Season Two of George Lopez’s NBC Series, “Lopez vs. Lopez,” To Premiere in April

George Lopez is pulling a television double…

NBC is set to premiere the second season of the 62-year-old Mexican American comedian/actor’s Lopez vs. Lopez  on Tuesday, April 2 with back-to-back episodes at 8:00 and 8:30 pm and continue in those timeslots going forward.

George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Lopez vs. LopezLopez vs. Lopez, which hails from creator/showrunner Debby Wolfe, is a working-class family comedy about dysfunction, reconnection and all the pain and joy in between. Starring Lopez and his daughter Mayan Lopez, the comedy tells the story of a working-class old-school Latino who moves in with his modern Gen Z daughter as they rebuild their dysfunctional relationship one argument at a time.

It also stars Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively and Al Madrigal.

Season 2 guests include Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, Diana Maria Riva and Marshawn Lynch.

Creator/showrunner Wolfe executive produces with Bruce Helford, George Lopez, Michael Rotenberg and Katie Newman.

Lopez vs Lopez is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Mohawk Productions, Travieso Productions, Mi Vida Loba and 3 Arts.

Iglesias will portray Iggy, George’s fun-loving, jort-wearing, oversharing AA sponsor. When George and Mayan struggle with George’s sobriety, Iggy is there to offer sage advice and big warm hugs.

Riva as Ola, a tough negotiator known for selling the best knock-off TVs at the local swap meet. She isn’t afraid to tell anyone adios, especially her long-standing rival, George Lopez. Who will win the battle of discount electronics?

Kid Cudi is preparing for a Super performance…

FanDuel is partnering with Spotify this year for its annual Super Bowl party, with the 40-year-old part-Mexican American singer, songwriter and actor co-headlining alongside Calvin Harris.

Kid CudiThe 2024 FanDuel Super Bowl Party powered by Spotify — which will be held at LIV inside the Las Vegas Strip’s newest resort, Fontainebleau Las Vegas, on Friday night, February 9 — is the company’s third annual Super Bowl event and will feature a live recording of The Ringer Gambling Show podcast with hosts John “JJ” Jastremski, Raheem Palmer and “Cousin Sal” Iacono.

On January 12, Kid Cudi released his ninth studio album, Insano, which features collaborations with Travis Scott, ASAP Rocky, Lil Yachty, Pharrell Williams, the late XXXTentacion, Lil Wayne and Young Thug.

The project debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart dated January 27.

The event comes just two days before Super Bowl LVIII at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium on Sunday (February 11), where the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers for the championship.

It was announced in September that Usher would headline the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show. Usher also announced that his ninth album, Coming Home, will arrive on Super Bowl Sunday. This set marks his first new album since 2016’s Hard II Love, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

Gente de Zona Named Kings of Carnaval Miami 2024

Gene de Zona is preparing for a royal Carnaval experience in South Florida.

Kiwanis Club of Little Havana unveiled the official event schedule for Carnaval Miami 2024, with the Cuban reggaeton duo set to participate.

Gente de ZonaJoined by Kiwanis board members and sponsors, the organization’s president Pablo Lau announced during a press conference this week this year’s Kings of Carnaval Miami is the Latin Grammy-winning duo.

The longtime event consists of live music, paintings, crafts, photography and jewelry for a cultural experience.

Carnaval Miami 2024 officially kicks off on February 10 and will wrap a month later with the Calle Ocho Music Festival, which will include a special performance by Gente de Zona.

Christina Aguilera to Serve as Presenter at This Year’s Grammy Awards Show

Christina Aguilera has a date with Grammy…

The half-Ecuadorian American Grammy-wining singer will serve as a presenter at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Christina AguileraAguilera appears on a list of presenters that includes Samara Joy, Lenny Kravitz, Maluma, Lionel Richie, Mark Ronson, Meryl Streep, Taylor Tomlinson and Oprah Winfrey are set to present on the 2024 Grammy Awards, set for Sunday, Feb. 4.

Joy was the surprise winner of last year’s award for best new artist. Aguilera won in that same category 24 years ago.

Ronson, a seven-time Grammy-winner, received five nominations this year for his work on Barbie.

Richie won album of the year 39 years ago for Can’t Slow Down. He won song of the year the year after that for “We Are the World,” which he co-wrote with Michael Jackson.

