Bad Bunny’s “Dakiti,” Featuring Jhay Cortez, Becomes First Latin Song to Simultaneously Rule Billboard Global 200 & Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Charts

Bad Bunny’s latest single is officially a global phenomenon…

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer’s new track “Dakiti,” featuring Jhay Cortez, becomes the first Latin music hit to simultaneously rule both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.

The song ascends to its first week atop the former and leads the latter list for a second week.

The two charts, dated November 21, premiered in September and rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

A week after Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti” debuted on the Billboard Global 200 at No. 2, the song ascends to No. 1 with 110.2 million streams (up 32%) and 4,000 downloads sold (down 33%) globally in the week ending November 12.

The worldwide streaming sum for the song is the second-greatest in the Global 200’s brief history, bested only by the 123.8 million for “Lovesick Girls” by South Korea’s BLACKPINK‘s (October 17).

“Hawái” by Maluma bounds 9-3 on the Global 200, surpassing its prior No. 4 high, with 85.7 million streams (up 53%) and 6,000 sold (up 149%). Its remix with The Weeknd was released November 5.

Following its arrival at No. 1 a week earlier, Bad Bunny and Cortez’s “Dakiti” retains its coveted rank atop the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart with 88.6 million streams (up 44%) and 1,000 downloads sold (down 12%) in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 12.

Maluma’s “Hawái” jumps 6-2 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, where it spent a week at No. 1 in September, with 68.8 million streams (up 41%) and 3,000 sold (up 223%) outside the U.S. in the latest tracking week.

Thanks to “Dakiti” and “Hawái,” Latin music hits rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously on the Global Excl. U.S. chart for the first time.

Bad Bunny Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart with “Dakiti,” Featuring Jhay Cortez

Bad Bunny has gone straight to the top…

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer’s “Dakiti,” featuring Jhay Cortez, debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated November 17.

The new collaboration is just the third song to debut atop the chart in 2020 and the seventh No. 1 of 2020 in total. It concurrently earns the biggest week in terms of streaming for a Latin song in 2020.

“Working with Jhay is always a good experience,” Bad Bunny tells Billboard. “We’ve worked together on the remix of ‘No Me Conoce,’ which was a global hit, and the remix of ‘Como Se Siente,’ and people have always enjoyed our collaborations. In this case, it’s the first time we were able to work together in the studio, unlike the other two songs that were done via phone. Sharing ideas in person is the key of the success of the song.”

“Dakiti” bows atop Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streams, mainly on the strength of streaming activity and downloads, after earning 22.2 million streams in the week ending November 5, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

The song yields a No. 3 debut on the overall Streaming Songs chart and a No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs. The song earns the biggest week for a Latin song in terms of streaming activity in 2020. What takes the runner-up slot? Well, his own “Si Veo a Tu Mamá,” which opened with 19 million streams on the March 14-dated list.

“Dakiti” concurrently sold 5,000 downloads in its first tracking week, prompting a No. 1 opening on Latin Digital Song Sales and No. 12 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart.

“The creative process of this song was different than my previous works,” Bad Bunny adds. “I usually have a main idea for a song. For this one, though, Jhay composed the base, the initial rhythm and the main idea together with Mora. I then added to the evolution of the production, rhythm and lyrics with Tainy. It was a combined effort, which is unusual for me, but when one works as a team, great things come out. It’s been like a drug, literally. Everyone has gone crazy over ‘Dakiti.’”

“Dakiti” is just the third title to open at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs in 2020. Notably, all three have had Bad Bunny as a lead act. Prior to “Dakiti” his own “Si Veo a Tu Mamá” and “Un Día (One Day)” with J Balvin, Dua Lipa and Tainy, both arrived at the penthouse on the March 14- and the August 8-dated lists.

As Bad Bunny clocks his sixth No. 1, Cortez captures his first No. 1 ever on a Billboard hybrid chart.

“Dakiti” concurrently achieves a No. 9 showing on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song becomes just the second all-Spanish tune to debut in the list’s top 10. The first was also a Bad Bunny tune (“MIA,” with Drake, arrived at No. 5 in October 2018.)

Bad Bunny to Perform at This Year’s American Music Awards

Bad Bunny is bringing his latest hit to the American Music Awards…

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer has been added to the performers list for the annual awards show, which will take place on November 22.

Bad Bunny will offer the world premiere performance of his insta-smash hit single, “Dakiti,”alongside Jhay Cortez. The single recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.

He performed “I Like It,” his chart-topping collaboration with Cardi B and J Balvin, on the AMAs two years ago.

Bad Bunny joins a lineup of recently added performers that includes Shawn Mendes, Megan Thee Stallion and Lil Baby. The stars join the previously announced BTS and Dua Lipa.

It’s fitting that the AMAs are highlighting performances by Latin and rap/hip-hop stars. The AMAs this year are increasing their number of Latin categories from one to four and the number of rap/hip-hop categories from three to four.

The AMAs, which debuted in 1974, bills itself as the world’s largest fan-voted awards show. Taraji P. Henson is set to host this year’s show, which will broadcast live from The Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles for the 14th consecutive year.

The show is set to air on Sunday November 22 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on ABC. It will reportedly be seen in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

The 26-year-old Latin trap and reggaeton singer debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. ranking with his latest single “Dakiti,” featuring Jhay Cortez.

Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti” debuts at No. 1 with 61.5 million streams and 1,000 downloads sold in territories outside the U.S. in the week ending November 5.

The chart, dated November 14, ranks songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Nielsen Music/MRC Data. The Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.

Bad Bunny Earns Four American Music Award Nominations

Bad Bunny’s crossover into the American music scene continues…

This year’s American Music Awards nominations have been revealed, with the 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer earning four nods.

Bad Bunny is nominated in the Favorite Male Artist – Latin category for the second year in a row. In addition he earned two nods in the Favorite Album – Latin category for his chart-topping albums YHLQMDLG and Las que no iban a salir.

His fourth nod comes in the Favorite Song – Latin category for his hot single “Vete.”

Nipping on Bad Bunny’s heels… his Oasis album collaborator J Balvin, with two nods.

The 35-year-old Colombian singer is nominated in the Favorite Male Artist – Latin category, as well as Favorite Song – Latin for his smash Black Eyes Peas collaboration “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life).”

Cardi B is the Latina artist with the most nods.

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar is nominated in three categories.

Cardi B is up for Favorite Female Artist – Rap/Hip-Hop, as well as Collaboration Of The Year and Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop for her chart-topping hit single WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

Karol G has picked up her first-ever American Music Award nods…

The 29-year-old Colombian singer is nominated for Favorite Female Artist – Latin and Favorite Song – Latin For her No. 1 collaboration with Nicki Minaj, “Tusa.”

Jhene Aiko picked up a Favorite Female Artist – Soul/R&B nod, while Anuel AA earned a nod for Favorite Album – Latin for his acclaimed album Emmanuel.

Other nominees include Ozuna (Favorite Males Artist – Male), and Becky G and Rosalia in the Favorite Female Artist – Latin category.

The ceremony is set to take place live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 22 at 8:00 pm EST/PST on ABC.

This year, the AMAs added new categories to their slate including Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Female Artist (Rap/Hip-Hop); and Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Female, Favorite Album and Favorite Song (Latin).

The AMAs are the worlds largest fan-voted award show and is seen in over 200 countries and territories around the world. Voting is now open for all AMA categories.

Bad Bunny isn’t perreo-ing sola anymore…

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer, rapper, and songwriter joined voices with Ivy Queen and Nesi to give a show-stopping performance of his smash single “Yo Perreo Sola” performance at the Billboard Music Awards earlier this month.

And now he’s premiering the remix to the hit song…

Bad Bunny brought out Nesi, who was already on the original version, and reggaetón icon Ivy Queen for the epic set that championed women, bringing together two generations of female artists in reggaetón.

“It’s important for me to champion women, but it should be important for everyone,” Bad Bunny tells Billboard exclusively. “With time you understand the power of your voice, and if I have the power to inspire and motivate people to listen to my music, then I can also motivate them to do positive things for society and defend women. It’s important for other artist to start doing the same and motivate their fans.”

The new version of “Yo Perreo Sola” stays true to its original version, but this one finds Ivy Queen taking on some of Bad Bunny’s verses for a more direct and impactful delivery of the song’s ultimate message: I don’t need a man — I can twerk alone.

It’s a message men should understand and respect. “This award goes to women around the world, especially Latin women and those from Puerto Rico,” Bad Bunny said as he accepted the top Latin artist award during the ceremony. “Without you, nothing would exist, not even reggaetón. So enough with the machista violence against women. This song has a social message about understanding that you can perrear [twerk], get educated and be respectful all at the same time. If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect her — she can dance alone.”

