Gloria Estefan to Receive Legend Award at Billboard Latin Women in Music Event

The 66-year-old Cuban superstar will be honored at the 2024 Billboard Latin Women in Music event, which will air exclusively on Telemundo on Sunday, June 9, at 9:00 pm ET.

Estefan will be honored with the Legend Award, which is given to outstanding artists who have left a “unique and immeasurable legacy and have significantly impacted the industry throughout their careers with their musical work.”

The “Conga” and “Mi Tierra” hitmaker is renowned globally as a multi-talented singer and composer, celebrated for seamlessly blending her Cuban roots with mainstream music and paving the way for Latin musicians in the global arena. Billboard has hailed her as the most successful Latin “crossover” artist ever, underscoring her transformative impact on music and culture.

She has sold more than 100 million records. Her many honors include three Grammy Awards, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2017 and the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song in 2019, the latter award in tandem with her husband Emilio Estefan.

Meanwhile, Ángela Aguilar will also be honored with the Musical Dynasty Award.

The title is given to artists who “keep a familial artistic legacy alive and honor the musical dynasty to which they belong.”

The Mexican singer is part of the esteemed Aguilar family, and, at 20 years old, she has carved out her own successful career with her talent while preserving the traditions of her family heritage.

With various hits under her belt, such as “Dime Como Quieres” with Christian Nodal at No. 8 on Hot Latin Songs and three No. 1s on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart, the Grammy-nominated singer is a force to be reckoned with. She was also featured in Billboard’s 21 under 21 in 2022 and 2023.

This celebration, which highlights the efforts of Latin women musicians who are “proactively working for positive change, inclusion and gender parity in the music industry,” will see the Cuban-American superstar receive the Legend title and the regional Mexican music star the Musical Dynasty honor.

Other Latin Women in Music recipients include Kany García, who will be given the Spirit of Change Award, and Ana Bárbara with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

In the coming weeks, additional honorees will be announced for the second annual Billboard Latin Women in Music ceremony, hosted by actress Jacqueline Bracamontes.

Grupo Frontera Announces 38-Date “Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada” North American Tour

Less than a week after releasing their sophomore studio album Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada, the Mexican American Regional Mexican group has unveiled dates for its upcoming tour, set to kick off on August 2 in Las Vegas.

Grupo FronteraGrupo Frontera, known for megahits such as “No Se Va” — the Morat cover that catapulted them to stardom — “Tulum” and “un x100to” will embark on a 38-date trek across the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The arena tour, also titled Jugando A Que No Pasa Nada, will visit major U.S. cities including New York (Barclays Center), Dallas (American Airlines Center), Los Angeles (Intuit Dome) and Nashville (Bridgestone Arena).

After wrapping the U.S. leg on October 5 at the Bert Ogden Arena in their hometown of Edinburg, Texas, the band will head out to Mexico for 10 dates.

After having breakout year in 2022, the six-member has since placed eight songs on the Billboard 100, including top 10 hit “un x100to” with Bad Bunny.

The norteño/tejano band’s debut album, Un Comienzo, peaked at No. 4 on the Top Latin Albums chart dated August 19.

Along with the release of their new album — which includes collaborations with acts such as Nicki NicoleMaluma and Morat — Frontera recently nabbed its eighth No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart thanks to the Christian Nodal-assisted “Ya Pedo Quien Sabe.”

Grupo Frontera & Shakira Reach No. 1 Simultaneously on Two Billboard Charts with “(Entre Paréntesis)”

The Regional Mexican band’s collaboration with Shakira, “(Entre Paréntesis),” has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay and Regional Mexican Airplay.

The track is Shakira’s second regional Mexican pair-up, and her first to rule both charts simultaneously.

On Latin Airplay, “(Entre Paréntesis)” jumps 2-1 to top the overall Latin radio list despite a 3% dip in audience impressions, to 9.63 million, on U.S. reporting radio stations during the May 3-9 tracking week, according to Luminate.

With the ascension, Shakira adds her record-extending 23rd No. 1 on Latin Airplay among women in the chart’s almost 30-year history.

Grupo Frontera, meanwhile, captures its third champ, after “Bebe Dame,” with Fuerza Regida, for one week atop in 2023 and “Un X100to,” with Bad Bunny, with a six-week domination in 2023.

“(Entre Paréntesis)” is the ninth single off Shakira’s 12th studio album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, released March 22. The set made a splash across Billboard’s charts, including a No. 1 start on Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums, and a top 10 debut on Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts (dated April 6).

“(Entre Paréntesis)” is the second regional Mexican song to concurrently top Latin Airplay and Regional Mexican Airplay. Previously, “Por El Contrario” by Becky G with siblings Leonardo and Angela Aguilar, topped both rankings for one week on the chart dated March 9.

