Oscar Isaac Attached to Star in Sony Pictures’ Film Adaptation of Konami’s “Metal Gear Solid” Video Game

Oscar Isaac has landed a solid role…

Sony Pictures’ long-awaited Metal Gear Solid adaptation looks to have gained some major momentum as the 41-year-old Guatemalan & Cuban actor has been attached to play Solid Snake in the film.

The film is currently in development at Sony with Jordan Vogt-Roberts on board to direct.

The film is based on the Metal Gear Solid video game created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. The script is written by Derek Connolly. Avi Arad is producing. Peter Kang is the executive overseeing for the studio.

The game was first launched on PlayStation in 1998 and follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit. The game has received acclaimed on many fronts, but its storytelling that has a cinematic feel always made it seem like a movie adaptation was inevitable.

Given Isaac’s extremely busy schedule, a production start date is still unknown, but his involvement makes the property a high priority for the studio going forward. As for Isaac, Metal Gear Solid could give him another major franchise, having already starred in the most recent Star Wars franchise.

Even as the industry slowly gets back into production due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Isaac has been busy setting his future slate in recent months. He is set to star in HBO’s Scenes From a Marriage opposite Jessica Chastain, followed by playing the title role in Marvel’s Moon Knight for Disney+.

Isaac will next be seen in the much-anticipated reboot of Dune and Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter. He’s also set to star in and produce the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn’s Ex Machina comic retitled The Great Machine and star in Barry Levinson’s Francis and The Godfather, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

AppleTV+ Releases First Trailer for “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special”

Mariah Carey is bringing the Magic this holiday season…

AppleTV+ has release the trailer and key art for the half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer’s Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, which will start streaming on December 4.

The show will feature Carey, the unofficial Queen of Christmas, with Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland and Mykal-Michelle Harris, as well as Carey’s 9-year-old twins, son Moroccan and daughter Monroe.

The special finds the world faced with a holiday cheer crisis, which the North Pole knows only one person can solve: Santa’s great friend, Mariah Carey. Combining musical performances, dancing and animation, the show finds Carey saving the day.

The soundtrack single and new music video for “Oh Santa!,” co-written by and featuring Carey performing with Grande and Hudson, will be distributed by Sony Music and released on Apple Music and other streaming platforms December 4.

The companion soundtrack to the special will include Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri as additional musical guests, in addition to a new version of “Sleigh Ride.” The soundtrack will be available exclusively on Apple Music on December 4, and all other platforms December 11.

The Apple TV+ subscription service is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung, LG, Sony, and VIZIO smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and at tv.apple.com.

Selena Gomez to Produce & Possibly Star in STXfilms’ Psychological Thriller “Dollhouse”

Selena Gomez is entering the dollhouse…

The 28-year-old Mexican American singer/actress has boarded STXfilms’ psychological thriller Dollhouse as a producer with an eye to also star.

The project is billed as being in the vein of Black Swan.

Gomez will produce through her July Moon Productions along with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. A search is underway for a director for the script penned by Michael Paisley set in the upper echelon of New York City’s fashion scene.

“Selena’s involvement is an exciting direction for this project. She is supremely talented as both a star and a producer,” sayid STX films Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson. “Teaming Selena with Shawn and Dan’s expertise in the horror-thriller genre will elevate Dollhouse and we couldn’t be more thrilled by the way this is being developed.”

Gomez recently served as executive producer on Tri-Star’s romantic comedy Broken Hearts Gallery. She signed on to reprise her lead female role in Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 4 and will also executive produce. She can currently be seen on her HBO Max cooking series Selena+Chef, which she executive produces. Gomez will produce and star opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

Her feature acting credits include The Dead Don’t Die, The Big Short, and the Netflix original Fundamentals of Caring.

Gomez also executive produced Living Undocumented and the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

Eva Noblezada Signs with United Talent Agency (UTA)

Eva Noblezada has new representation…

United Talent Agency (UTA) has signed the 24-year-old half-Mexican American actress and Broadway star in all areas.

Noblezada can be seen starring in Sony’s musical drama, Yellow Rose, marking her feature film debut. The project was theatrically released worldwide onFriday. She plays the titular role of ‘Rose,’ a Filipino teen from a small Texas town who, while facing the threat of deportation, continues to fight for her dream as a country music star.

On Broadway, she made her debut as the title role in the revival of Miss Saigon, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.

She also starred in Hadestown, which made her one of just a handful of actors to receive Tony nominations for their first two Broadway roles.

She received a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for her work on the show.

