Selena Gomez Releases First-Ever Spanish Album “Revelación”

It’s a revelation like no other for Selena Gomez

A decade after tweeting that Spanish music was on the way, the 28-year-old Mexican American singer/actress has officially released her first-ever Spanish project.

Selena Gomez

Entitled Revelación, the seven-track set, produced by hitmaker Tainy, kicks off with the dreamy pop track “De Una Vez” that puts Gomez’s soothing vocals and empowering lyrics at the forefront.

“She wanted us to give life to Selena Gomez in Spanish,” singer-songwriter Elena Rose, who co-wrote most of the songs on the EP, tells Billboard. “For it to be a direct translation of who she is when she’s singing in English. She’s all about empowerment, compassion, being a warrior, and being vulnerable. So the lyrics were very important here.”

Revelación picks up speed with more rhythmic, soft reggaeton tracks like “Buscando Amor,” the Rauw Alejandro-assisted “Baila Conmigo,” and “Dámelo To’” with Myke Towers.

She then goes solo again with “Vicio” and “Adiós.”

The EP, an exploration of her Latin roots, follows Gomez’s 2020 album Rare.

Martin’s “Disparo Al Corazon” Makes Impressive Debut on Billboard’s Latin Charts

It’s a shot to the charts for Ricky Martin

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican singer has landed his way onto Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart with “Disparo Al Corazon,” the second single from his upcoming tenth studio album A Quien Quiera Escuchar.

Ricky Martin

Martin’s ballad enters the chart at No. 35, aided by 3.2 million audience impressions gained during its first week at radio, according to Nielsen Music (week ending Jan. 18).

WKAQ, San Juan, in the singer’s native Puerto Rico, championed the song with 58 spins during the tracking week.

Entering at No. 19 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay chart, Martin extends his lead for most top 20s on the chart to 40 (followed by Enrique Iglesias with 36).

It’s the 42nd hit to earn its notch on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart for Martin, and follows the set’s lead single, “Adios,” which dips 38-37 in its 17th week. Furthermore, “Disparo Al Corazon” opens at No. 7 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Digital Songs chart (1,000 downloads), trailing “Adios” at No. 4 (2,000).

The entrance marks the first ballad on the chart for Martin since 2013 when he joined former Menudo bandmate and longtime collaborator Draco Rosa as a featured act on “Mas y Mas.” The single, from Rosa’s Vida set, reached No. 27 on Hot Latin Songs.

“Disparo” was produced by Julio Reyes (Jennifer Lopez, Alejandro Sanz) and written by Martin along with Pedro Capo and Yoel Henriquez.

A video clip for the song is expected to premiere in the following weeks.

Martin Notches His 24th Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

Ricky Martin is moving up the list of acts with the most top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican singer has scored his 24th top 10 on the chart as “Adios” jumps 16-9.

The rise is fueled by Martin’s performance of the uptempo song at the Latin Grammy Awards, which aired on Univision on November 20.

The performance boosted the tune’s digital sales 151 percent (to 3,000 downloads) in the week ending November 23, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The rise in sales also drives the track 15-4 on Billboard’s Latin Digital Songs chart.

“Adios” moves Martin ahead of Gloria Estefan on the list of acts with the most top 10 hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Luis Miguel leads all artists, with 39 top 10s, followed by Enrique Iglesias (34), Chayanne (29), Cristian Castro (29), Marco Antonio Solis (25), Martin (24) and Estefan (23).

In addition to his solo turn on the awards, Martin also performed with Mexican duo Camila, singing their track “Perdon.” It also enjoyed a post-show sales bump (130 percent, to over 2,000 downloads), rising 21-9 on the Latin Digital Songs chart.

On the Latin Grammys‘ red carpet, Martin announced that his upcoming studio album will be released early next year.

Martin Releasing Official “Adios” Music Video on Twitter

Ricky Martin is bidding “adios” to Twitter

No, the 42-year-old Puerto Rican superstar isn’t quitting the social networking site.

Ricky Martin

On Monday night, he’s actually set to launch the official music video for his latest single “Adios” on Twitter.

Martin’s followers will be able to check out the video’s premiere on www.twitter.com/ricky_martin, as well as take part in a Q&A session on his official Twitter account starting at 2300 GMT Monday.

It’s no surprise Martin has selected Twitter as the outlet for the video’s premiere. In the past year, more than a million tweets have been posted mentioning the former Menudo band member, who takes the utmost advantage of social networks to stay in touch with his fans.

In the video, Martin, who in the past few days has posted pictures and previews of this world premiere under the label #AdiosVideo, recalls the flourishing arts of the 1930s.

Filmed in Los Angeles under the direction of Ethan Ladder, the video presents Martin as five different characters: policeman, bartender, bodyguard, gangster and singer.

He’s accompanied in the video by more than 50 extras and dancers from the musical revue The Harlow Gold Show, created by Tracy Phillips and Dominic Carbone. That show pays tribute to exploration, the female form and burlesque.

The clip is staged at Harvelle’s, a California tavern that opened as a speakeasy in 1931 during the Prohibition era.

“Adios,” the first single from Martin’s upcoming disc that goes on sale in early 2015, is influenced by rhythms from around the world and was produced by Jesse Shatkin, Yotuel Romero, Antonio Rayo and Martin.
