Juan Luis Guerra Earns 12th No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay Chart with “Mambo 23”

Juan Luis Guerra has returned to the top of the charts…

The 66-year-old Dominican Grammy-winning musician, singer, composer and record producer is back at the summit of Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart as “Mambo 23” advances 3-1 to lead the November 25-dated list.

Juan Luis GuerraThe new champ arrives nine years after he last led through “Tus Besos” in 2014, for one week in charge.

“Mambo 23” climbs to No. 1 with a 9% gain in audience impressions, to 4.45 million, earned during the November 10-16 tracking week, according to Luminate. The song, released September 22 via Rimas, is the first single from Guerra’s recently released EP Radio Güira.

With the new champ, Guerra collects his 12th No. 1 on Tropical Airplay and breaks a tie with India for the eighth-most, a score led by Marc Anthony with 35 champs since the ranking began in 1994.

Here’s the scoreboard:

35, Marc Anthony
29, Victor Manuelle
23, Prince Royce
18, Romeo Santos
14, Elvis Crespo
14, Gilberto Santa Rosa
13, Jerry Rivera
12, Juan Luis Guerra 440
11, India

Guerra last landed at the summit with “Tus Besos” in 2014. (He notched seven hits between “Tus Besos” and “Mambo 23,” including six top 10s.)

The nine-year span becomes the longest between No. 1s since Don Omar took an equal nine years (and eight months) to dominate Tropical Airplay with the one-week ruler “Dutty Love,” featuring Natti Natasha (April 2012) and “Se Menea,” with Nio García, (Dec. 2021).

“Mambo 23” rules the tropical ranking as it ejects Chayanne’s “Bailando Bachata” from its 14-week domination; along with Manuel Turizo’s “La Bachata,” the third-longest run this decade, both with 14 weeks atop.

The pair trail Prince Royce’s “Carita de Inocente” with 29 weeks at No. 1, the most in the 2020’s decade, and Daddy Yankee and Marc Anthony’s “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta” (22 weeks in charge).

Elsewhere, “Mambo 23” lifts 25-21 on the overall Latin Airplay, Guerra’s highest rank since “Muchachita Linda” reached No. 15 in October 2015.

Elena Rose Signs Record Deal with Warner Music Latina

Elena Rose is ready to record more of her own music…

Warner Music Latina has signed a record deal with the Venezuelan singer-songwriter.

Elena RoseOver the past two years, Rose has become the go-to songwriter for artists like Becky GSelena GomezRauw AlejandroJennifer Lopez and Maluma, among others, while also releasing her own music (“La Ducha,” “Picachu”) via her indie label, Guerrera de la Luz.

“It feels like the beginning of something that was meant to be and I feel grateful that I am in a place where I feel understood, comfortable, but also excited to grow and learn even more and get out of that comfort zone to get to where we want to go so it can be truly timeless, which is a key word for me,” Rose said about the deal. “I think I’m surrounded by an amazing team that understands my vision and is willing to come with me on this crazy ride of being timeless.”

Following a move from Venezuela to Miami to pursue a career in music, Rose cites Becky G recording one of her songs, “Dollar,” as her “big break.” The track peaked at No. 27 on Hot Latin Songs (chart dated Nov. 1, 2019). Since, Rose has been on a spree writing back-to-back hits such as Maluma and J.Lo’s “Pa Ti,” Daddy Yankee and Marc Anthony’s “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta” and she co-wrote five of the seven songs on Gomez’s first Spanish project, Revelación, released last year.

“Elena is a unique artist. Her lyrics, her voice, her presence and the ability she has to convey emotions is unparalleled. We are proud to be able to work together to fulfill her vision, deliver her music to the public, and make it timeless,” offered Alejandro Duque, president at Warner Music Latina.

Added, Ben Tischker, Rose’s manager: “From the moment I met her I knew she was a once in a lifetime talent. The combination of her voice, and unique songwriting ability is a rarity. It’s been an honor to be by her side as she grows into the amazing artist that she is going to become. I can’t think of a better team of people to do this with than Alejandro Duque, Hector Rivera and the team at Warner Latin.”

Rose is currently working on new music that will be part of her debut album that, which is expected before the end of the year.

Billboard’s year-end music recaps represent aggregated metrics for each artist, title, label and music contributor on the weekly charts dated Nov. 21, 2020, through Nov. 13, 2021. The rankings for MRC Data-based recaps reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales or streaming during the weeks that the titles appeared on a respective chart during the tracking year. Any activity registered before or after a title’s chart run isn’t considered in these rankings. That methodology detail, and the November-November time period, account for some of the difference between these lists and the calendar-year recaps that are independently compiled by MRC Data.

Daddy Yankee Breaks Record for Most Top 10s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with Marc Anthony Collab “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta”

Daddy Yankee is rompe-iendo records…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and record producer has broken the record for the most top 10s on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, as “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta,” his collaboration with Marc Anthony, rises 11-8 on the January 16 survey.

Daddy Yankee x Marc Anthony with Marc

Daddy Yankee breaks out of a tie with Enrique Iglesias and takes possession of the mark for the most top 10s since the chart began in 1994.

The song’s advance on the chart was assisted by an 11% boost in audience impressions, to 8 million, collected in the week ending January 10, according to MRC Data.

Going down the list of the artists with at least 25 top 10s in the history of Latin Airplay, only one female act secures a space:

Most Top 10s, Latin Airplay
Daddy Yankee, 41
Enrique Iglesias, 40
J Balvin, 32
Shakira, 31
Ricky Martin, 27
Marc Anthony, 26
Marco Antonio Solis, 26
Ozuna, 26
Cristian Castro, 25
Wisin & Yandel, 25

“De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta” was co-written by Daddy Yankee and Marc Anthony alongside Edgar ‘Edge’ Barrera, Elena Rosa, Rafael A. Pina Nieves and produced by longtime hit maker, Sergio George.

The salsa collaboration is Yankee’s 41st Latin Airplay top 10, dating back to his first top 10 hit “Lo Que Pasó, Pasó” in 2005. Marc Anthony, meanwhile, has logged 26 top 10s in four decades of chart history, 11 of which have hit No. 1.

Elsewhere, “De Vuelta” dips 13-14 on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart with declines in digital sales and streams. On Tropical Airplay, however, it remains at No. 1 for a third week.

Daddy Yankee Teams Up with Marc Anthony for Salsa Single “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta”

Daddy Yankee is getting into the swing of it…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican reggaetonero has joined voices with Daddy Yankee on the salsa single “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta.”

Daddy Yankee x Marc Anthony

Anthony, known as the King of Salsa, cedes the opening spotlight to Daddy Yankee, whose voice is well-suited for a traditional salsa track.

The made-for-dancing insta-classic, which, in vintage Marc Anthony style, begins with a slow intro that then breaks into an uptempo dance beat, pairs two icons who unexpectedly meet each other halfway.

Sergio George produced the track, a fusion of two very different distinct voices with a deep respect for the genre that will no doubt give an infusion of energy to the tropical charts.
