Mars Earns Three Billboard Music Award Nominations, Including Top R&B Artist

The 2017 Billboard Music Awards nominations have been announced, with the 31-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer leading the Latino pack of nominees with three.

Bruno Mars

Mars, who released his third album 24K Magic last November, is nominated in the Top R&B Artist category.

Mars, who picked up a Billboard Music Award in 2011 for “Just The Way You Are,” will also compete in the Top R&B Album and Top R&B Song categories.

But Mars isn’t the only multiple Latino nominee…

The 52-year-old part-Mexican American guitarist and his groupmates are nominated for Top Rock Artist, as well as the Top Rock Album for Hardwired…To Self Destruct.

Shakira, a 7-time Billboard Music Award winner, received two nods in the same category, Top Latin Song, for “Chantaje,” her collaboration with Maluma, and “La Bicicleta,” her collaboration with Carlos Vives.

Two-time Grammy winner and 3-time Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda also earned two nominations in the same category, Top Soundtrack/Cast Album.

The 37-year-old Puerto Rican actor, singer, composer and lyricist is a nominee for his work on the cast album to the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, as well as his Oscar-nominated work on the soundtrack to Disney’s Moana.

Cabello, Pitbull & J Balvin Release English-Version of “Hey Ma”

Camila Cabello, Pitbull and J Balvin are switching tongues…

Following the release of the Spanish version of the trio’s “Hey Ma,” the Latino singers anticipated English version has dropped.

Pitbull, Camila Cabello & J Balvin

The upbeat track is part of the Fate of the Furious soundtrack, which features other artists including Migos, Wiz Khalifa and Young Thug.

The Spanish version of “Hey Ma” debuted at No. 5 on Billboards Hot Latin Songs (chart dated April 1) — Cabello’s first hit on the chart and Pit’s highest debut ever. And Balvin matched the debut of “Ginza,” which arrived at No. 5 in 2015.

The music video was shot in the colorful and historical street of Española Way in Miami. The clip includes scenes from the eight installation of the Fast and the Furious franchise set to bow in theaters April 14.

Cabello Teaming with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder on New Music

It’s one republic for Camila Cabello

The 20-year-old Cuban singer and former Fifth Harmony member is spending studio time with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder.

Camila Cabello & Ryan Tedder

Earlier this week, Cabello and Tedder took to Twitter to give fans a peek at what they were up to: making music together. Tedder was the first to tease their forthcoming collaboration, sharing a video with Cabello in the studio.

“Studio moments of musical genius with Camila Cabello,” Tedder captioned the video.

After retweeting Tedder and OneRepublic, Cabello chimed in herself by replying to Tedder using a series of emojis including hearts, piano keys and a guitar.

Although neither Cabello nor Tedder gave any hint as to what exactly they were working on, but OneRepublic had announced that new music is on the way earlier that day — so it seemingly won’t be long before we find out more.

It’s the latest in a line of collaborations for Cabello since announcing her departure from Fifth Harmony.

Most recently, Cabello partnered with Pitbull and J Balvin for the Fate of the Furious track, “Hey Ma.” She’s also working with Major Lazer on new music, and joined voices with Cashmere Cat on “Love Incredible.”

Before leaving the all-girl Group, Cabello worked with Shawn Mendes and Machine Gun Kelly as well.

Cabello Working with Major Lazer on New Music

Camila Cabello is apparently Lazer-focused on her solo career…

Major Lazer are dishing some major details about their studio time with the 20-year-old Cuban singer and former Fifth Harmony member.

Major Lazer & Camila Cabello

In an exclusive interview with Billboard Dance on Tuesday, the dance supergroup divulged more about their forthcoming collaborations Cabello.

The trio’s founder Diplo has teased their studio time together multiple times on Snapchat, the latest being back in January alongside Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat.

And it seems the year-long stream of social media snippets resulted in a lot of unreleased material between them.

“We made like 20 songs with Camila Cabello,” Diplo says. “We love her.”

Diplo confirmed that there is a particular track in mind, set for release in the near future, but that “until we have the video and the song is on iTunes, you never know.” He adds, “But of course we have stuff with her. She’s done stuff with a lot of our friends, like Cashmere Cat, Benny Blanco, Frank Dukes — a lot of great producers we work with.”

There’s a good reason Camila has developed a close working relationship with the powerhouse trio: In the midst of her skyrocketing fame, she feels grounded when she’s with them. “Sometimes we just take for granted because we’re old, we’re not even famous,” Diplo says. “When you’re young and you’re that amazing and famous like that, it’s hard to live and be normal. When we’re with her, she enjoys that time because we take her places where she can enjoy herself. We love her, her voice is amazing. We’ve done many demos.”

Cabello & Shawn Mendes Cover Ed Sheeran’s “Kiss Me”

Camila Cabello is puckering up with an impressive cover…

The 20-year-old Cuban singer and former Fifth Harmony member joined voices with Shawn Mendes, reigniting romance rumors, to nail an Ed Sheeran cover.

Camila Cabello & Shawn Mendes

Mendes recently shared an Instagram video of himself with Cabello singing Sheeran’s + track “Kiss Me,” which Mendes said he recently found deep in his iPhone archives.

Cabello and Mendes’ harmonies are spot on, as neither misses a note while Mendes plays his acoustic guitar.

This isn’t the first time Cabello and Mendes have collaborated: They teamed up for the catchy “I Know What You Did Last Summer” in November 2015.

During that same time frame, Mendes and Cabello traded flirty tweets that left fans wondering if they were an item.

Rumors of a relationship eventually fizzled, as both adamantly stated they were just friends.

But this Sheeran cover could leave people wondering if Mendes and Cabello are an item.

Cabello Earns First Entry on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

It’s a hot shot debut for Camila Cabello on the Latin charts…

The 20-year-old Cuban singer’s collaboration with Pitbull and J BalvinHey Ma” earns the week’s highest debut on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, dated April 1.

Camila Cabello

The song, from The Fate of the Furious soundtrack (due April 14), bows at No. 5.

It’s Cabello’s first hit on the chart, while the entrance marks Pitbull’s highest debut ever on the multi-metric chart (which combines airplay, sales, and streams) of his 37 total chart entries. Balvin matches his previous best (“Ginza” arrived at No. 5 in 2015).

The majority of points helping the debut come from streams and song sales, with less than 2 percent stemming from airplay. The track arrives with 14,000 downloads sold in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen Music, earning it a No. 1 start on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, with the highest weekly sales figure since October 2015 (when Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias’ “El Perdon” sold just over 14,000 downloads). The chart-topping bow notches Balvin his first-ever No. 1 on the chart and Pitbull earns his fifth.

First-week streams total 3.2 million, with 54 percent stemming from YouTube plays. A music video, shot in Miami, has gathered 29 million global views on the platform through March 23, since being released on March 10.
