the action film Parker with Jason Statham, as previously reported… And by the looks of the film’s just-released first trailer, la Lopez shines bright in the film.

Jennifer Lopez in Parker

Westlake, Parker follows Statham’s titular character, a professional thief who lives by a personal code of ethics: “Don’t steal from people who can’t afford it and don’t hurt people who don’t deserve it.” But, on his latest heist, his crew double crosses him, steals his stash, and leaves him for dead.

Determined to exact revenge, Parker tracks them down to Palm Beach, where the crew is planning their biggest heist ever. Donning the disguise of a rich Texan, Parker takes on an unlikely partner, Leslie (J.Lo), a savvy insider, who’s short on cash, but big on looks, smarts and ambition. Together, they devise a plan to hijack the score, take everyone down and get away clean.

Directed by Taylor Hackford, the cast includes Michael Chiklis, Nick Nolte, Wendell Pierce, Clifton Collins Jr., Patti LuPone and Emma Booth.

The movie is set to open on January 25.