Streep is nominated for best audio book, narration and storytelling recording for Big Tree. This is her seventh nomination. Streep has won three Oscars and three Primetime Emmys, but she has yet to win a Grammy (or a Tony).

Maluma received his third Grammy nod this year – best Latin pop album for Don Juan.

Additional performers will be announced in the coming days.

It’s unknown whether Taylor Swift will perform, though CBS has promoted the fact that she will be “in the building” to accept any awards she may win.

U2 is set to take the stage from Sphere in Las Vegas, where the band’s acclaimed U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere show is playing.

Trevor Noah will host the Grammys for the fourth consecutive year.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 4, live on both coasts beginning at 8:00 pm ET on CBS, and will stream live and on-demand on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the special airs).

The telecast will be produced by Fulwell 73 Productions for the Recording Academy for the fourth consecutive year. Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor and Jesse Collins are executive producers.

Rafael Nadal’s 2007 French Open Tennis Racket Sells for $118K in Auction

The 37-year-old Spanish professional tennis player and former World No. 1’s racket from his 2007 French Open final victory over Roger Federer was sold for more than $118,000 at an auction Monday, ranking among the highest-priced memorabilia.

Rafael NadalNadal beat Federer 6-3 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the 2007 final at Roland Garros with the Babolat AeroPro Drive racket to win his third Grand Slam title before the Spaniard moved on to secure 19 more — 14 of them in Paris– to become one of the sport’s greatest players.

The racket, which Nadal also used in previous matches at the tournament, including his semifinal victory against Novak Djokovic, sold for $118,206 at an online auction, Prestige Memorabilia‘s The Tennis Auction, that closed on Monday.

It was previously housed in the Australian Tennis Museum prior to its recent closure.

Previous highest individual tennis racket auction sales include Nadal’s 2022 Australian Open racket ($139,700), Billie Jean King‘s “Battle of the Sexes” racket ($125,000) and Djokovic’s 2016 French Open racket ($107,482).

Nadal missed the recent Australian Open this month after suffering a small muscle tear during his comeback from a long injury layoff at the Brisbane International earlier in January.

He, however, is set to return on the court in February during the ATP 250 tournament in Doha.

Los Lobos to Be Inducted Into California Hall of Fame

Los Lobos will forever be The Golden State all-stars…

The Mexican-American Grammy-winning rock band from East Los Angeles will be among the honorees inducted into the California Hall of Fame next week, joining the likes of The Go-Gos, and Ava Duvernay.

Los LobosLos Lobos rose to international stardom in 1987, when their version of Ritchie Valens‘ “La Bamba” peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the charts in the United Kingdom, and several other countries. They are also known for performing the theme song for Handy Manny.

Songs by Los Lobos have been recorded by Elvis Costello, Waylon Jennings, Frankie Yankovic and Robert Plant.

In 2015, they were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2018, they were inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame.

Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom will headline a ceremony at the California Museum on February 6.

Other inductees include master chef Helene An, former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, computer scientist Vinton Cerf, federal judge and civil rights leader Thelton E. Henderson, basketball player and sports broadcaster Cheryl Miller, former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and artistic director and choreographer Brenda Way.

The inductees will be the 17th class of individuals to receive the honors, which were started by then-California First Lady Maria Shriver.

Lulu Garcia-Navarro Joins CNN as On-Air Contributor & Panelist

Lulu Garcia-Navarro is headed to CNN…

The Cuban and Panamanian journalist and podcast host has joined the cable news network as an on-air contributor and panelist on The Chris Wallace Show.

Lulu Garcia-NavarroGarcia-Navarro is from The New York Times Magazine, where she is launching a new interview franchise.

She previously worked at NPR as a host and was a longtime international correspondent.

Her coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and her vivid dispatches of the Arab Spring uprisings brought Garcia-Navarro wide acclaim and five awards in 2012, including the Edward R. Murrow and Peabody Awards for her coverage of the Libyan revolt.

Her series on the Amazon rainforest was a Peabody finalist and won an Edward R. Murrow award for best news series.

She has previously appeared on The Chris Wallace Show, which launched in November on Saturday mornings.

She will be part of a rotating group of panelists.

