Arjona to Release New Album “Circo Soledad” Next Month

Ricardo Arjona is circling with new music…

Less than a year after releasing his acoustic album Apague la Luz y Escuche, the 53-year-old Guatemalan singer-songwriter is set to drop a new album titled Circo Soledad on April 21.

Ricardo Arjona

Along with the release of the LP, Arjona will embark on a world tour in June, which will include a return to Europe after eight years with stops in London, Paris and Barcelona.

Arjona recorded Circo Soledad in different countries, including England, Colombia and his native Guatemala.

“I never recorded in a country pretending that that place would become the main character in the song. If this production took me to many countries, studios and allowed me to work with some of the most important musicians around the world, it was simply because the song needed it,” Arjona said in a statement.

Arjona’s Apague la Luz y Escuche spent two weeks at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Pop Albums chart.

The new album’s first single and music video “Ella” will be released on Friday.

Arjona Releases Music Video for New Single “Nada es como tú”

Ricardo Arjona won’t be easily tempted…

The 52-year-old Guatemalan singer-songwriter has released the official music video for his website-breaking new single “Nada es como tú.”

Ricardo Arjona

In the clip, Arjona proved that he won’t fall for a woman’s charm.

Despite being tempted and seduced by beautiful women who watch him sing onstage and compete for his attention, Arjona decides that his son, who appears at the end of the video with a soccer ball, is the one he wants to spend time with.

“Nothing is like you, nothing is as perfect as you,” sings Arjona on the acoustic track, which is the first single to his upcoming album Apague la luz y escuche, an all-acoustic LP.

Arjona released the new track in June, making it available for free on his website for two hours. But after more than 100,000 fans tried to download the song within the first 30 seconds, the site crashed.

The music video was filmed in New York’s Museo del Barrio.

Arjona’s Fans Take Center Stage in “Nada es como tú” Lyric Video

Ricardo Arjona is getting an assist from his fans…

The 52-year-old Guatemalan singer-songwriter put his fans center stage in his new lyric video for “Nada es como tú.”

Ricardo Arjona

Arjona took to social media to present the clip, which is made up of videos and artwork sent by his fans, resulting in a four-minute compilation of Arjona fans around the world singing along to his new single.

Arjona released his new track two weeks ago, making it available to download for free for only two hours on his website. But after 30 seconds, the site crashed after more than 100,000 fans tried to download “Nada es como tú” simultaneously.

The romantic tune will be featured on Arjona’s upcoming all acoustic album titled Apague la luz y escuche.

Arjona’s Website Crashes in 30 Seconds After 100,000 Fans Download His New Single

Ricardo Arjona knows how to shut down the Internet…

The 52-year-old Guatemalan singer-songwriter’s website, ricardoarjona.com, collapsed after he allowed fans to download his new single, “Nada es como tu,” for free on Friday.

Ricardo Arjona

Arjona announced on his social media pages that he’d be offering “Nada es como tu” exclusively on his website, and not on iTunes (“No en iTunes,” read the banners on his social sites).

The single was offered as a free download for two hours on Friday.

Within 30 seconds, 100,000 users went on the website in an effort to download the single, causing it to crash.

“We had prepared for big traffic, but never for what is happening,” Arjona posted on his page. “We are working on making the single available to you.”

The new single hails from Arjona’s all acoustic album, Apague la luz y escuche… It features Arjona singing simply with his guitar and little else.

“Nada es como tu” will be available for sale beginning Monday (June 20), only on Arjona’s website.

This isn’t the first time Arjona has tried a maverick move. Several years ago, the Guatemalan star announced he would record and release his music independently, after years on major labels. Arjona’s most recent album, Viaje, was released on his own label, Metamorfosis, with distribution from Sony.

Moreno Releases Spanish-Language Holiday Album, “Posada”

Gaby Moreno is getting into the holiday spirit… en español

The 32-year-old Guatemalan singer-songwriter and guitarist has released a Christmas album that’s being heralded as an insta-Latin holiday classic.