Mariah Carey Reveals Secret ’90s Alt-Rock Album

Mariah Carey has exposed her inner rocker persona…

The 50-year-old half-Venezuelan American songstress revealed in an excerpt from her recently release memoir that she secretly made an alternative rock album during the sessions for her 1995 LP Daydream.

“Fun fact: I did an alternative album while I was making Daydream,” Carey tweeted Sunday. “Just for laughs, but it got me through some dark days.”

In The Meaning of Mariah Carey excerpt the singer posted, she wrote of the secret LP, “I’d bring my little alt-rock song to the band and hum a silly guitar riff. They would pick it up and we would record it immediately. It was irreverent, raw, and urgent, and the band got into it. I actually started to love some of the songs. I would fully commit to my character.”

She continued, “I was playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light white female singers who were popular at the time. You know the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image. They could be angry, angsty, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled slips, and unruly eyebrows, while every movie I made was so calculated and manicured. I wanted to break free, let loose, and express my misery — but I also wanted to laugh. I totally looked forward to doing my alter-ego band sessions after Daydream each night.”

The excerpt also features a 40-second snippet of music as well as the artwork for Chick’s Someone’s Ugly Daughter, an actual album released in 1995 on 550 Music, which operated under the Sony/Columbia umbrella (Carey’s label at the time).

While Carey is uncredited on the Chick album, the Someone’s Ugly Daughter liner notes, according to AllMusic, list Jay Healy and Dana Jon Chapelle as the album’s engineers; Healy is a frequent Carey collaborator, serving as engineer on both Daydream (which Carey recorded at the same time) and its 1997 follow-up Fantasy.

Following the one album, Chick never released any further music, although the band did shoot some Carey-less music videos.

Wagner Moura Signs with William Morris Endeavor (WME)

The 44-year-old Brazilian actor, filmmaker, musician and journalist has signed with William Morris Endeavor (WME).

Moura, a Golden Globe nominee for his role as Pablo Escobar in the Netflix acclaimed series Narcos, was previously represented by UTA.

He can currently be seen starring in two Netflix films; Sergio, which he also produced, and Wasp Network, opposite Penelope Cruz and Gael Garcia Bernal.

Wagner made his directorial debut with Marighella, which premiered at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival.

His other credits include Walter Salles’ Behind The Sun for Miramax, Sony’s Elysium, opposite Matt Damon, and Jose Padilha’s Elite Squad, which won the Golden Bear at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival.

Jared Leto In Talks to Star in Ridley Scott’s Next Project “Gucci”

It looks like Jared Leto could be landing a fashionable new role…

Ridley Scott is reportedly in talks with the 48-year-old part-Spanish American Oscar-winning actor/singer to star in his next project, MGM’s Gucci.

Leto forms part of Scott’s all-star cast wish list that includes Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney.

Lady Gaga is already attached to star as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was tried and convicted of orchestrating his assassination on the steps of his office in 1995. She served 18 years in jail before being let out in 2016.

Maurizio had two daughters with Reggiani, but he left her for another woman. She’d had a brain tumor removed, and her children blamed it for her actions; the media took a darker view of her during a sensationalized affair, depicting her as a hot-blooded woman scorned and dubbing her “Black Widow.” She was originally handed a sentence of 29 years.

It’s Gaga’s first starring role since her Best Actress Oscar nomination in 2018’s A Star Is Born. She won an Academy Award for writing the song “Shallow.”

MGM landed the rights to the film back in April with plans to go into production after Scott finishes shooting his current project The Last Duel.

Scott’s partner Giannina Scott long has been passionate about the cinematic prospects for a film about the tumultuous Gucci family’s fashion dynasty and the murder of the grandson of founder Guccio Gucci.

The Gucci murder tale is scripted by Roberto Bentivegna, based on Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed.

Leto, who won multiple awards, including an Oscar, for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, will next appear in Sony’s Morbius.

Claudia Brant Returning to Sony/ATV Music Publishing

Claudia Brant’s music will have a broader audience…

The 51-year-old Argentine singer-songwriter has signed a global publishing administration agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Brant, whose credits include Luis Fonsi’s “No me doy por vencido” and Ricky Martin’s “Lo mejor de mi vida eres tu,” is one of a few prominent female songwriters in Latin music.

She returns to Sony/ATV after a stint at Universal Music Publishing Group.

