Karol G & Shakira Earn First No. 1 on Billboard Global 200 & Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Charts with “TQG”

Karol G is a global sensation…

The 32-year-old Colombian singer’s Shakira-collab “TQG” has launched as the biggest song in the world, debuting at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts dated March 11.

Karol G and Shakira’s “TQG” debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, with 158.4 million streams and 10,000 sold worldwide in the February 24-March 2 tracking week. The collaboration is from Karol G’s new album Mañana Será Bonito, which debuts at No. 1 on the U.S.-based Billboard 200, becoming the first all-Spanish-language leader by a woman in the chart’s history.

Notably, the song starts with the ninth-best streaming week since the Global 200 began (with seven of the top 10 such frames by female acts).

Karol G claims her first Global 200 No. 1 among four top 10s, following “Provenza” (No. 6, May 2022); “MAMIII,” with Becky G (No. 4, March 2022); and “Bichota” (No. 7, January 2021).

Shakira also scores her first Global 200 leader since the list began, after her and Bizarrap’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” debuted at its No. 2 peak (where it ranked for three weeks) in January, marking her first top 10; it slips 5-7 on the latest list.

Karol G and Shakira are the third and fourth artists from Colombia to top the Global 200; Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo are among the seven credited acts on Disney’s Encanto smash “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which led for three weeks beginning in February 2022.

As on the Global 200, Karol G and Shakira’s “TQG” debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, with 129.7 million streams and 3,000 sold outside the U.S. Feb. 24-March 2. It’s likewise each act’s first Global Excl. U.S. leader, among five and three top 10s, respectively.

Karol G and Shakira are the second and third acts from Colombia to command Global Excl. U.S.; Maluma led, with The Weeknd, on “Hawái,” the week that the chart began in 2020.

The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. surveys, which launched in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

Karol G Makes History as “Mañana Será Bonito” Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

The 32-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter’s new album Mañana Será Bonito is making an unprecedented splash on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated March 11, as the set debuts atop the tally.

Karol GIt’s both the first No. 1 for the artist and the chart’s first No. 1 all-Spanish-language album by a female artist.

“I feel so very special. More than happiness I feel special,” Karol G tells Billboard, who spoke with her as the news was reported. “My last album did so well and had all those big hits, like ‘Bichota,’ so the bar was high. But I didn’t want to make music because I felt pressure. I wanted to make the music I wanted to make, and the fact that I’ve hit No. 1 with an album that is so personal is enormous.” 

Previously, only two all-Spanish albums led the list, both by Bad Bunny. (Un Verano Sin Ti in 2022 and El Ultimo Tour del Mundo in 2020).

Mañana Será Bonito earned 94,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending March 2, according to Luminate. Its starting sum was largely powered by streaming activity.

Of Mañana Será Bonito’s 94,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 83,000 (equaling 118.73 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 17 tracks), album sales comprise 10,000 and TEA units comprise 1,000. The album’s sales were largely powered by its digital download album (8,500), though there was a CD available in limited quantities, selling about 1,500 copies. The digital album was also offered in two alternative cover variants on Karol G’s official webstore.

Mañana Será Bonito logs the largest week, by equivalent album units earned, for a Latin album by a woman since the chart began measuring by units in December of 2014. (Latin albums are defined as those that have hit or are eligible for Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.) Further, as Mañana Será Bonito generated 118.73 million official on-demand streams for its songs, the set registers the biggest streaming week ever for a Latin album by a woman.

Mañana Será Bonito is also the first Latin album by a woman to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since 1995, when Selena’s posthumously-released, mostly-Spanish effort Dreaming of You topped the list for one week. (The 13-song Dreaming of You album has six tracks in Spanish, five in English and two duets that blend English and Spanish.)

Only three mostly-non-English-language albums by women have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 – the all-Spanish Mañana Será BonitoDreaming of You and The Singing Nun’s all-French-language self-titled album in 1963.

Karol G made her Billboard chart debut in 2016 and has been a force on Billboard’s Latin genre charts ever since, notching 17 top 10 hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart – including five No. 1s (through the most recently published chart, dated March 4). On the Top Latin Albums list, she’s previously logged a trio of top two-charting sets, including one No. 1, her previous release, KG0516, in 2021.