Gaby Moreno

Moreno’s Posada, released in the U.S. on indie label Cosmica, blends the singer’s love of gospel, soul and piano jazz with acoustic sounds from her Central American roots to revive a set of traditional holiday songs.

Moreno performs standard Spanish-language hymns with passion, delivering a beautiful rendition of “El Niño del Tambor” and bringing a little naughty to “Peces en el Rio” in a revved-up cabaret version of the children’s Christmas classic.

On an album that includes English and German-language lyrics, the singer seduces with a retro “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” set to brushed drums. Moreno and her band add some honky tonk to “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”

A video for Moreno’s spare and emotive “Primer Noel,” premiering on Billboard.com, features the artist reliving childhood holiday memories.

Unlike the album, which is notable for Moreno’s decidedly non-secular approach to holiday music, the video brings some typical Christmas commercialism to her message with a bottle of Pepsi placed prominently on her piano. Moreno recently appeared at a Pepsi holiday concert and in a commercial for the beverage’s holiday campaign in Guatemala.

Moreno has a strong bilingual following in her adopted home city of Los Angeles, and she’s most widely known to Spanish-speakers for her 2011 duet with Ricardo Arjona, “Fuiste Tu.” That track has neared 165 million views on YouTube, and it rose to #1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay and Tropical Airplay charts.

Moreno parlayed that connection into a well-received Latin American tour for her 2012 album Postales, released on Arjona’s label Metamorfosis, which also produced her Christmas record.

Despite being named Best New Artist at the 2013 Latin Grammys, the singer still remains underappreciated in the U.S. Latin market. Postales sold 3,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen Soundscan.

Arjona Bringing His “Viaje” Tour to the United States Next Year

Ricardo Arjona is ready for an American voyage

The 50-year-old Guatemalan singer-songwriter has announced plans to bring his Viaje (Voyage) tour to the United States, with the kick off concert set for the American Airlines Arena in Miami on February 27.

Ricardo Arjona

The announcement comes after Arjona sold more than 500,000 tickets in South America alone as part of his popular tour.

Arjona’s tour, as of now, will hit 13 markets, including New York, El Paso and Los Angeles. Tickets will go on sale Friday through Ticketmaster.

Arjona’s tour is shaping up to be one of the biggest U.S. tours for a Latin act in 2015. His last U.S. arena stint — which started in February 2012 and ended a year later, following his Latin American tour — featured 14 dates in 12 venues and played two nights at both the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and Puerto Rico’s Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot. All told, Arjona grossed $13.5 million in ticket sales, according to BoxScore, and came in as the fourth highest-grossing Latin tour of 2013.

This time around, Puerto Rico dates haven’t been announced yet, and the tour is already bigger, with stops in cities Arjona didn’t play the last time around, including Hidalgo and El Paso, Texas.

Prior to his U.S. dates, Arjona will also tour Mexico, including five shows at the 10,000-seat Auditorio Nacional.

The tour is named after his Viaje album, which debuted at No. 1 in May and is the ninth top-selling Latin album this year to date, according to Soundscan. It’s also nominated for a Latin Grammy in the Best Singer/Songwriter album category, while the single “Lo Poco Que Tengo” is currently at No. 18 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart.

Arjona, who branched out as an independent artist four years ago — albeit distributed by Sony Music — has been aggressively investing in his tour and promotion, and his live show has grown increasingly complex and lucrative.

The Viaje show features a train station set that’s more 60 feet tall, with over 200 robotic lights and more than 40 tons of equipment onstage. While the scale is seen with major mainstream acts, it certainly isn’t common for a Latin act on the road. But it’s been giving steady dividends. In Buenos Aires alone, Arjona became the first artist to play seven GEBA Stadium shows, which were seen by more than 200,000 people.

Here are Arjona’s 2015 U.S. tour dates so far:
