The Mexican American singer/songwriter, the lead vocalist of Eslabon Armado, rises to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Songwriters chart dated April 29, ruling as the top songwriter in the United States for the first time, due to his work on his band’s hit single “Ella Baila Sola,” with Peso Pluma.
“Ella Baila Sola” surges with 31.8 million official U.S. streams, up 31%, in the April 14-20 tracking week, according to Luminate.
Tovar is the fifth person to rule the Hot 100 Songwriters chart this year, after late holiday hitmaker Johnny Marks, for one week in January; SZA (nine weeks, January-March); Morgan Wallen (one, March); and Ashley Gorley (five, March-April).
Tovar concurrently spends a fifth week at No. 1 on the Latin Songwriters chart, as “Ella Baila Sola” adds a third week atop Hot Latin Songs.
Billboard’s weekly Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot 100. As with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).

The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS) has revealed the winners of the 27th Annual Webby Awards, with the 42-year-old half-Ecuadorian among the honorees.
Aguilera won the Webby Award for Music Video, General Video (Video) category for the new music video for her hit single “Beautiful.” “Beautiful (2022 Version)” was released to celebrate the 20-year-old anniversary of her Stripped album.
It’s Aguilera’s first-ever Webby Awards win.
Other winners include SZA as Artist of the Year, Tracee Ellis Ross with a Special Achievement Award and Sharon Horgan as Best Actress.
Barack Obama, Lizzo, Doja Cat, Blackpink, Hugh Jackman, Jimmy Kimmel, Hoda Kotb, Trixie Mattel, Serena Williams, the cast of Stranger Thingsand the cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Foreverwere also among the award recipients.

The 32-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter’s new album Mañana Será Bonito is making an unprecedented splash on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated March 11, as the set debuts atop the tally.
It’s both the first No. 1 for the artist and the chart’s first No. 1 all-Spanish-language album by a female artist.
“I feel so very special. More than happiness I feel special,” Karol G tells Billboard, who spoke with her as the news was reported. “My last album did so well and had all those big hits, like ‘Bichota,’ so the bar was high. But I didn’t want to make music because I felt pressure. I wanted to make the music I wanted to make, and the fact that I’ve hit No. 1 with an album that is so personal is enormous.”
Previously, only two all-Spanish albums led the list, both by Bad Bunny. (Un Verano Sin Ti in 2022 and El Ultimo Tour del Mundo in 2020).
Mañana Será Bonito earned 94,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 2, according to Luminate. Its starting sum was largely powered by streaming activity.
Of Mañana Será Bonito’s 94,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 83,000 (equaling 118.73 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 17 tracks), album sales comprise 10,000 and TEA units comprise 1,000. The album’s sales were largely powered by its digital download album (8,500), though there was a CD available in limited quantities, selling about 1,500 copies. The digital album was also offered in two alternative cover variants on Karol G’s official webstore.
Mañana Será Bonito logs the largest week, by equivalent album units earned, for a Latin album by a woman since the chart began measuring by units in December of 2014. (Latin albums are defined as those that have hit or are eligible for Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.) Further, as Mañana Será Bonito generated 118.73 million official on-demand streams for its songs, the set registers the biggest streaming week ever for a Latin album by a woman.
Mañana Será Bonito is also the first Latin album by a woman to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since 1995, when Selena’s posthumously-released, mostly-Spanish effort Dreaming of You topped the list for one week. (The 13-song Dreaming of You album has six tracks in Spanish, five in English and two duets that blend English and Spanish.)
Only three mostly-non-English-language albums by women have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 – the all-Spanish Mañana Será Bonito, Dreaming of You and The Singing Nun’s all-French-language self-titled album in 1963.