Mañana Será Bonito is the fourth charting album for Karol G on the all-genre Billboard 200, but first to reach the top 10. She previously visited the list with KG0516 (No. 20 in 2021), Ocean (No. 54 in 2019) and Unstoppable (No. 192 in 2017). Preceding the release of the new album, Karol had logged five top 40-charting hit songs on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, but with three of them coming in 2022: “Mamiii,” with Becky G (No. 15), “Provenza” (No. 25) and “Gatubela,” with Maldy (No. 37). Both “Mamiii” and “Provenza” became Karol’s first top 10-charting hits on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart, reaching Nos. 5 and 10, respectively. (Both “Provenza” and “Gatubela” are included on Mañana Será Bonito.)

With Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito replacing SZA’s SOS at No. 1, it’s the first time a woman has replaced another woman atop the list in over a year. It last happened when a trio of leading ladies traded off the top spot from November 20, 2021-December 4, 2021. Summer Walker’s Still Over It debuted at No. 1 on the on November 20 chart, Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) then opened atop the list on November 27, and Adele’s 30 bowed at No. 1 on the December 4 chart.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

Bad Bunny to Become Coachella’s First-Ever Latin Headlining Act

Bad Bunny is set to make history yet again

The 2023 Coachella Music and Arts Festival lineup has been announced, with the 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar revealed as one of the headlining acts.

Bad BunnyIn doing so, Bad Bunny – the ultra-hot reggaeton superstar who had the highest-grossing tour of 2022 in North America and internationally – becomes the first Latin act to ever headline the festival.

Coachella is set to take place in Indio, Calif., on two consecutive weekends, from April 14-16 and then again from April 21-23.

Bad Bunny will play Friday on April 14 and 21.

But Bad Bunny isn’t the only Latinx act set to perform…

Becky G will return to Coachella to perform her own set after being Karol G’s special guest last year, where they sang their anthem “MAMIII” in front of a roaring crowd.

Spanish star Rosalía will take the stage on Saturday, April 15 and Saturday, April 22.

Others set to perform include the iconic Argentine rock band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are confirmed, as well as emerging artists DannyLux and Conexión Divina as the face of a new generation of Mexican music. Kali Uchis and Eladio Carrión are also set to perform.

This year’s lineup doesn’t compare to the number of Latin artists featured last year, which was more than 20 representing a wide-ranging and robust slate of Spanish-language artists. Then, Coachella had doubled the Latin acts on its 2022 roster from 2020, the most ever featured at an edition of the event.

Carolina Gaitán & Her “Encanto” Cast Mates Rank No. 1 on YouTube’s Top 10 Songs of the Year List

YouTube has revealed its top 10 songs of the year, with the 38-year-old Colombian actress and singer’s single with her Encanto cast mates, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” topping the list.

Jessica Darrow, Gaitan’s cast mate, comes in at No. 3 with another hit Encanto track.

The 27-year-old Cuban American actress/singer’s “Surface Pressure,” which she performed as her character (Luisa Madrigal) in the animated film, peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the charts in the UK.

It was a big year for Latin music on YouTube, as both Bad Bunny and Karol G had two songs each on YouTube’s top 10 list.

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar’s “Tití Me Preguntó” came in at No. 4 while his Chencho Corleone collaboration “Me Porto Bonito” was No. 6.

The 31-year-old Colombian singer’s Becky G duet “Mamiii” came in at No. 7 while her sultry “Provenza” hit No. 9.

The songs that appear on the annual YouTube include streams from the official music video, lyric videos and user-generated content that uses the full official song, and cover the period from January 1, 2022 to November 15, 2022. Its lists are restricted to two songs for each artist or album.

YouTube’s rankings don’t end there. The streaming giant also shares its lists for top trending videos, top shorts, top creators, breakout creators, ads, and more.

Bad Bunny Wins Big at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Bad Bunny is a Billboard darling…

With nine wins — including artist of the year, tour of the year and songwriter of the year — the 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar was the big winner at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny, who has been breaking attendance and chart records, also took home top Latin album of the year and top Latin rhythm album of the year for Un Verano Sin Ti, the longest-running album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 so far this year, as well as Hot Latin Songs and Top Latin Albums artist of the year, male and tropical song of the year for “Volví.”

Following Bad Bunny in sheer number of wins was Farruko with his juggernaut hit “Pepas,” which won the coveted Hot Latin Song of the Year award, as well as sales, streaming and Latin rhythm song of the year.

Karol G was the top female artist of the awards, winning Hot Latin Songs and Top Latin Albums artist of the year, female, while “Mamiii,” her collaboration with Becky G, won Hot Latin Song of the year, vocal event.