Over on Regional Mexican Airplay, “(Paréntesis)” takes the lead (rising 2-1) with 7.32 million audience impressions, down 4% across regional Mexican stations. The move earns Shakira a first No. 1 on the tally, after “El Jefe,” with Fuerza Regida, took her to a No. 9 high in Nov. 2023.

The Edinburg, Texas band picks up its ninth No. 1, and enters a tie with Banda MS de Sergio Lizarraga and Grupo Firme for the third-most No. 1s this decade.

Grupo Frontera’s Christian Nodal-Collab “Ya Pedo Quien Sabe” Reaches No. 1 on Billboard‘s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart

The Regional Mexican group’s first collaboration with Christian Nodal’s “Ya Pedo Quien Sabe” rises 3-1 on Billboard‘s Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated May 11.

All eight of Grupo Frontera’s leaders are collaborations.

The duet crowns Regional Mexican Airplay after a 17% gain in audience impressions, to 7.8 million, earned in the U.S. during the April 26-May 2 tracking week, according to Luminate.

“Ya Pedo Quien Sabe” was released on March 7 via the Grupo Frontera label.

The song is the second cut from Frontera’s forthcoming album, Jugando A Que No Pada Nada (slated for May 10 release).

Ya Pedo Quien Sabe” was composed by Edgar Barrera, Horacio Palencia, Nathan Galante and Diego Bollella and produced by Barrera.

Plus, he enters a tie with La Arrolladora Banda el Limón de René Camacho for the fifth-most rulers in the Regional Mexican Airplay’s chart’s nearly 30-year history. They trail Calibre 50 who remains at the lead, way ahead of its next competitor, with 25 No. 1s, Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga with 20, Intocable (19) and Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga (18).

Grupo Frontera picks-up its eighth No. 1; a collection that began a little over a year ago, when “Que Vuelvas,” with Carín León, topped the Regional Mexican radio ranking for six weeks starting the Jan. 28, 2023-dated list.

Further, “Ya Pedo Quien Sabe” takes the crown from Calibre 50’s “Días Buenos, Días Malos” after the latter’s one week in charge. The song drops to No. 14, marking the biggest fall from No. 1 since Los Temerarios’ “Sin Que Lo Sepas Tú” equally tumbled 1-14 in 2007.

With the Regional Mexican Airplay locked, “Ya Pedo Quien Sabe” next looks to give each act a new No. 1 on the overall Latin Airplay chart, where it climbs 10-5 with a 16% gain, and adds 8 million in audience.

The Regional Mexican newcomers combine efforts for their first No. 1 on any Billboard chart as “First Love” rises 3-1 on the April 27-dated Regional Mexican Airplay ranking.

“I feel grateful and honored that Edgardo Nuñez believed in my composition and I cannot say ‘thank you’ enough to my fans for supporting me in this dream,” 21-year-old Ortiz tells Billboard.

“First Love” accrued 7.95 million audience impressions in the U.S. toward the April 27 Billboard ranking (April 12-18 tracking week), according to Luminate; that’s a 16% gain from the week prior. The song ejects Banda MS’ “Tu Perfume” from the penthouse, which falls to No. 2 with a 6% dip, to 7.1 million impressions.

“First Love” caught immediate viral attention through TikTok, where Ortiz was named #Rompiendo Artist of the month in March by TikTok. To date, the song has sparked nearly 600,000 videos. Streams, however, experience a 4% dip during the tracking week, to 3.5 million official U.S. clicks.

As “First Love” rises to No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay, it takes BadSin to its second champ in 2024 and 13th overall. Earlier in this year, the indie label topped the ranking through Ortiz’s brother Gerardo Ortiz’s “Ahí No Era,” for one week in charge in February.

Unlike Oscar Ortiz, whose first and only Billboard entry arrived through “First Love,” Nuñez has placed four other tracks on the charts, including “El Humo De Gallo,” with Banda Los Sebastianes de Saul Plata, which debuts at No. 34 on Regional Mexican Airplay on the current list.

Beyond its Regional Mexican Airplay coronation, ‘First Love” climbs 9-5 on the overall Latin Airplay chart, for its new peak, with an 18% gain in overall impressions, to 8.32 million.

Ana Bárbara to Launch 30+ Date Tour to Celebrate Three Decades in Music

The 53-year-old Mexican singer will celebrate her three decades in music with a 30-plus date tour that will kick off August 2 in Reno, Nevada.

Ana Bárbara Called the Reina Grupera Tour 2024, produced by Reventon Promotions and EDIM Talent in a joint effort, the stint will make stops in Houston, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta and other major cities across the United States before wrapping up in Chicago on November. 16.

“To be able to celebrate my 30th anniversary with the real protagonists, my fans, is special because I can be an artist, composer, singer, but if I don’t have them, then I might as well just celebrate at home,” she tells Billboard. “Those who were there at the very beginning have passed this musical taste to their children, to new generations, so it is a family celebration because Ana Bárbara’s music has always been very familiar, I feel very excited.”