Karol G made her Billboard chart debut in 2016 and has been a force on Billboard’s Latin genre charts ever since, notching 17 top 10 hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart – including five No. 1s (through the most recently published chart, dated March 4). On the Top Latin Albums list, she’s previously logged a trio of top two-charting sets, including one No. 1, her previous release, KG0516, in 2021.
Mañana Será Bonito is the fourth charting album for Karol G on the all-genre Billboard 200, but first to reach the top 10. She previously visited the list with KG0516 (No. 20 in 2021), Ocean (No. 54 in 2019) and Unstoppable (No. 192 in 2017). Preceding the release of the new album, Karol had logged five top 40-charting hit songs on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, but with three of them coming in 2022: “Mamiii,” with Becky G (No. 15), “Provenza” (No. 25) and “Gatubela,” with Maldy (No. 37). Both “Mamiii” and “Provenza” became Karol’s first top 10-charting hits on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart, reaching Nos. 5 and 10, respectively. (Both “Provenza” and “Gatubela” are included on Mañana Será Bonito.)
With Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito replacing SZA’s SOS at No. 1, it’s the first time a woman has replaced another woman atop the list in over a year. It last happened when a trio of leading ladies traded off the top spot from November 20, 2021-December 4, 2021. Summer Walker’s Still Over It debuted at No. 1 on the on November 20 chart, Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) then opened atop the list on November 27, and Adele’s 30 bowed at No. 1 on the December 4 chart.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.
The 29-year-old Spanish singer and songwriter will take part in this year’s Global Citizen Festival, which is set for Saturday, September 24 with twin shows in New York City and Accra, Ghana.
Rosalia will be part of the U.S. leg alongside Metallica, Charlie Puth, Jonas Brothers, Måneskin, Mariah Carey and Mickey Guyton.
Other New York City performers include Angélique Kidjo and Billy Porter.
Bollywood star and Global Citizen ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas will host Global Citizen Festival: NYC, to be staged in Central Park.
For its 10th anniversary edition, Global Citizen expands its program with a show at Ghana’s Black Star Square, featuring performances by Usher, SZA, Stormzy, Gyakie, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Tems, and Uncle Waffles.
That show will mark the 65th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 20th anniversary of the African Union.
The annual concert-with-a-cause will call on world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and ahead of the G20 and COP27 this November to invest in the future, and to end global hunger.
The international advocacy organization and its supporters want to action, not words.
Among its list of requests, an investment of $600 million into the future of women and girls; close the annual $10 billion climate financing shortfall; $500 million to help African farmers respond to the global food crisis; and provide urgent relief from crushing debts to end extreme poverty.
The health crisis has pushed nearly 100 million more people into extreme poverty and is “reversing recent trends of shrinking inequality, leading to the loss of at least three years of progress,” reads a statement. “Without urgent action now this backsliding will only worsen.”
Also, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has “aggravated the situation further, with as many as 323 million people now facing acute hunger, and1.2 billion people now live in nations experiencing a perfect storm of food, energy, and financial crises. If we don’t take action now, as many as 200 million more people may be plunged into extreme poverty by November.”
The 2022 Global Citizen Festival will be broadcast and streamed on ABC, ABC NewsLive, FX, Hulu, iHeartRadio, TimesLIVE, Twitter, YouTube, and more.
ABC will also broadcast a primetime special Global Citizen Festival: Take Action NOW, on Sunday, September 25 at 7:00 pm ET. Additional tune-in details will follow in the weeks ahead.

For each “action” taken, users earn points that can be redeemed for tickets.
More performers and special guests will be announced in due course.
Apollo, a two-time Latin Grammy nominee, will perform on both weekends of the festival, which take places over the course of two weekends at the city’s downtown Zilker Park, with bands playing across nine stages on October 7-9 and October 14-16.
But Apollo isn’t the only Latinx artist set to perform…
BIA, born Bianca Miquela Landrau, will also form part of the eclectic lineup at this year’s fest. The 30-year-old half-Puerto Rican singer rose to acclaim with the hit single “Whole Lotta Money.”
Other Latinx performers include The Marias, Sabrina Claudio and Lido Pimienta.
Paramore, Lil Nas X, P!nk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chicks, SZA, Kacey Musgraves and Flume the event.

The lineup for the Austin Kiddie Limits will be announced soon, with music fans ages 8 and under admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticketed adult.

Produced by Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly and Starr Hill Presents, Outside Lands will return to Golden Gate Park from August 5 to 7.

Returning this year after an incredibly successful debut in 2021 is the SOMA Tent. Inspired by underground clubs and late nights, SOMA Tent features over nine hours of performances each day and is the perfect place to dance the night (or day) away. This year headliners include San Francisco mainstay and Dirtybird Records founder Claude VonStroke, legendary German house and techno DJ and producer Dixon and Los Angeles producer TOKiMONSTA.
Also returning this year is Grass Lands, which was the first curated cannabis experience at a major American music festival when it premiered in 2018. According to organizers, Grass Lands has become a “much loved” part of the Outside Lands experience. Grass Lands showcases the latest and most innovative products from the growing cannabis industry and is a place where people can learn about and enjoy cannabis in all its forms.
Last year, the festival made its return after taking a year off due to COVID-19. The 2021 edition played out over Halloween weekend with sets from J Balvin and Tyler, the Creator.
Weekend passes go on sale Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT on the Outside Lands website, with three-day general admission starting at $399, and three-day VIP passes at $799.
The 29-year-old half-Dominican American Grammy-winning rap superstar has joined voices with Kay Flock, Dougie B and Bory300 on the just-released hip-hop banger “Shake It,” with an accompanying music video.
Cardi B made her triumphant return to Twitter and Instagram on Thursday to tease the track ahead of its release, writing, “SHAKE IT MUSIC VIDEO OUT AT MIDNIGHT …..GO GEEK!”
Flock began promoting the new tune last month, sharing a sneak peak from the music video via Instagram on March 30 with the caption: “We Bout to Shake It Up … Thank you @iamcardibComing Soon! My Hearttttt.”
The drill rap collaboration comes just three weeks after Cardi B appeared on the extended remix of Summer Walker and SZA’s hit track “No Love.”
Cardi B’s latest collaborator, Flock, was named Billboard’s R&B and Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month back in November.
At the time, he spoke about his plans to help push drill music forward. “I just gotta keep going, you feel me?” Flock told Billboard. “And [with] other artists that are trying to come up through drill, just help them out too. Just gotta keep putting people on. I don’t know, to me, it don’t really mean nothing that I’m in the industry or whatever. That sh– don’t mean nothing to me. I’m still the same dude. If I could get a million [dollars] or better, my people can too. They most definitely could.”
Kali Uchis is preparing to tik the New Year to the next level…
TikTok has announced the lineup for its TikTok New Year’s Eve livestream, including a headlining performance by the 27-year-old Colombian American Grammy-winning singer.
Uchis joins a roster of headlining acts that includes Charlie Puth and Rico Nasty.
“Celebrate the New Year with @KALIUCHIS, @charlieputh, @Rico_nastyy, host @Avgfashionblog and special guests as they say goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022,” TikTok tweeted to reveal the December 31 special.
The trio of musicians will be joined by TikTok creators Tyshon Lawrence, Cristian Dennis, Tracy Joseph, Billy and Scarlet May, while Courtney Parchman — otherwise known as Average Fashion Blogger to her nearly one million TikTok followers — will serve as the evening’s host.
The livestream is set to kick off at 9:00 pm ET/6 pm PT on New Year’s Eve.
Uchis earned her first No. 1 hit atop Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in March with “Telepatía,” thanks in large part to the Spanish-language single going viral on TikTok.
Since then, she has also collaborated with the likes of SZA (“Fue Mejor”) and Ozuna (“Another Day in America.”)

The original “fue mejor” track, which featuredPartyNextDoor, is from the Grammy-winning artist’s 2020 sophomore album Sin Miedo (Del Amor y Otros Demonios), which peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard 200and reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Pop Albums chart.
The PartyNextDoor-assisted version of “fue mejor” reached No. 46 on Hot Latin Songs in December 2020. Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) recently won Latin pop album of the year at the 2021 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Danny Pino isn’t just starring in Dear Evan Hansen… He’s also appearing on the soundtrack.
Universal has announced the track list for the film adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, with the 47-year-old Cuban American actor among the talents appearing on the album.
Pino appears on the film’s track “Requiem,” alongside Kaitlyn Dever and Amy Adams.
The soundtrack, which will be available on September 9 – the same day as the film’s theatrical release via Interscope Records, will also feature Sam Smith with Summer Walker, SZA, Carrie Underwoodwith Dan + Shay, Finneas, and Tori Kelly. They’ll be performing reimagined versions of the musical’s TonyAward-winning songs and as well as original recordings from the film’s score.
Songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul also wrote original tracks for the movie adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen. The album also features 16 tracks that include recordings by the film’s cast.
“Pasek and Paul’s songs from the Dear Evan Hansen stage play are so amazing and timeless — newly recorded by our film’s cast for the soundtrack (and freshly produced by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Alex Lacamoire and Dan Romer, and supervised by Jordan Carroll) — and they’re now also complemented by two new original songs written for the film (with one of them co-written and performed in the film by Amandla Stenberg),” Mike Knobloch, president of global film music and publishing at Universal Pictures, tells Billboard.
The song, on which he’s credited as the sole writer, jumps 10-5 on the latest Billboard Hot 100. It became the first Regional Mexican song to reach the chart’s top 10 a week earlier and is now the first to hit the top five.
