Calibre 50 Earns 10th No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Song Chart with “Corrido de Juanito”

The award-winning Mexican quartet has earned its 10th No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Songs airplay chart (dated October 28) as “Corrido de Juanito” ascends 2-1 in its ninth charting frame.

The track earns 10 million in audience (up five percent) in the week ending October 15, according to Nielsen Music.

The song bumps Christian Nodal’s “Probablemente,” featuring David Bisbal, to No. 2, after a four-week run at No. 1. “Probablemente” is down 4 percent to 9.9 million in audience.

Calibre 50’s topical single — which is about a Mexican migrant’s struggles and is featured on the group’s new album, Guerra de Poder — concurrently holds a spot in the top 10 on the Hot Latin Songs chart for a seventh week, dipping 7-8 and hiking 4 percent in airplay in the tracking week ending Oct. 12. The song is Calibre 50’s ninth top 10 on the ranking.

Further, the song’s music video has collected over 45 million global views on YouTube since its posting on August 23.

Christian Nodal’s Debut Album Opens at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums Chart

The 18-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter’s debut album Me Deje Llevar has opened at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart with 9,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending August 31, according to Nielsen Music.

In addition, Nodal also arrives at No. 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart.

Of the total sum, 6,000 were in traditional album sales, helping Nodal also open at No. 2 on the Latin Album Sales chart.

Concurrently, Nodal’s second single “Probablemente,” featuring David Bisbal, rises 25-20 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.

Nodal’s first hit, “Adios Amor,” reached No. 4 in February.

Bisbal to Perform at London’s The O2’s First Latin-Focused Festival “Hola! London”

The 37-year-old Spanish singer is among the artists scheduled to perform at London arena The O2’s first-ever Latin-focused festival.

Hola! London, set for July 22, will feature free music stages and Latin and Spanish food stands outside of the arena. The O2 has partnered with London Latin concert promoter Como No to produce the festival.

In addition to Bisbal, the lineup of Latin music stars includes Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes and Colombian newcomer Sebastián Yatra.

“London has a huge and growing Latin American community,” the Hola! London organizers said in a press release. “With the increasing impact of Latin artists on the musical world and the desire for more Latin music experiences, The O2, in association with Como No, launch this new event that celebrates the river of Latin music that runs through the heart of London.”

The O2’s upcoming events also include concerts from Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Metallica.

Jesse & Joy Among Acts Scheduled to Perform at Juan Gabriel Tribute Concert

The Latin Grammy-winning Mexican duo, comprised of Jesse Huerta and his sister Joy Huerta, have joined the star-studded roster for the tribute concert for the late Juan GabrielEternamente Juan Gabriel, taking place on February 18.

In addition to Jesse & Joy, the lineup includes Juanes, David BisbalPepe Aguilar, Natalia Laforurcade and Luis Fonsi.

The official event poster with the artists performing at Foro Pegaso in the State of Mexico has been shared over social media.

Other confirmed singers include Yuri, EmmanuelIndia, Shaila Dúrcal, Yuridia, Kinky, John Fogerty, Aída Cuevas, Fernando de la Mora and Andrea Bocelli.

In a video shared on Gabriel’s official Twitter account, Juanes invites his fans to join him for a “heartfelt tribute” honoring the late singer.

Eternamente Juan Gabriel was announced by the chart-topping artist’s family back in December.

“We have the support of Mexico’s government to produce something of high quality, just like the concerts my father gave us,” the singer’s son, Iván Aguilera, said in a press conference. “It will be something very special where people will be able to relive the experience of watching their idol Juan Gabriel.”

Gustavo Farias, musical producer for the tribute concert, offered details about the production, teasing a “very big surprise”: “During performances, we will be showing images of Juan Gabriel but we have a very, very big surprise. I can’t say much yet but we will be using high quality technology.”

The 37-year-old Spanish Grammy nominated singer-songwriter will perform at a special tribute concert for the late Juan Gabriel.

The homage, entitled Eternamente Juan Gabriel, will take place on February 18 at Foro Pegaso in the State of Mexico, with tickets going on sale in January.

The concert details, revealed four months after the death of Mexican music icon, were announced by Gabriel’s son Iván Aguilera during a press conference in Mexico.

Aguilera said the ambitious tribute concert will the first of many they plan to produce in Mexico and other countries.

“We are here to announce the first official concert that our family is planning in honor of my father Juan Gabriel. We have the support of Mexico’s government to produce something of high quality, just like the concerts my father gave us … It will be something very special where people will be able to relive the experience of watching their idol Juan Gabriel.”

In addition to Durcal, the daughter of the late Rocio Durcal, who collaborated with Gabriel several times throughout their music careers, artists set to participate include JuanesJesse & JoyDavid BisbalNatalia Lafourcade and Aída Cuevas, among others. Gustavo Farias will serve as musical producer.

“During performances, we will be showing images of Juan Gabriel but we have a very very big surprise. I can’t say much yet but we will be using high quality technology,” Farias said hinting at a possible Juan Gabriel hologram for the concert.

Eternamente Juan Gabriel follows the special tribute that took place back in September in Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes just days after the “Amor eterno” singer passed away in Santa Monica, California at the age of 66 on August 28.

Rubio Releases New Single “Me quema”

The 45-year-old Mexican singer has debuted her brand new single “Me quema,” while sharing a fun video to go along with it.

Cruising around the streets of Mexico City wearing a Little Black Dress with champagne in hand, Rubio becomes the ultimate playgirl, and proves she’s mastered the art of seduction.

“Me quema” is the third single from Rubio’s forthcoming album, due next year.

