Yng Lvcas Earns First No. 1 on Billboard Latin Airplay Chart with Peso Pluma-Collab “La Bebe”

Yng Lvcas is celebrating a Billboard first… 

The 23-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter and rapper has picked up his first No. 1 on Billboard’Latin Airplay chart as “La Bebe,” with Peso Pluma, ascends 2-1 to lead the list dated July 15.

“La Bebe” takes over Latin Airplay with 10 million audience impressions, up 1% from the week prior, earned in the U.S. in the week ending July 6, according to Luminate.

The song replaces Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s “X100to” from its six-week domination, dipping 2-1 with a 14% decline in impressions, to 9.3 million.

“La Bebe” grants Lvcas his first Latin Airplay champ, who joins four other acts who have also taken over the tally in 2023 with their first leaders: Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera through “Bebe Dame” (one week, March 25), Marshmello with the Manuel Turizo-assisted “El Merengue” (one week, June 10), and his contemporary Peso Pluma, as “Ella Baila Sola,” with Eslabon Armado, placed the Mexican at the lead for one week (June 17).

Thus, the latter collects his second ruler.

Further, “La Bebe” is the only collaborative charting effort by Lvcas on any Billboard chart. He captured his maiden entry on any Billboard tally when the original version of the song, sans Pluma, debuted on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 152, reaching a No. 2 high in April, after the remix with Pluma dropped.

Plus, it also sees a fall in sales: 12% from the previous week to 1,000 downloads.

Peso Pluma Breaks Bad Bunny’s Record for Most Simultaneous Tracks on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

The 24-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter, whose third studio album Génesis recently earned him a first No. 1 on any Billboard album chart, has placed a total 25 titles on the Hot Latin Songs chart in the week ending June 29, according to Luminate.

Peso PlumaIn the process, Peso Pluma breaks the record for the most simultaneous tracks on the tally, surpassing Bad Bunny’s 24-title record, held since May 1, 2022, concurrent with the week his Un Verano Sin Ti album arrived on the album charts.

With 101.8 million streams, Peso Pluma’s 17-track set Genesis boasts the largest streaming week ever for a Regional Mexican album.

As a result of Génesis’ strong streaming performance, 10 of its cuts debut on the Hot Latin Songs chart, which blends streams, airplay and sales to rank the 50 most popular Latin songs in the U.S. “Luna,” with Junior H, leads the new arrivals at No. 5, with 13 million official on-demand streams earned in the U.S.

Since Peso Pluma’s maiden entry on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in April 2022, the Regional Mexican juggernaut has placed 31 total entries on the list, including his collab with Eslabon Armado, “Ella Baila Sola,” which leads the survey in its 13th week, and counting. The song concurrently dominated Billboard Global 200 for six weeks — the most for a Spanish-language tune. Plus, the pair-up logged a historic top 10 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first regional Mexican top 10 in the chart’s 64-year history.

Back on Hot Latin Songs, two other songs from Génesis start in the upper region: “Lady Gaga,” with Gabito Ballesteros and Junior H, at No. 6, and “VVS,” with Edgardo Nuñez and Los Dareyes de La Sierra, which rounds out the top 10 crew at No. 10.

Further, “Rosa Pastel,” with Jasiel Nuñez, conquers Hot Latin Songs as the Greatest Gainer/Streaming song of the week with a robust 113% gain, to 6.4 million clicks in the U.S. during the June 23-29 tracking week.

In addition to his impressive achievements this week, Peso Pluma debuts seven songs on the Hot 100. With the newcomers, he has a total of 14 concurrent titles on the all-genre ranking, the most for a regional Mexican artist ever and the second-most among all Latin artists, behind Bad Bunny who placed 22, 20 and 17 simultaneous songs during the May 21-, May 28-, and June 4, 2022-dated charts, respectively.

Peso Pluma Earns First No. 1 on Any Billboard Album Chart with “Genesis”

The 24-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter’s album Génesis rises to No. 1 (from No. 35) on the Top Latin Albums chart dated July 8 after its first full tracking week.

It also advances 10-1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart.

Génesis’ coronation arrives a week after the album debuted on both lists dated July 1 with only one day of activity. The original version of the album, comprising 14 tracks, was released on an off-cycle Thursday (June 22), the final day of the June 16-22 tracking week.

The new Génesis, containing three bonus tracks, was released on June 30. Both versions of the album have been combined for tracking and charting purposes, while the original version has been removed from platforms.

According to LuminateGénesis earned 73,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first official tracking week ending June 29. It becomes the biggest week by units earned for a regional Mexican album ever, dating back to when the all-genre Billboard 200 chart began ranking by units in December 2014. The previous largest week by total units arrived just less than two months ago, when Eslabon Armado’s Desvelado launched with 44,000 units (May 13-dated list).

An equivalent album unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album (track equivalent album units, TEA), or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album (streaming equivalent album units, SEA).

As is standard among new artists, streaming powers nearly all of Génesis’ first-week totals. Out of its 73,000 units, 72,000 stem from SEA units. That figure equals to 101.18 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs. Traditional album sales contribute just under 1,000 of the remaining balance, with a slice of negligible units deriving from TEA.