Rauw Alejandro and regional Mexican stars Grupo Firme and Eslabón Armado all took home two awards each, as did 18-year-old Mexican newcomer Iván Cornejo, who won the very important new artist of the year award.

The producer of the year award once again went to Tainy.

While Bad Bunny may have dominated the charts, the list of winners represented a vast array of Latin genres and artists ranging from icons to newcomers, including Rosalía, Wisin y Yandel, Romeo Santos and Christian Nodal.

Finalists and winners were celebrated live at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, which aired on the Telemundo network from the Watsco Center in Miami.

Billboard Latin Music Awards is the only awards show to honor the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music as determined by Billboard‘s renowned weekly charts.

Finalists, and eventual winners, reflect performance of new recordings on Billboard‘s albums and songs charts during a one-year period, from the rankings dated August 14, 2021, through the August 6, 2022, charts. Determinations are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay and touring, tracked by Billboard and its data partner, Luminate.

Ángela Aguilar to Perform at This Year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards

The 18-year-old Mexican-American singer-songwriter will perform at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, set to take place on Thursday, September 29.

Billboard and Telemundo announced on Tuesday (Sept. 6) the second round of performers who will take the stage at Miami’s Watsco Center.

The new list of acts join an already star-studded lineup that includes Camilo, Carlos Vives, Chayanne, CNCO, Eslabon Armado, Grupo Firme, Maluma, Pablo López, Pepe Aguilar, Raphael and Tini.

Bad Bunny leads the list of finalists for the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, with 23 nods across 13 categories. He is up for artist of the year, tour of the year, Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, male, and top Latin album of the year for his album Un Verano Sin Ti, which has logged nine nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for album of the year at the recent MTV Video Music Awards. Bad Bunny won artist of the year — the first time a Latin artist has been in a marquee category at that show.

Following Bad Bunny is Colombian star Karol G with 15 entries in 11 categories — a record number of nods for a female artist. Karol’s categories include artist of the year and Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, female, as well as Hot Latin Song of the year, vocal event, for her Becky G collab “MAMIII.”

The 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, the longest-running awards show in Latin music, will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET on September 29, preceded by a one-hour red carpet special.

The awards will broadcast simultaneously on Spanish entertainment cable network Universo, throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional, the Telemundo App and on Peacock.

Karol G Earns 14th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Provenza”

Karol G has another airplay chart-topper on her resume…

The 31-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and businesswoman has conquered the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart for a 14th time as “Provenza” rises from No. 4 to lead the July 9-dated list.

Holding strong at No. 2 (after its No. 1 high) is Karol G’s single with Becky G, “Mamiii.”

With the one-two punch Karol G logs a new career achievement, becoming just the second woman, after Selena in 1995, to hold Nos. 1 and 2 at the same time since the chart launched in 1994.

“Provenza” rallies 4-1 on Latin Airplay thanks to a 23% gain in audience impressions, to 10.9 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending July 3, according to Luminate.

It’s Karol G’s 14th champ overall on the tally which measures audience totals across all Latin-monitored stations in the U.S.

It’s concurrently her fourth No. 1 as a solo act, unaccompanied by any other artist, two of which stem from her Top Latin Albums No. 1 set KG0516 (April 14, 2021-dated ranking): “Ay, Dios Mío! (Oct. 2020) and “Bichota” (Feb. 2021).

Further, Karol G sends Rauw Alejandro and Chencho Corleone’s “Desesperados” to No. 5 after its one-week reign (July 2-dated survey) with a 23% dip in audience impressions.

The last female to claim the top two spots together was the late Selena, when “Tú Sólo Tú” and “I Could Fall in Love” ranked at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively, on the Sept. 9, 1995-dated tally. (Selena logged a total of six weeks at Nos. 1 and 2 with those titles beginning that August.)

Further, having already asserted its strength with a No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs, Latin Digital Song Sales, and Latin Streaming Songs charts for at least one week, “Provenza” concurrently pounces to the top on the current Latin Pop Airplay survey.

Elsewhere, “Provenza” holds at No. 4 on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart for a third week, after its one-week reign (May 14). It concurrently rebounds 40-32 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart.

 

Ozuna Earns 28th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Deprimida”

There’s no reason for Ozuna to be deprimido

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican singer collects his 28th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as “Deprimida” rises 7-1 on the June 4-dated ranking.

OzunaThe song ascends from No. 7 in its 13th week due to a 50% increase in audience impressions earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 29, according to Luminate.