The upbeat track was written by Colombian band Morat, who were featured on Rubio’s “Mi nuevo vicio,” which peaked at No. 12 on Billboard‘s Latin Pop Airplay chart (dated May 2, 2015).

Currently, Rubio is a judge on Mexico’s singing competition La Apuesta alongside Pepe Aguilar and David Bisbal.

Juanes to Perform at the Inaugural Universal Music Festival in Madrid

It’s about to get (Teatro) Real for Juanes

The 42-year-old Colombian rockero will perform at Universal Music Spain’s inaugural Universal Music Festival in Madrid.

The label, in tandem with Spanish management/entertainment companies LaRock Entertainment and Concert Tour, will host the festival from July 20-27.

In addition to Juanes, the Universal Music Festival will include performances by Elton JohnCaetano Veloso and Gilberto GilRaphaelMiguel Poveda and flamenco act El Barrio.

The fest will take place in Madrid’s Teatro Real, a 1,700 seat venue usually used for opera, ballet or classical music.

In this case, the music leans toward more thoughtful pop, with Elton John opening with his “Solo Piano Show” July 20.

On July 21, Veloso and Gil will share the stage accompanied only by their respective guitars in an evening dubbed “Two Friends, One Century of Music.”  On July 22, it’s flamboyant Spanish singer Raphael with his new project, “Simphonico,” where he performs his greatest hits backed by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra.

Flamenco singer Miguel Poveda will perform his versions of poetry by the likes of Quevedo, Rafael de León, García Lorca, Borges, Miguel Hernández and Pablo Neruda, and on July 24, Juanes will perform as part of his Loco de Amor tour. The fest ends July 27 with a performance by flamenco act El Barrio.

While Universal Music Festival in Madrid is organized by Universal Music Spain, it falls under Universal Music Latin America/Iberian Penninsula’s larger attempt to broaden its scope of action. The company already has a management/booking arm, GTS — whose roster includes David Bisbal and Bustamante, among other Universal acts — which has been booking shows throughout Latin America, Spain and the U.S.

Bisbal to be Honored at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards

The 35-year-old Latin pop star will receive special honors during ASCAP‘s 23rd annual Latin Music Awards.

Bisbal is receiving ASCAP’s Voice of Music Award, given to artists whose music represents the spirit of a generation. Past honorees include Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks and Luis Fonsi.

Mexican singer/songwriter Mario Domm, the lead singer for Camila and also the author of many hits for other acts, will receive the Golden Note Award, given to songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones. Past recipients include Jose Feliciano, Victor Manuelle and Pharrell Williams.

Regional Mexican group La Original Banda El Limon de Salvador Lizarraga will receive the ASCAP Latin Heritage Award, presented to music creators in recognition for their unique and enduring contributions to Latin music. Past recipients include Ricardo Arjona, Celia Cruz and Alejandro Sanz.

The awards will also honor top Latin publishers and songwriters of 2014, with awards given to the Songwriter of the year, Publisher of the year, Independent publisher of the year and Latin song of the year, as well as awards in pop, tropical, regional Mexican, urban and television categories.

The dinner ceremony will take place March 11 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Freixenet Releases New Ad Featuring Bisbal’s New English Song “Closer Tonight”

The 35-year-old Spanish pop star has released his new English-language song “Closer Tonight” in a New Year’s Eve ad for Freixenet. The track with a jazz hot vibe will be included on a gold edition of his album Tu y Yo, which is set for release on December 9.

In a black tie and with his signature curls slicked down, Bisbal is front and center in the glitzy spot that celebrates the 100th anniversary of sparkling wine leader.

Flappers dressed in gold-fringed mini dresses start a party in a wine cellar that continues through the decades until 2014, when the dancers join Bisbal at an outdoor party wearing sequined leotards with hoodies.

Young Spanish actress Maria Valverde, featured in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Exodus: Gods and Kings, also stars in the ad, which was released on Freixenet’s YouTube channel late Tuesday night (Nov. 25).

The New Year’s cava commercial was directed by Goya Award winner Kike Maíllo, who also directed a fictional film based on Bisbal’s Tu y Yo tour that debuted earlier this year.

The ad was filmed at Freixenet’s headquarters outside of Barcelona. Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut is the world’s best-selling champagne-method sparkling wine, according to the brand.

Bisbal, known for his romantic ballads, has a lot to celebrate this year. Tu y Yo, the artist’s fifth studio album, debuted at No. 1 in Spain and was immediately certified double platinum for shipments of over 80,000 copies.

Bisbal is currently on a Latin American tour that culminates with December 14 concert in Madrid. He’ll take part in Televisa’s Canal de las Estrellas channel’s New Year’s Eve countdown, broadcast on December 31.

Chayanne to Debut New Single at the Billboard Latin Music Awards

Chayanne is making a triumphant return to music at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards

The 45-year-old Puerto Rican pop star is set to debut the first single from his new album with a live performance at the awards show on April 24.

Chayanne’s last album A Solas Con Chayanne, which was recorded during his two concerts at Auditorio Nacional in Mexico in June 2011, was released on February 7, 2012. His last single, “Me Enamoré de Ti“, which served as the theme song for the 2009 telenovela Corazon Salvaje, was released in November 2009.

Chayanne, who has recorded 23 albums and recorded more than 50 music videos, has sold more than 40 million albums around the globe.

He has 28 Top 10s on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, the fourth-most chart toppers on the list and four No. 1s on the Top Albums chart.

The entertainer has also appeared on the big and small screens on projects such as the film Dance with Me and the iconic TV show Ally McBeal.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards will be broadcast on April 24 at 7:00 pm ET on Telemundo.

In addition to Chayanne, the awards show will feature performances by Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, David Bisbal and Luis Fonsi.
