Elizabeth Rodriguez to Star Opposite Jimmy Smits in CBS’ Police Drama Pilot “East New York”

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican actress and former Orange is the New Black star will star opposite Jimmy Smits and Amanda Warren in the CBS police drama pilot East New York.

Elizabeth RodriguezCo-written by William Finkelstein and Mike Flynn and directed by Mike Robin, the project centers on Regina Haywood (Warren), the newly promoted deputy inspector of East New York, an impoverished, working-class neighborhood at the eastern edge of Brooklyn. She leads a diverse group of officers and detectives, some of whom are reluctant to deploy her creative methods of serving and protecting during the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.

Rodriguez will portray Crystal Morales, an intuitive detective who is not easily intimidated. She closely guards her private life, making her an object of endless speculation.

In addition to Warren and Smits, they join previously announced series regulars Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Richard Kind, Lavel Schley and Olivia Luccardi.

Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

Rodriguez played Aleida Diaz on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, for which she received three consecutive SAG Awards. She was a series regular on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, NBC’s Prime Suspect and Cinemax’s Blanco.

Rodriguez most recently completed a starring role in the feature film Allswell, which she also co-wrote and co-produced.

Liana Liberato to Star in the Thriller “Left with Only Rain”

The 26-year-old part-Mexican American actress will star in Todd Bogin’s first feature, Left with Only Rain.

The thriller centers on Sabina Geshem, a young woman reeling from a breakup, who is struggling to rebuild her once-promising dance career. After a dalliance with her ex threatens her big comeback, Sabina goes to a small town to track him down. There, she discovers his new and pregnant girlfriend, inserting herself into the unsuspecting woman’s life, and seeking something other than closure.

Bogin penned the script for the film.

Liberato recently wrapped production on K. Asher Levin’s Dig, an indie feature in which she stars opposite Emile Hirsch.

She can currently be seen in Banana Split, a Netflix rom-com in which she stars opposite Dylan Sprouse, and as McKenna Brady in Hulu’s Light as a Feather, having earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for her turn in the YA series.

The actress has also appeared in features including To the StarsMeasure of a ManTo the BoneNovitiateIf I Stay, and Stuck in Love, among others.

Wilson Cruz to Take Part in Classic “Superman” Radio Series Reenactments During Next Week’s ‘DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse’ Virtual Event

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican actor will take part in Warner Bros. and The Creative Coalition’s reenactments of the 1940s Superman radio series to take place during DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse on September 12. The acclaimed original long-running radio serial originally aired from 1940 to 1951.

The reenactments of the Superman radio series will be available all day during the virtual confab and feature an all-star roster of actors toplined by Cruz, who stars on Star Trek: Discovery, Tim Daly and Daniel Dae Kim as the Man of Steel himself.

Using original scripts from the long-running radio serial recently unearthed from the Warner Bros. Studios vault, this rare production will allow fans to experience one of their favorite superheros in a unique way.

Perez and the gang performed their charity single “What the World Needs Now is Love as a tribute to victims of gun violence during the D.N.C. on Wednesday (July 27).

Performers included Ben VereenDarren Criss, Brian Stokes Mitchell, with each getting a chance to sing the classic song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, inciting the audience to join arms and sing along in unity.

The joyous performance also included Kristen Bell, Debra Messing, Richard Kind and Stephanie J. Block, Tyne Daly and more.

Consuelos to Star in Katie Holmes’ Directorial Debut “All We Had”

The 44-year-old half-Mexican actor has joined the cast of All We Had, the directorial debut of Katie Holmes.

Consuelos, best known for his role as Mateo Santos on All My Children, will portray “Vic.”

Stefania Owen, Luke Wilson, Richard Kind and Judy Greer also star in the film about a young mother and her teenage daughter who relocate to a small midwestern town during the height of the worldwide economic crisis in hopes of making a better life.

Josh Boone and Jill Killington wrote the script, based on the novel by Annie Weatherwax.

Consuelos currently stars in Amazon’s political comedy series Alpha House.

His other credits include Guys with Kids, The New Normal, American Horror Story: Asylum and Ugly Betty.