The 50% gain, which equates to 9.9 million in audience impressions, earns “Deprimida” the Greatest Gainer honors of the week, and sends Becky G and Karol G’s “Mamiii” to No. 2 after its second nonconsecutive week at the summit.

“Deprimida’s” top three stations, by audience, in the tracking week were in New York: WSKQ leads with 155,000 in audience impressions, followed by WXNY (827,000) and WPAT (595,000).

With 28 leaders on his Latin Airplay account, Ozuna extends his third-most ranking among all acts since the chart launched in 1994, standing only behind J Balvin’s 35 No. 1s and Enrique Iglesias’ 32 leaders.

“Deprimida” is the first single from Ozuna’s upcoming sixth studio album Ozutuchi. He has placed a total of five studio sets on the Top Latin Albums chart, all which have debuted in the penthouse, dating back to his 46-week champ Odisea in 2017.

Beyond its victory on the Latin Airplay chart, “Deprimida” concurrently ascends 4-1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay. 

It gives Ozuna his 27th leader there, also the third-most trailing J Balvin’s 34 No. 1s and Daddy Yankee’s 32.

Thanks to its radio push, the song re-enters at No. 43 on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart (it previously peaked at No. 34 peak on the March 12-dated recap).

The 31-year-old Colombian singer/songwriter has claimed a new career milestone on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart as her latest single, “Provenza,” debuts at No. 2 on the May 7-dated ranking.

“Provenza,” Karol G’s 15th Hot Latin Songs top 10, begins with 11 million U.S. streams in the week ending April 28, according to Luminate. It opens as her fifth No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs and her second top 10, at No. 10 (after “Mamiii”), on the overall Streaming Songs chart.

“Provenza” also sold 2,100 downloads and becomes her fifth No. 1 on Latin Digital Song Sales. It additionally jumps onto Latin Airplay at No. 18 with 5.3 million in audience.

Produced by Karol G’s longtime collaborator Ovy on the Drums, “Provenza” is a fusion of sounds with tropical and rhythmic elements peppered with afro-dance beats that pays tribute to a neighborhood in her native Medellín.

With “Provenza” arriving at No. 2 on Hot Latin Songs as “Mamiii” reigns for a 10th week, Karol G achieves a feat that no other woman had in over a quarter-century.

The last solo female with no accompanying artists to claim the top two spots together was the late Selena, when “Tú Sólo Tú” and “I Could Fall in Love” ranked at Nos. 1 and 2 respectively, on the September 9, 1995-dated tally (when Hot Latin Songs, now a blend of airplay, streaming and sales data, was based on monitored audience totals among Latin radio stations). Selena logged a total of six weeks at Nos. 1 and 2 with those titles beginning that July.

Previously this decade, Bad Bunny (two weeks) and The Black Eyed Peas (five) doubled up at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously on Hot Latin Songs, both in 2020.

Elsewhere, “Provenza” bows at No. 36 on the all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, marking Karol G’s highest start as an unaccompanied act. It’s her fourth top 40 entry; “Mamiii” ranks at No. 20, after launching at a personal-best No. 15 in February.

The 31-year-old Colombian singer’s “Bichota” music video has surpassed one billion views on YouTube, marking her fifth title to enter the Billion Views Club.

Karol G, who won the 2021 Latin Grammy for best reggaeton performance with this single, reached this new milestone over the weekend.

Released on October 23, 2020, the term “Bichota” (linked to the Puerto Rican slang “bichote,” deriving from the English term “big shot”) refers to “a moment of feeling sexy, flirtatious, daring, strong, empowered, and to a certain extent, [it] translates into personal motivation and self-confidence,” Karol G previously told Billboard. “We are all super ‘Bichotas’ inside. It’s about believing and working so that the rest of the world can see it too.”

The Ovy on the Drums-produced single hit the Top 20 on Billboard Global Charts, earning Karol G her ninth No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart, and her 10th top 10 on Hot Latin Songs.

This led to her becoming the first female artist to debut in the list’s top 10 without another act in eight years since Gloria Estefan’s 2012 “Hotel Nacional.”

News of “Bichota” reaching one billion views comes on the heels of Karol G’s two-weekend Coachella debut on April 17 and 24, where she performed “MAMIII” with Becky G live for the first time, releasing her new single “Provenza,” and announcing her upcoming new trek dubbed the $trip Love Tour 2022. The trek kicks off on September 6 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, and wraps up on October 29 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.