With 101.8 million streams, Génesis boasts the largest streaming week ever for a regional Mexican album. Previously, Eslabon Armado’s Desvelado drew the largest, with 63.51 million official U.S. streams (May 13).

Génesis becomes only the fifth Latin album to garner at least 100 million on-demand streams for its songs in a single week, following multiple weeks by Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Titwo for Bunny’s YHLQMDLG, one for Bunny’s El Último Tour del Mundo, and one for Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito.

Further, Génesis becomes the fourth regional Mexican effort to lead Top Latin Albums this decade, after Alejandro Fernández’s Hecho en México (one week, Feb. 29, 2020) and two Eslabon Armado albums, Vibras de Noche (one week, Aug. 2020) and Desvelado (one week, May13).

Elsewhere, Génesis launches at No. 3 on the all-genre Billboard 200, his first entry and top 10 there. The set concurrently outpaces the two other regional Mexican albums which have seized a spot in the top 10, both by Eslabon Armado: Nostalgia (No. 9 debut and peak, May 2022) and Desvelado (No. 6 debut and peak, May 13).

The 19-year-old Mexican-American singer and daughter of Mexican singer Pepe Aguilar will make her hosting debut at Premios Juventud, which will take place July 20 in Puerto Rico.

A three time Premios Juventud winner, Aguilar has earned three Latin Grammy nominations during her career.

The Premios Juventud will be broadcast live on Univision.

This year’s Premios Juventud theme is “Exprésate a tu Manera.”

Gerardo Coronel Earns First No. 1 on Any Billboard Chart as “Que Onda Perdida” Tops Regional Mexican Airplay Chart

The 27-year-old Mexican corrido and alterna movimiento singer/songwriter has earned his first No. 1 on a Billboard chart as “Que Onda Perdida,” with Grupo Firme, rises from No. 2 to lead the Regional Mexican Airplay chart dated July 1.

It’s a first win for Coronel on his fourth chart visit. The Michoacán, Mexico-born singer/songwriter has placed a total of four entries on the Regional Mexican Airplay list, dating back to the No. 20-peaking “Te Quiero a Morir” in 2015.

In between, “Te Deseo Lo Mejor,” with Pancho Barraza, reached No. 17 in 2021.

He broke the top 10 barrier, however, in 2023, when “Te Felicito,” his first entry unaccompanied by any other act, rose to No. 7 on the June 17-dated ranking. The song rebounds to No. 7 on the current chart after peaking at No. 5 last week.

Grupo Firme, meanwhile, captures its eighth Regional Mexican Airplay champ among 20 chart entries — 11 of which went top 10. The new No. 1 follows “Alaska,” with Camilo, which crowned the tally for one week last November.

“Que Onda Perdida” tops Regional Mexican Airplay after over two months.

The banda song entered the chart on the April 22-dated tally and arrived in the top 10 in its third week. It has remained in the upper region during a nine-week journey, and ousts Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” from the lead, which drops 1-2 after a four-week domination (down 14% in audience, to 7 million).

Beyond its No. 1 success on Regional Mexican Airplay, “Que Onda Perdida” continues to advance on the Latin Airplay chart, which ranks all songs regardless of genre. There, the tune lifts from No. 6 to its No. 3 high, the highest ranking for both acts, and a first top 10 for Coronel who previously reached the top 20 with “Te Felicito” last week (chart dated June 24).

The Regional Mexican band and the 24-year-old Mexican rising star’s popular collaboration “Ella Baila Sola” returns to No. 1, from the No. 2 spot, on the Billboard Global 200 chart dated July 1.

It drew 58.2 million streams (down 10%) and sold 2,000 (down 6%) worldwide June 16-22.

On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, Yng Lvcas and Peso Pluma’s “La Bebe” ascends 3-2., adding a fifth week at its highpoint, while Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” elevates 7-5, after reaching No. 2.

The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, which started in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

The Regional Mexican group’s team-up with the 24-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter continues to pay dividends as “Ella Baila Sola” commands yet another Billboard chart: It rises 3-1 to lead the Latin Airplay list dated June 17.

“Ella Baila Sola” locks its No. 1 spot on the overall Latin Airplay chart with a 1% gain in audience impressions, to 10.4 million, logged during the June 2-8 tracking week, according to Luminate.

The collab ousts another pair-up from the lead: Marshmello and Manuel Turizo’s “El Merengue” ruled the June 10-dated survey, and falls to No. 3 on the current chart.

As “Ella Baila Sola” hits No. 1 on Latin Airplay, Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma both cement the Regional Mexican genre’s authority across Latin radio stations in the U.S.

It’s the third regional Mexican song to top the tally in 2023, after Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera’s “Bebe Dame” (one week, March 25) and Grupo Frontera and Bad Bunny’s “Un x100to” (three weeks starting the May 20-dated list).