Known as the Grupera Queen (La Reina Grupera), last year, Bárbara became the first regional Mexican female songwriter to ever receive a BMI Icon Award, the highest honor presented by the performance rights organization.

Born Altagracia Ugalde Motta in San Luis Potosí, she is one of the most consequential female artists in regional Mexican music, which has for many years been dominated by men.

Since launching her career in the ’90s, she’s racked up 16 hits on the Billboard Regional Mexican Airplay chart and 12 on Hot Latin Songs.

Earlier this year, Bárbara was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at Premio Lo Nuestro, where she dedicated her award to Mexican women and Mexican music.

“The idea for this production is to have a great impact because it takes us back to this era where the woman with boots and sombrero was not the common denominator, but from day one I felt very proud of my roots and that pride is what is going to be projected in the production along with the music,” she said.

Gerardo Ortiz Earns 13th No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with “Ahí No Era”

The 34-year-old Mexican American Regional Mexican singer-songwriter has notched his 13th No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart as “Ahí No Era” advances 4-1 on the list dated February 17.

As “Ahí No Va” advances, it unseats Xavi’s “La Diabla” from the lead after one week in charge. The latter dips 1-2 with 6.7 million, that’s a 29% decline from the week prior.

With 13 No. 1s to his account, Ortiz still has the second-most among soloists, behind Christian Nodal’s 15 No. 1s. Among all acts, Calibre 50 has the most, with 24.

As “Ahí No Era” lands at the summit, Ortiz becomes just the sixth soloist to rule Regional Mexican Airplay in the past year.

He joins Christian Nodal (“Un Cumbión Dolido” in June 2023), Alejandro Fernández (“No Es Que Me Quiera Ir” and “Difícil Tu Caso,” last August and November respectively), Carin León (“Indispensable,” last August-September), El Fantasma (“La Vida Cara,” last September), Eden Muñoz (“Como En Los Viejos Tiempos,” January 27-dated list), and Xavi (“La Diabla,” chart dated February 10).

La Fiera de Ojinaga Earns Second No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with “Neta Que No”

The an up-and-coming Mexican Regional Musican band has scored its second career No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated January 20 as its latest single, “Neta Que No,” rises from No. 2 to No. 1.

“Neta Que No” rules the chart after a 17% surge in radio airplay audience impressions, to 7.3 million earned in the U.S. in the January 5-11 tracking week, according to Luminate.

The track takes home the chart’s Greatest Gainer trophy, awarded to the song with the largest gain in audience impressions among the chart’s 40 titles.

The track succeeds Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda’s “Buscandole A La Suerte,” which drops to No. 2 after one week at the helm.

“Neta Que No,” released August 11 via Azteca/Fonovisa/UMLE, was written by Cesar Morquecho and Eduardo Anguiano, and produced by Humberto Novoa and Mauricio Palma.

The single earns Azteca its fifth No. 1 at the format, after “La Luna de Miel” (2022) and three leaders by La Maquinaria Norteña: “50 y Cincuenta” (2022), “Eres Ese Algo” (2023) and “Te Quiero Ver” (2023).

Elsewhere, “Vas A Querer Volver” repeats Banda Los Recoditos’ last two top 10 entries on the overall Latin Airplay chart, jumping 8-7; “Me Siento a Todo Dar” and “Fuerte No Soy” also reached No. 7 high in 2022.

Maluma Makes Billboard Chart History as His Carin Leon-Collab “Según Quien” Tops Two Latin Charts

Maluma is back at the top of the charts… And, he’s making history in the process.

The 29-year-old Colombian singer and Carin Leon’s single “Según Quien” has advanced 3-1 to lead Billboard’s December 16-dated Latin Airplay chart.

The move gives Maluma his 24th champ, while León captures his second.

“Según Quien” crowns the all-genre airplay chart with a 50% gain in audience impressions, to 13.2 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending December 7, according to Luminate.

The song is one of 24 tracks from Maluma’s Grammy-nominated Don Juan album, which debuted at No. 11 on the Top Latin Albums chart last September.

In addition to its first week at No. 1 on Latin Airplay, “Según Quien” also lands at the summit on Regional Mexican Airplay (rising 11-1) for its first week in charge, and gives León his fifth leader there. He previously reached No. 1 with the three-week champ “Indispensable,” his first ruler with no accompanying acts, last August. Maluma claims his second, after “Cada Quien” in 2022.

Notably, as the Maluma-León partnership takes over both tallies, Maluma becomes the first urban artist to lead the rankings simultaneously since Latin Airplay and Regional Mexican Airplay launched in 1994.

Only two other urban artists have reached the penthouse on Regional Mexican Airplay: Cazzu and Santa Fe Klan, through their equally billed collab “Tú y Tú,” with Los Ángeles Azules, in May; the song peaked at No. 5 on Latin Airplay during the same period.

Further, “Según Quien” becomes the fifth champ by two co-billed male soloists on Latin Airplay out of the 33 No. 1s in 2023. They include:
