Cardi B’s wap-ping her way into the music history books…
The 27-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s smash “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, has reached the No. 1 spot on the U.K. charts.
Cardi B’s “WAP” rises 2-1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, to become the first-ever female rap collaboration to reach the summit in the U.K.
After two weeks at No. 2, the track snags 65,000 charts sales, including 8.5 million streams, to take the title, the Official Charts Company reports.
It’s a personal best for both artists. Cardi B’s previous peak on the U.K. chart was No. 5 for 2018’s “Finesse,” her collaboration with Bruno Mars. Megan’s previous high point was a No. 3 for “Savage” in May of this year.
“WAP” is just the second female-led single to hit the top this year, following Lady Gaga’s “Rain On Me” featuring Ariana Grande in May.
You’d have to go back to September 2014 for the last all-female collaboration to hit No. 1, Jessie J, Grande and Nicki Minaj’s “Bang Bang”.
During this year’s socially distanced and COVID-19-compliant awards ceremony, Maluma and J Balvin picked up the Best Latin award for their hit collaboration “Que Pena.” It’s J Balvin’s fifth MTV VMAs trophy, and his third straight in the Best Latin category.
Maluma, who performed during this year’s VMAs ceremony, had previously been nominated three times in the Best Latin category.
But Maluma wasn’t the only Latinx act with reason to celebrate…
CNCO picked up their first MTV Video Music Awards prize.
The Latin boy band, a Push Artist of the Year nominee at last year’s ceremony, won in the Best Quarantine Performance category for their “MTV Unplugged at Home” at-home concert earlier this year. The performance featured the songs “De Cero” and “Honey Boo.”
Airing live on MTV and simulcast on The CW and other ViacomCBS brands, the 37th annual ceremony was hosted by Keke Palmer with performances by Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and others. Shot in the various boroughs of New York City, the ceremony was an homage to the city and its resilience.

BTS will make their first television performance of their English-language single “Dynamite,” while Lady Gaga and Ariana Grandewill perform “Rain On Me” on stage for the first time on television since releasing their No. 1 hit. The two pop stars lead this year’s nominations with nine each. Malumaand CNCO are also confirmed to perform.

The 27-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, has notched a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.
“WAP,” which fended off a challenge from Drake‘s “Laugh Now Cry Later,” featuring Lil Durk, is the first song to spend its first two weeks on the chart at No. 1 since Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings,” which tallied its first five weeks on the chart in the top spot (of eight total frames at No. 1), beginning on the February 2, 2019-dated tally.
Meanwhile, “WAP” is the first song among women to lead the Hot 100 for multiple weeks since Mariah Carey‘s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reigned for three weeks in December-January. Before that, Lizzo‘s “Truth Hurts” totaled seven weeks at No. 1 last September-October.

A week ago, it blasted in with 93 million streams, the most ever for a song in its first week of release.
“WAP” concurrently posts a second week at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts, which employ the same multi-metric methodology as the Hot 100.
“WAP” additionally debuts at No. 48 on the Radio Songs chart with 16.5 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 42%) in the week ending August 23.

The 27-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress has shared a snippet of a new song from her upcoming yet-untitled album on social media.
In an Instagram Story, Lovato wears a multi-colored ’90s-inspired Gucci jacket and slim sunglasses while driving around L.A. listening to the seemingly autobiographical track.
“I know I made it hard for you / And I owe my part, I’ll tell the truth / You said that it’d be over/ If I didn’t get sober / Sober,” her voice croons from the car’s speakers.
Lovato also used a GIF of a steaming teapot in the Story, which she captioned “#D7.”
While the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer has yet to announce an official release date for her seventh studio set, the LP is expected to include the self-love anthem “I Love Me.”
The album will also serve as her first full-length release since recovering from an accidental overdose and hospitalization back in July 2018.
One month prior to her relapse, Lovato dropped one-off single “Sober,” a heart-wrenching, apologetic ballad detailing her lapse in sobriety.
She’s since signed with Scooter Braun as her new manager, joining the music mogul’s powerhouse roster of clients including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly and more.
Lovato is a two-time Grammy nominee, for her album Confidentand song “Fall in Line” with Christina Aguilera.
While fans anxiously await the follow-up to 2017’s Tell Me You Love Me, Lovato is next set to join forces with JoJo on a remix of the latter’s single “Lonely Hearts.” The duet between the two big-voiced singers will be included on the deluxe edition of JoJo’s latest album, Good to Know, which is slated for release on August 28 via Clover Music/Warner Records.
Selena Gomez is encouraging people to register to vote…
The 28-year-old Mexican American singer/actress took to social media over the weekend to remind Americans to make sure they’re registered to vote for the November 3 election, which is less than 100 days away.
Gomez shared information about how to register to vote as part of Register a Friend Day. Other celebrities who took part in the initiative included Ariana Grande, Lin-Manuel Miranda, former President Barack Obamaand former First Lady Michelle Obama,LL Cool Jand Cher.
President Donald Trump has continued to spread false theories about voting by mail – even though he’s done so himself – leading election experts to worry that a nation gripped by the coronavirus pandemic could face a chaotic election that may put even more Americans’ health at risk with a push for in-person voting in the midst of both a health and financial crisis.
Currently, presumptive Democratic candidate Joe Biden has a commanding 50-36 lead over Trump, whose mishandled response to COVID-19 has put the U.S. atop the list of countries with the most cases and deaths.
The 27-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress is taking her relationship with actor Max Ehrich to the next level, after saying “yes” to his marriage proposal.
“When I was a little girl, my birth dad always called me his ‘little partner’ – something that might’ve sounded strange without his southern cowboy like accent,” she writes. “To me it made perfect sense. And today that word makes perfect sense again but today I’m officially going to be someone else’s partner.”
Ehrich, whom she has been romantically linked to since March, is the right guy. “I knew I loved you the moment I met you,” she continues.
“It was something I can’t describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced it firsthand but luckily you did too.. I’ve never felt so unconditionally loved by someone in my life (other than my parents) flaws and all,” she enthuses. “You never pressure me to be anything other than myself. And you make me want to be the best version of myself.”
Ehrich proposed, Lovato said yes. And the happy couple are all loved up.
“I’m honored to accept your hand in marriage,” Demi writes. “I love you more than a caption could express but I’m ecstatic to start a family and life with you. I love you forever my baby. My partner. Here’s to our future.”
The couple confirmed their relationship in May by making a surprise appearance in the music video for Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande‘s quarantine tune, “Stuck With U.”
It’ll be a day of (Disney) remembrance for Miguel…
The 34-year-old half-Mexican American singer will take part in ABC’s The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II.
Miguel will perform “Remember Me,” the song he recorded for the soundtrack to the Dia de los Muertos-themed animated feature Coco.
Miguel’s version of the song appeared at the end of the film. He also performed a Spanish-English duet of the track with Natalia Lafourcade entitled “Recuérdame.”
“Remember Me” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Shakira, meantime, is set to perform “Try Everything” during the sing-along special. She recorded the Grammy-nominated song for Disney’s Zootopia.
The 43-year-old Colombian superstar voiced the character of Gazellein the film, and her character performed the track in the end credits.
Other artists recruited by Disney for the special, to be broadcast during the Mother’s Day, include Donald Glover, Halsey, Ben Platt and Chloe x Halle.
Audiences will be able to stream The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II on Disney+at a later, unconfirmed date.
The musical special plans to not just celebrate families, but nourish them too by raising awareness for Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, which supports people across the U.S. facing hunger amid the pandemic.
