Rosalia Added to Headliners Roster for Los Angeles’ Calibash

Rosalia is Bash-ful

The 30-year-old Spanish singer/songwriter has been confirmed as a headliner for the annual Calibash, taking place January 21 and 22 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

RosaliaIn a display of women’s increasing clout in the Latin urban landscape, Rosalia will be joined by Karol G as a headlining act.

They join a previously billed group of headliners that also includes OzunaMyke Towers and Farruko.

The Latin urban megafest, widely known as the pioneer and still the most storied in a crowded Latin urban festival landscape, will also feature performances by Ivy Queen and Becky G, as well as Jhayco, Nío García, Zion & Lennox, Blessd, Sech and Feid.

Rosalía and Karol G will both perform one-offs, as their U.S. tours will have concluded by January. Tickets are already on sale.

All told, seven artists will perform per night at Calibash, a departure from the fest’s early years of dozens of acts on the bill, and also a departure from more crowded rosters. It’s part of an effort to more carefully curate Calibash, says Alessandra Alarcón, president of SBS Entertainment, which created and promotes the show.

Alarcón says that when she took over Calibash, “I thought the audience would be OK with there being less acts but more quality sets. I thought if we could edit this down and give the headliners half hour, 45 minutes, I think people would be stoked to see that. And I’m happy to say I was right.”

Last year, Calibash sold out three nights at Crypto.com Arena, even though the shows took place in the midst of a COVID-19 surge.

Calibash was the first Latin music festival devoted to urban music that not only took place consistently every year and always on the West Coast, but also became known for its performances — planned and unplanned — by mainstream artists like French Montana, Cardi B and memorably in 2016, Justin Bieber, in addition to a slew of other stars.

Both Calibash performances will kick-off with a pre-show fan festival that celebrates Latin music and culture at L.A. Live with surprise performances, experiences and more.

Calibash is owned and operated by SBS Entertainment’s parent company, Spanish Broadcasting System, which owns and operates some of Latin music’s top radio stations in the country, including Los Angeles’ KXOL-FM La Mega 96.3, the event’s official station.

Tainy Renews Worldwide Publishing Agreement with Sony Music Publishing

Tainy is staying with Sony…

Sony Music Publishing has renewed its worldwide publishing agreement with the 32-year-old Puerto Rican chart-topping songwriter and producer.

TainyThe deal extends the company’s longstanding relationship with the hitmaker, which began in 2005 when he launched his career in Puerto Rico.

“I am grateful that my career has allowed me to reach new heights not only on the artistic and creative side, but also on the business side,” Tainy (real name Marco Masis) said in a statement. “And I appreciate having such great partners on the publishing end. Excited for the next chapter with the SMP family.”

Since kicking off his career, Tainy has become a go-to collaborator for artists such as Bad BunnyJ BalvinZion & Lennox and Wisin & Yandel. Most recently, Tainy produced nine songs on Bad Bunny’s record-breaking album, Un Verano Sin Ti, including “Ojitos Lindos” with Bomba Estéreo and the Rauw Alejandro-assisted “Party.”

In October, Tainy made history by becoming the first person to spend 100 weeks at No. 1 on any of Billboard‘s producers charts thanks to tracks like Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni,” Bad Bunny and JhayCo‘s “Dákiti” and Kali Uchis‘ “Telepatía.”

“Tainy is one of the leading songwriters, artists, and producers in music today. He also happens to be a fantastic human being – as humble as he is talented. I have seen firsthand how he works with other artists and brings out the best in them, while at the same time adding just the right touch to the production or song to make it a lasting global hit,” added Jorge Mejia, Sony Music Publishing president & CEO, Latin America and U.S. Latin. “As an artist, he continues to rack up success after success. We are truly honored to have Tainy be part of our family and can’t wait to see what’s next in his stellar career.”

Currently, Tainy is working on Myke Towers’ upcoming record, according to SMP.