America Ferrera Earns First Career Oscar Nomination for “Barbie” Performance

America Ferrera is celebrating a special first…

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the nominees for the 96th Academy Awards, with the 39-year-old Honduran American actress earning her first-ever nod.

Ferrara is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Gloria, a Mattel employee who befriends Barbie in Barbie.

Ferrera’s nomination came as a surprise to some. Despite an acclaimed performance in the film, She wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe or a SAG Award in the category. She did, however, receive a Critics Choice Award nomination and received the See Her Award at the Critics Choice Awards.

In Barbie, Ferrera delivers a monologue about the challenging expectations of being a woman, which was widely shared on social media — the hashtags #barbiemonologue and #barbiespeech each garnering more than 10 million views on TikTok, with many recreating the powerful speech.

But Ferrera isn’t the only Latinx artist nominated…

Colman Domingo has received his first Oscar nod.

The 54-year-old Belizean-Guatemalan American actor earned the nomination in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category for playing the title character in Rustin, Netflix’s biopic about the gay Black civil rights leader Bayard Rustin, an adviser to Martin Luther King Jr. and the architect of the 1963 March on Washington.

Domingo is only the second openly gay man to earn an Oscar nomination for playing a gay character, following the 1999 nomination of Ian McKellen for his leading role in Gods and Monsters.

J.A. Bayona has earned his first Oscar nod.

The 48-year-old Spanish filmmaker earned a nod for Best International Feature Film for Spain’s Society of the Snow.

Other Hispanic nominees include Pablo Berger, Ibon Cormenzana, Ignasi Estapé and Sandra Tapia Díaz in the Best Animated Feature Film category for Robot Dreams; Rodrigo Prieto for Best Cinematography for Killers of the Flower Moon; and Ana López-Puigcerver, David Martí and Montse Ribé for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Society of the Snow.

Oppenheimer received the most nominations for the 2024 Oscars,with 13 nods.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2024 Oscars, which will be held March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

Jacob Elordi Earns Career-First BAFTA Film Awards Nod for “Saltburn” Performance

Jacob Elordi has another chance to win at this year’s BAFTAs.

The 26-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor and Saltburn star, a previously revealed nominee for the BAFTA Film Rising Star Award, has earned his first-ever BAFTA nomination from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

Jacob Elordi,Elordi earned the nod in the Supporting Actor category for his work in Saltburn.

But he isn’t the only Latinx actor to earn a first BAFTA nod.

Colman Domingo is nominated in the Leading Actor category.

The 54-year-old Belizean-Guatemalan American actor is nominated for his performance in Netflix’s Rustin.

Rodrigo Prieto is nominated in the Cinematography category.

The 58-year-old Mexican cinematographer, previously nominated three times for a BAFTA, earned this year’s nod for his work on Killers of the Flower Moon.

J.A. Bayona, the Spanish filmmaker, is nominated in the Film Not in the English Language category for directing Society of the Snow. It’s his first BAFTA nod.

Winners will be announced at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards ceremony, hosted by actor David Tennant on February 18 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.

David Archuleta Earns GLAAD Media Awards Nomination for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist

David Archuleta is breaking through…

GLAAD has released the nominees for the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards, with the 33-year-old half-Honduran and part-Spanish American singer and former American Idol runner-up earning a nod.

David ArchuletaArchuleta, who competed in the ninth season of The Masked Singer as “Macaw” and finished in second place, is nominated for the non-profit LGBTQ advocacy organization’s Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist award.

Archuleta is competing against another Latinx artist.

Ice Spice is also up for Breakthrough Music Artist.

In 2023, Time magazine described the 24-year-old half-Dominican American rapper as a “breakout star.” Publications such as The New York Times and Billboard have dubbed her “rap’s new princess.” The Grammy-nominated artist has been honored with the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, and the Impact Award from the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.

The winning LGBTQ stories and artists will be honored at GLAAD’s dual 2024 ceremonies on March 14 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and May 11 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City. The 33 categories span film, TV, music, theater, podcasts, video games, comic books and journalism.

Presented since 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. “At a time when the LGBTQ community is under attack by false narratives and misinformation … the stakes have never been higher to maintain the progress of LGBTQ visibility and representation across all media, from film, television, music, journalism, publishing and more,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.