“With over two thousand songs recorded, multiple awards, and 30 years of my life dedicated to songwriting, it’s clear to me now that Sony/ATV is where I belong,” said Brant in a statement. “It is my honor to be a part of this publishing powerhouse where songwriters are not only heard and understood but respected and taken care of. I am looking forward to getting back to work with my friend Jorge Mejia, whose hard work and dedication has greatly impacted my career. Moreover, I am thrilled to find new opportunities for my music under the guidance of the amazing Jon Platt and his team, both in the United States as well as internationally. I’m so glad to finally be back home.”

Brant has songwriting credits with many of Latin music’s biggest stars and beyond, including Camila Cabello, Fifth Harmony, Reik, Il Volo and CNCO.

She was also inducted into the Latin Songwriter’s Hall of Famein 2016 and is a National Trustee board member for The Recording Academy. She won a Grammy award for Best Latin Pop Album in 2019.

Her deal with Sony/ATV encompasses her prior catalog with the publisher.

Most recently, she created “Canción de Autor Oficial,” a non-profit whose aim is to promote songwriters’ craft and rights. The organization teamed up with MusiCares for a live event concert series to raise money for the COVID-19 relief fund.

Jorge Mejia, Sony/ATV president and CEO for Latin America and US Latin said in a statement: “I have known and worked with Claudia for years, and I couldn’t admire her more for the uncommon dedication, commitment, and respect she brings to her craft. She is the consummate songwriter (not to mention mother, artist, songwriter advocate, the list goes on). Sony/ATV is lucky to be able to welcome her back home.”

Sky Rompiendo Signs Exclusive Multi-Year Worldwide Deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing

Sky Rompiendo is switching alliances…

Sony/ATV Music Publishing entered an exclusive multi-year worldwide publishing agreement with the Colombian producer and songwriter.

Formerly signed to Warner Chappell Music, Sky Rompiendo joins Sony’s roster as his career is on the rise.

“This is a new challenge,” Sky said about the deal. “With the experience I have gained over the years coupled with this new alliance, I hope that I will be able to discover just how far music will take me.”

J Balvin‘s executive producer and longtime collaborator, Sky produced Balvin’s Colores, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard‘sTop Latin Albums chart and debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard 200.

“Sky is one of the foremost producers and songwriters working in music today,” said Jorge Mejía, president and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing’s Latin American and U.S. Latin. “We are honored to have him join our family, and are so looking forward to being part of what’s next!”

Currently, the five-time Latin Grammy-winning producer is working with Rosalía, Manuel Turizo and Nicky Jam, among others.

Most recently, the chart-topping producer co-produced Rosalía and Travis Scott‘s “TKN,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated June 13.

Ana de Armas’ Bond Debut Delayed as “No Time to Die” Release Moved to November Due to Coronavirus

Ana de Armas’ big Bonddebut will have to wait…

With the coronavirus affecting the box office, MGM, Eon and Universal are postponing the next James Bondmovie, No Time to Die from its UK and international release date of April 2 and its U.S. Easter weekend global day-and-date of April 10.

The 25th 007movie will now open on November 25, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

“MGM, Universal and Bond producers, Michael G Wilsonand Barbara Broccoli, announced today that after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of No Time to Diewill be postponed until November 2020. The film will be released in the U.K. on November 12, 2020 with worldwide release dates to follow, including the U.S. launch on November 25, 2020,” said a statement given exclusively to Deadline by the three studios.

The decision to move the film to November is purely an economic decision, and not one based on growing fears over the coronavirus.

Bond is a day-and-date worldwide release, and with the franchise back in the hands of MGM fully post Sony’s distribution of the last four Daniel Craigmovies, along with Universal, all parties involved need to have all foreign territories working at their maximum in order for the latest Bond to be a continued box office success. For a tentpole of this size and scope, that kind of decrease in business would have a significant and detrimental impact on the film’s ultimate global take.

All together, the last four Craig 007 movies – Spectre, Skyfall, Quantum of Solaceand Casino Royale— have grossed $3.2B in the overall near $7B franchise, with Skyfallbeing the highest grossing film of all-time in the 58-year-old series at a whopping $1.1B. Failing at the box office is not an option for Bond, and for the studios to stick to their original release plan would be a disservice to their partners in exhibition.

No Time to Die features Craig in his fifth and final outing as the fictional MI6 agent. It’s directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga from a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Fukunaga and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz and Ralph Fiennes reprise their roles from previous films, with de Armas, who portrays Paloma, a CIA agent assisting Bond, joining the cast. Other new additions include Rami Malek, Lashana Lynch, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik and Billy Magnussen.
