David Fumero Lands Role on Spectrum’s “Bad Boys” Spinoff Series “L.A.’s Finest”

It’s a Finest hour for David Fumero

The 45-year-old Cuban actor has landed a recurring roles on L.A.’s Finest, Spectrum’s 13-episode series starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.

David Fumero

The spinoff from the Bad Boys movie franchise hails from writers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, Sony Pictures Television, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and 2.0 Entertainment.

It follows Burnett (Union), who last was seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel. She now has left her complicated past behind to become an LAPD detective. Paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mom with an equally complex past, Burnett is pushed to examine whether her unapologetic lifestyle might be masking a greater personal secret. These two women don’t agree on much, but they find common ground when it comes to taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles.

Fumero will play Lt. Jason Calloway, an LAPD lieutenant with the Narcotics Division. He and Syd had a one-night stand that colors their occasionally adversarial relationship around the office. A good cop and a total pro; not above arresting any cop who crosses the line.

Union and Alba executive produce alongside co-showrunners Margolis, Sonnier, and Pam Veasey.

Fumero was a series regular on the Starz drama Power.

Fumero, who first began as an international fashion model for such fashion powerhouses as Versace, Armani, John-Paul Gauthier, and Dior, rose to fame on the ABCsoap opera One Life to Live.

Jessica Alba LA's Finest

From writers Brandon Margolis and Brandon SonnierSony Pictures Television, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and 2.0 Entertainment, the series is set to premiere in 2019 exclusively on Charter’s Spectrum as the platform’s first major original series.

The series follows Burnett (Union), who last was seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel.

The cast also includes Ernie Hudsonas Joseph Burnett, Zack Gilford and Duane Martin as Ben Walker and Ben Baines, and Ryan McPartlin as Patrick McKenna.

Sony Television took out the action pilot, a spinoff from the Bad Boys movie franchise, immediately after the project’s original network, NBC, passed on it.

Charter Communications quickly emerged as a likely potential home, starting talks with Sony just days later. With the deal in advanced stages, Sony Television has been selling LA’s Finest internationally.

“Charter has a strong passion for the project, and we could not be more excited,” ” said Jeff Frost, President of Sony Pictures Television. “Immediately we knew this innovative new platform was absolutely the right home for L.A.’s Finest.”

With its title recognition and A-list stars, L.A.’s Finest will be used as a key launching piece in Charter Communications’s recently announced strategy to introduce high-end original content on its Spectrum cable systems. The company signaled its entrance in the original scripted series arena by signing co-production deals with AMC Networks and Viacomand by hiring seasoned TV executive Katherine Pope to lead its original content efforts by securing rights on a cost-effective basis. Charter already produces programming via its regional sports networks and its exclusive Spectrum News services.

With elaborate action sequences, LA’s Finest was one of the highest-profile and most expensive pilots this season, with its budget said to be around $12 million. It is based upon the character Syd Burnett, originally created for Bad Boys II by Marianne and Cormac Wibberley and Ron Shelton and played by Union in the 2003 movie.

Union and Alba executive produce.

Alba Named to Fortune’s 40 Under 40 List

It’s a fantastic fortune moment for Jessica Alba

The 34-year-old half-Mexican American actress and entrepreneur has been named to Fortune’s 2015 40 Under 40 list, the magazine’s annual ranking of the most influential young people in business.

Jessica Alba

As an expectant mom, Alba – ranked No. 15 on the list – saw a void in the market for less toxic, more sustainable household goods. The Honest Company is rapidly filling that void. Last year, Alba’s company sold some $170 million worth of products like diapers and cleaning supplies in outlets like Costco, Target, Whole Foods and Nordstrom—nearly a threefold increase over 2013.

Now, Alba is looking to expand The Honest Company’s presence into new regions—South Korea is next and China is in the works.

She’s also expanding the company’s portfolio of products with Honest Beauty, a cosmetics and skin-care line launched earlier this month.

But Alba isn’t the only fortunate Latino to make the list…

Hugo Barra comes on at No. 14.

Years after initially getting turned down for a job at Google, the Brazil-born businessman found himself in a plum perch leading the search giant’s mobile aspirations as vice president of Android.

It came as a surprise when in late 2013 Barra announced he was leaving Google for the then relatively unknown Chinese startup Xiaomi, valued at $46 billion.

As vice president, Barra is responsible for leading the company into uncharted territory by ushering its inexpensive products to new international markets—growth areas that are more critical than ever for Xiaomi as China’s smartphone penetration reaches all time highs.

Alba’s Honest Company to Offer New Moms 16 Weeks Paid Maternity Leave

Jessica Alba is taking a stand for mothers (and fathers) at the her own company…

The 34-year-old half-Mexican American actress and entrepreneur has revealed that her Honest Company will be offering new mothers 16 weeks of paid maternity leave, starting in 2016.

thr_jessica_alba_main

Alba, who co-founded the company, announced the news at the Dreamforce conference in San Francisco on Thursday.

“It will pay for itself,” she said, according to reporters in the audience. New fathers at Honest Company will be offered eight weeks paid paternity leave (with an option to extend for another 8 weeks unpaid).

The paid parental leave The Honest Company is offering is well-above the nation’s average.

The Family and Medical Leave Act requires companies of a certain size to give their employees 12 weeks unpaid parental leave. Paid leave is up to individual employers to decide. The Department of Labor reports only 12% of Americans working in the private sector have access to paid family leave through their employer.

“I love when we hire people who are parents, because I know they are going to multitask,” Alba said, according to NBC,  garnering applause from the audience.