Ozuna Releases “Caramelo” Remix, Featuring Karol G & Myke Towers

Ozuna is sweetening things up…

Two months after releasing “Caramelo,” the 28-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer has released a remix of the track featuring Karol G and Myke Towers.

“Caramelo,” one of this year’s Billboard Latin summer songs, is a hip-shaking and head-bobbing reggaeton single that tells the story of two people who have undeniable chemistry.

“I tried you again, your mouth does not lose its candy flavor / we let ourselves go, you are my bandit and I am your bandit,” the catchy chorus says.

Karol G kicks off the remix flaunting her sugary high vocals. In her verse, the “Tusa” singer croons about being a girl who’s like no other and can do all the things her man likes to do. Towers adds his distinct flow to the track, singing about a ride-or-die girl who he’s crazy about.

Similar to the original music video, the remix features all three artists in different Candyland-inspired settings as models enjoy sweet treats such as ice cream, bubble gum, lollipops, chocolate and more.

On the Billboard charts, “Caramelo” captured his first top 10 debut of 2020, and his second new top 10 of the year overall, arriving at No. 7 on the Hot Latin Songs chart dated June 27. The song hit No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart dated August 15, nabbing his 20th leader on the list, which launched in 1994.

J Balvin Leads Pack of Heat Latin Music Awards Nominees

J Balvin is feeling the Heat, and the love…

HTV has announced the nominees for the Heat Latin Music Awards 2019, with the 33-year-old Colombian urban singer leading the list of nominated artists with five nods.

J Balvin is nominated in the Best Male Artist and Best Urban Artist categories, Meanwhile, his “Machika” track with Jeon and Anitta earned nods for Best Video and Best Collaboration, where he’ll compete against himself after a earning a second nod in the category for appearing on Bad Bunny’s “Sensualidad” single alongside Prince Royce.

Ozuna earned four nominations.

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin Trap singer is nominated for Best Male Artist and Best Urban Artist, while his Reik & Wisin collaboration “Me Niego” and Natti Natasha collab “Criminal” are both up for Best Collaboration.

Sebastián Yatra also has four nods…

The 24-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter is up for Best Male Artist and Best Pop Artist; his single “Por Perro,” featuring Luis Figueroa and Lary Over, is nominated for Best Video; and his single with Carlos Vives, “Robarte Un Beso” earned a nod in the Best Collaboration category.

Meanwhile, Greeicy, Karol G and Anitta have tied for the most nominations for a female artist with three each.

The 26-year-old Colombian actress and singer, whose full name is Greeicy Rendon, is up for Best Female Artist and Best New Artist, while her single “Amantes” with Mike Bahia is nominated in the Best Collaboration category.

Karol G is nominated for Best Female Artist, and she’s the only female up for Best Urban Artist. The 27-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer and songwriter’s clip for her single “Pineapple” is nominated for Best Video.

Anitta has earned a nod in the Best Female Artist, while her collaboration with J Balvin and Jeon, “Machika” is up for Best Video and Best Collaboration.

The Heat Latin Music Awards are made in Latin American territory with a large component of popular voting, which aims to become a milestone in the music industry by awarding the main stars of Latin music.

Heat Latin Music Awards will broadcast live on May 13 from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana.

Bad Bunny Signs Exclusive Booking Deal with Cardenas Marketing Network

Bad Bunny is ready to take Latin America by storm…

The 23-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton, a rising Trap star, has signed an exclusive booking deal with Cardenas Marketing Network (CMN) for select Latin American territories.

CMN, which also books Marc Anthony, Gente de Zona and Nicky Jam among other artists, will have exclusive booking rights for Bad Bunny in Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The deal underscores the growing impact of Latin trap, which only a year ago, was the stuff of local clubs. Now, a roster of acts that includes Ozuna, Bryant Myers and Farruko is delivering the music to a much broader audience, and last April, the Billboard Latin Music Conference hosted its first-ever Latin trap panel.

“We are proud to add Bad Bunny to our booking roster, as he is continuing an upward trend playing in new venues, countries and continents,” said Henry Cardenas, CEO of Cardenas Marketing Network in a statement.

Bad Bunny is signed to indie Hear This Music. His current single, “Soy Peor,” is at No. 22 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.