Those three champs join Alejandro Fernández’s “Caballero” and La Adictiva Banda San José de Mesillas’Escondidos,” which ruled for one week each in 2020, making a total of five No. 1 hits on Latin Airplay this decade. With just three years in, the ‘20s might match or outperform the ‘90s, when 18 regional Mexican tracks coronated Latin Airplay — six in 1997 alone — the largest provider of No. 1-charting titles stemming from the genre since the chart launched in 1994.

As “Ella Baila” arrives at the summit, both Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma score their first No. 1 there.

Eslabon Armado secured a No. 6-high through the Ulices Chaidez-collab “Te Encontré” in June 2021. Meanwhile, Peso Pluma’s “La Bebe,” with Ynv Lvcas, rises 8-6 on the current ranking.

“Ella Baila Sola” has now commanded six Billboard charts.

Peso Pluma to Drop New Album “Genesis” in Late June

The 24-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter will drop his new album, Genesis, on June 22, the Regional Mexican star has announced.

While it’s not his debut album — the Guadalajara-born artist released Ah Y Qué? in 2020 and a year later Efectos Secundarios — it feels like a momentous LP given the winning streak that has catapulted him to the top of the charts in the last few months.

Rapidly becoming a household name in the U.S. and beyond, Peso has now become the first artist to dominate both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. simultaneously with two different songs: The blockbuster hit “Ella Baila Sola” with Eslabon Armado and his unprecedented “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 55” with Bizarrap, which dropped in May.

The album announcement comes weeks after his collab with Argentine producer Bizarrap who, thanks to Peso, experiments with regional Mexican music for the first time for one of his music sessions.

The song scored the Mexican singer his ninth top 10 song on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. Elsewhere, “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 55” makes its No. 31 debut on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 ranking dated June 17.

Peso Pluma is currently on his first-ever U.S. tour. The Live Nation-produced stint kicked off in April and will make stops in Nashville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Chicago.

Peso Pluma Celebrating Historic Selection to Spotify RADAR Program

The 23-year-old Mexican singer/songwriter, at the center of today’s Regional Mexican music wave, is officially part of the Spotify RADAR program, which is dedicated to spotlighting and supporting emerging artists at all stages of their development.

Peso Pluma“It’s pretty big to me because I’m the first Mexican artist to do this. I’m so proud and very thankful,” says Peso Pluma of his selection. “It’s big for the country, the genre and the industry in general. We’re doing pretty good and we’re going to keep working to share our music.”

In the past, the program has provided a platform for artists across the globe, including The Kid LAROI, Zach Bryan, Doechii, Quevedo, PinkPatheress, and over 500 others since its start in in 2020.

For many, Peso Pluma appeared out of nowhere. “Ella Baila Sola,” Eslabon Armado’s smash hit with Peso Pluma, was as explosive a collaboration in the Spanish-language music space. Peso Pluma quickly became the de facto face of a movement overnight, much to his own surprise.

“I knew this was gonna happen, but I didn’t know at what level and what speed,” he tells Billboard. “I knew I was gonna do good in Mexico and the Spanish-speaking countries, but this went worldwide [so fast]. I’m thankful for that.”

For his early fans, Peso Pluma has been creating earworm collaborative anthems for a handful of years, through early hits like “El Belicón alongside Raúl Vega  – which went viral on social media and brought in 10 million views on YouTube in a single month – and projects including his debut set, Ah y Qué?

To date, “Ella Baila Sola” has secured a number of firsts, most notably becoming the first regional Mexican song to reach the top 10 of the Hot 100 chart — peaking at No. 5 – and the first to top Billboard‘Streaming Songs chart in its 10-year history.

Peso Pluma and Eslabon Armado also broke a number of Spotify records, becoming the all-time most-streamed música mexicana track in one day globally and the most streamed Latin track in the U.S in one single day last month.

“Música mexicana is no longer regional – it’s global,” says Spotify head of U.S. Latin artist partnerships Eddie Santiago, noting the genre’s growth of 431% over the last five years. “It’s been incredible supporting Peso Pluma’s meteoric rise, and look forward to this next phase of his career.”

While the effect of “Ella Baila Sola” has led to unprecedented global attention on the regional Mexican space, it’s important to note that the regional Mexican genre isn’t exactly a genre. Encompassing an array of unmistakably Mexican styles of music, including norteño, corridos, banda, rancheras, mariachi and more, regional Mexican serves as an overarching umbrella term for a set of genres that had never before been afforded nuance on a mainstream level.

Growing up on artists like Ariel Camacho, Peso Pluma, born Hassan Laija, developed his love for música mexicana as a kid spending his early years growing up in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Later, the influence of hip-hop and reggaeton also found their way into the songs he’d write. Today, he painstakingly stitches together 19th century Mexican sounds with modern genres, bringing both to the Spotify stage ahead of his upcoming debut album, and a single that he’s been teasing on social media.

So what does Peso Pluma want to do next?

“I just wanna go to the Grammys and win something, you know? There’s too many things I wanna accomplish,” says the artist. “I want to have my album be welcomed by the people, I want it to have the same streams as singles do. I’m showing another part of la doble p to people.”