Gloria “Goyo” Martínez Helps Launch the Latin Music Industry’s BLM-Inspired ‘Conciencia Collective’

GloriaGoyoMartínez is standing in solidarity with the Black community…

The 37-year-old Colombian singer and member of the Latin Grammy-winning hip-hop group ChocQuibTown has joined the Conciencia Collective

Gloria "Goyo" Martínez

The recently-announced initiative, comprised of more than 35 executives from the Latin music industry — including artists, activists, artist managers, publicists, among others – aims to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Mattermovement in an effort to create awareness about racial and social injustice.

Conciencia Collective was born amid national outrage in the U.S. over the recent killings of George FloydBreonna Taylorand other black citizens who’ve died at the hands of police. The intention is to “educate our colleagues, artists and peers of influence in order to gain their advocacy. Our ongoing initiatives also focus on the many issues affecting our Latin community,” according to a press release.

Goyo, a leading, Afro-Latinx voice launched the initiative with a poignant statement.

“I’m talking to you as a Black woman, rapper, singer, born in South America. In an invisible region, a jewel in my country; a Black village,” writes Goyo. “The experiences that we Black women live change you from the moment you leave your home. Society reminds you that at home, you live in a protected space. At home, we are educated with tools to go out into a racist world. As Howard C. Stevensonsaid, ‘we [as Black people] are educated with a kind of a racial literacy.'”

Goyo kicked off a “Conciencia Talk” alongside Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Rafa Pabónin partnership with Latinx-focused media/news company MiTú on Friday, June 26.

The “online dialogue” was moderated by Afro-Colombian Dr. Aurora Vergara Figueroa, director of the Afrodiasporic Studies Centerat ICESI University.

Quotes on solidarity and racial inequality from more than 100 Latin artists, including Leslie GraceAnuel AAJesse & JoyMyke TowersCarla MorrisonZion & Lennox, and Farruko, among others, will be posted weekly on MiTú’s page.

“In order to consciously educate the Latinx community and change the derogatory narratives towards people of color within our community, we commit to leading with acknowledgement in solidarity with the Black community to enable the rise of leaders in our respective communities,” the statement continues.

“We want to extend our platforms to our brothers and sisters so that their voices and needs can be heard. We want our brothers and sisters across the U.S. and Latin America to know that we see them, we hear them and we will champion equality and justice on behalf of our industry.”

J Balvin’s “No Es Justo” with Zion & Lennox Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

It’s a little sweet justice for J Balvin

The 33-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer has earned his 12th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, as “No Es Justo” with Zion & Lennox rising 3-1 in its 16th week on the list (dated November 24).

J Balvin

“It’s really special to have ‘No Es Justo’ reach No. 1 this week,” Balvin tells Billboard. “It’s a blessing to see music from VIBRAS still topping the charts and showing that reggaeton continues to be the sound leading the way in connecting with Latin radio and fans… and it’s an honor to share my 12th No. 1 with creative brothers like Zion & Lennox.”

“No Es Justo” rises to the summit due in part to a 19 percent boost in audience impressions (to 13.1 million) in the week ending November 18, according to Nielsen Music. It’s the sixth No. 1 for Zion & Lennox.

The song is the second charting collaboration from J Balvin with Zion & Lennox. They previously paired up for Zion & Lennox’s former leader “Otra Vez,” featuring J Balvin, which reigned for one week in November 2016.

“No Es Justo” concurrently leads the Latin Pop Songs airplay and the Latin Rhythm airplay charts. On the former, it takes an 18-week trip to the top, becoming the longest climb to No. 1 since December 3, 2016, when Farruko‘s “Chillax,” featuring Ky-Mani Marley reached the top in its 21st week.

Anitta is telling her story to the world…

Anitta

But Anitta has been a big deal for nearly decade now, especially in her native Brazil. That’s why Netflix is telling her story with the docuseries.
